“a really big thank you”

Dear Doreen and Spiros

We just wanted to say a really big thank you for the best holiday we have ever had!

Paxos is a beautiful Island but Glyfada Beach Villas is what made our holiday pure paradise. It is impossible not to completely relax as soon as you arrive. Every single part of the holiday was perfect. Our villa was a great surprise, it was luxurious, very clean and very peaceful. The beach and pool were both breathtakingly beautiful and relaxing. The food served in the taverna for breakfast, lunch and dinner was fantastic! We both are very into our food and really appreciate good quality, tasty dishes and we were very impressed with everything we ate. Both yourselves and your staff, as well as the other guests we met, were also friendly and lovely which made the experience even nicer.

The surrounding areas including the lovely marinas, the caves and Antipaxos were also beautiful and a real pleasure to visit.

We have stayed in many beach resorts all over the world, but we both agree that Glyfada Beach Villas is by far the best place we have had the pleasure of staying. We would like to wish you both well and hope to return again one day.

Kindest Regards

Anna & Michael

Don't go to Glyfada (or Paxos, come to that) if you want a glitzy, flashy, all-inclusive package holiday. Go to Glyfada if you want a week of total peace, relaxation and good food and really good value for money. Paxos is a stunningly beautiful island which has remained largely unspoilt because of a lack of water (meaning that it cannot support large tourist complexes) and because you can't fly there. Glyfada surely has one of the most striking vantage points on the island and has amazing views out to sea from both of its swimming pools. You have to be prepared to walk up and down quite steep hills to get from most villas to the pools, bar and restaurant, and also to be able to explore much of the island on foot (Paxos is hilly). You can hire boats from Loggos at around 35 euros/day and explore some of the more remote beaches and the smaller nearby island of Antipaxos. Breakfast and lunch is included in the price of your villa - both are substantial - and dinner is served on some evenings by the pool. On the evenings when dinner isn't served, Spiros will usually take guests to and from Loggos or Lakka in the minibus. Spiros, Doreen and all the staff are extremely friendly and helpful. The reviewer who wrote comments about not flushing loo roll down the toilet and the fairly basic nature of the villas clearly had no understanding of Paxos as an island. It is a peaceful haven of a place. Mykonos it is not.

“Lovely place - not for young families though!”

This place is very beautiful, scenery and views lovely, gorgeous white pepple beach with turquoise sea 2 min walk from the resort. The resort is very pretty and the pools are lovely and clean, as is the resort. The resort is close to the most lovely villages, perfect for eating out...we ahd some amazing meals in the towns every night. It is quite remote, so would definately recommend hiring a car so that you can venture out as buses and taxis are non-existent. If walking to the nearest towns you would have to be pretty fit as it is winding hills and would take good 20 mins if not longer. Although it is definately worth the trip. Hiring a car is good and you have never done it before don't worry the roads are so quiet you would be lucky to pass another car on your journey!

Only downside is that it is not child friendly at all i.e young children and toddlers. Firstly the villas and apartments have stone floor throughout, which is fine normally but for young children falling over all the time not so good, especially if they climb on the beds and chairs. There was a big glass coffee table in our villa, we had to constantly watch our children, as running into it at any point and smashing the whole thing was a great possibility. The plumbing and electrics in the villa was dodgy to say the least. When trying to bath my little ones in the shower they kept getting electric shocks which made them cry...apparantly the hot water switch had to be turned off when bathing, which stopped the electric shocks...although this did not make a lot of difference if you ask me. When I was washing clothes in the kitchen sink, I would get continous electric shocks!
Outside the villas and apartments most places have a veranda....lovely if you are a middle aged couple, but with small children a death trap. The veranda did not have enclosed fence around it, so there was a 2-3 foot drop straight over the edge onto large rocks and mud....we could therefore not let our children outside at all unless we were standing over them the whole time. The only other downside was the hill. The resort is on a hill, so walking down to breakfast and the pool, down a really steep rocky hill with a pushchair wa a nightmare. If you are fit and like walking then great....I would not reccommend this for elderly, unfit and younf families..as going back up the hill from breakfast and lunch was a trek.
Overall this is a lovely place, I would reccomend this to couples wanting a quiet break who love eating out at different restaurants and visiting different beaches. Would not reccoemend to the elderly due to the steep hill and not to young families as it is an accident waiting to happen. Very picturesque though, gorgeous views, beach and pretty resort. If you are old and want to go, you could ask for a room that is at the bottom of the hill, so you don't have too far to walk for breakfast.

“Interesting to see the contrast in reviews”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 June 2010

Just returned from a week at glyfada beach villas with my girlfriend. We both had a great time, owed in no small part to GBV. A beautiful setting, simple but tasteful accommodation, good food, helpful staff, all for less that £300 each including breakfast and lunch. We encountered none of the problems the negative reviews mentioned, although I do agree the bannister in the mezzanine sleeping area is too low - not good for anyone unsteady on their feet.

It is therefore interesting to see how awful some experiences have been. Spiros and Doreen, were nothing but polite, helpful and easy going. It seems shocking that they could be rude to someone suffering from MS, perhaps that review has caused them to reevaluate their attitude. I would say, however, that one should always look for clues in the reviews as to the writer's attitude. I think saying "I am english and I believe in putting toilet paper down the toilet and not in the bin" seems a bit narrow minded. Paxos is a small island, and rural charm tends to go hand in hand with a slightly more basic infrastructure, which in my opinion should be respected.

So in my experience (and also the friend who first recommended it), a great place to do nothing.

We were delayed due to industrial action in Greece which resulted in us arriving at GBV late at night.During our trip there we all thought "what the hell have we let ourselves in for here?" As driving to the villa, steep roads and a desolate location made everyone apprehensive as to what course our holiday would take.We found the accomodation was fairly basic, but comfortable. After a much needed nights sleep we awoke to the most fantastic views of the Ionion sea.Over the course of the week,Spiros,Doreen (and little Dimitrios),Alexandra x 2 & James, looked after us really well. The free minibus service offered was much appreciated and the meals on site were very good. So following our experience of GBV,& Paxos in general,I would thoroughly recommend it.Thanks to everyone at GBV from the Wilson/Hancox/Larrington group.
