Very variable stay at this hotel. On arrival the location is lovely with the steam train outside and the hallway was welcoming but immediately we were told that the package we booked through booking.com was not all it appered.
The room was very shabby - creaky bed, horrible view, dirty bathroom, lightbulb out and kettle in the wardrobe (!) to name but a few, oh and the extractor vent from the kitchen just outside the window. We did ask to be put in another room but that didnt seem any better (room 107?), very chintzy. To top it all we found broken glass under the radiator which was very close to the bed in the tiny room. When we complained to the manager he was fair - he offered us a free night but as we had paid in advance, he then altered it to us not having to pay for any extras like drinks and coffees, which was aprreciated given the circumstances.
On the plus side - there are 2 Australian waitresses who are cheery and the maitre d does try but generally the staff could be a bit more enthusiastic and cheerful.
The food is nowhere near the standard it claims to be on the website.
The room is greatly in need of updating, and a thorough clean!
