“Excellent customer service but hotel in need of upgrade”

Three of my colleagues and I stayed at The Spa Hotel when we were in the area for work.

Saltburn is a lovely small town and the hotel is in a good location and has great views from the front of the sea.

My room was suitable for what we needed but other colleagues had problems with drafts and uncomfortable mattresses. My room was cleaned and I had fresh towels everyday. The breakfast was adequate.

As I was there on business it would have been great to use the wi-fi but unfortunately it didn't work in my room.

The staff were all incredibly helpful and pleasant with all additional requests fulfilled effeciently.

For business purposes the hotel was fine but I can't imagine staying there for leisure purposes.

“Not going back, and would not recommend”

To say my wife and I were dissapointed is an understatement.

We arrived and was greeted by a friendly member of staff, we were shown to our room and thanked the staff member. Once the we put our bags down and looked about we found the net curtains were moving from the draft from the patio doors, so we closed the curtains and put the additional heater on which was in the room as it was freezing. Then we decided to watch some television on the old style tv, all one of the channels worked as the signal was poor. So we contacted reception and they were happy to move us, they moved us to another room up stairs which was slightly warmer but not all that.
On the plus side the bedding was white and clean, but the quilt was more like a quilted throw rather than a winter duvet.
The bathroom was very old and dated with chips in the enamel bath, the silicone around the bath was about an inch thick and look like layer upon layer had been applied. There was not even a toilet roll holder, the toilet roll was just on the cistern. The shower head was about a inch square with very little water pressure. the toilet was noisy to flush, and the toilet from next door was louder still.
The evening meal we had was nothing special but edible, we found out the chef was off ill and the 17 year old apprentice was trying to deal with the meals.
The spread for breakfast was three storage containers of cereal with no bowls, a jug of orange and milk. we sat for 10 minutes without anybody coming to see us, so in the end we decided to leave and go without and check out. We went to the reception desk and waited for a member of staff, that never turned up, so we left the keys on the desk and departed.
We booked this hotel as we had a coupon so it only cost us £35 for B&B and a bottle of wine, I assume this type of offer is to attract people so the they get return business, in our case this will not be happening. In fact the opposite even for £35 I struggle to see even if this was value for money.

“No sleep”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 January 2012

Just came away from spa hotel. firstly there was a mix up with rooms. we were Down to go into a dbl not a family room. then we were shown till our room in silence yet seen others being informed of breakfast times etc.

Room was bright with sea views. newly painted. lamp didn't work and neither did radiator. one window was unable to open and the other wouldn't lock and could push open. not great with kids! Sink had a huge crack which went right through. didn't dare use. tv was great with all channels and dvd.

Windows had thin roller blinds and from approx 6pm lights from outside of hotel light up the room. these remained on til after 2am - i know this as i was constantly waking up. there was no darkness in the room. one bed is right under window too so children could not sleep which caused upset. Very unimpressed. i raised this issue when leaving and was asked why i didn't call down.....we didn't have a phone!!!

I was then told 'oh right' and that was the end of it! In my opinion this wasn't dealt with.

breakfast was great other than there was no cheese or ham as stated. toast was hot and breakfasts also. juice was cold and constantly refilled.

would like to say we would stay again but after no sleep and not an ounce of apology or even understanding i doubt we will. Such a shame.

“Disappointing!!”

Pleased when we booked in. Quite quick but.... Shown to our room, Curtains hanging off track. Couldn't see out unless I stood on coffee table. Other window done in art deco but peeling off. Lights not working etc. Dinner was good, but service slow. Decent nights sleep, shower very temperamental.... very cheap fittings! Breakfast a little mean and there was no butter. In fact there was no marg or butter! They had run out!?!.
Booked out to find a really snotty note on car re my parking. It was written on a bar tab so assumed it was one of staff???? Hope not! we gave it to check in desk with a message for the author. Don't think we shall be back

Room Tip: Refuse bridal suite
