“Boutique Hotel in skiathos”

Pleasantly surprised, booked superior room as i was there for a week for a friends wedding. Did ask for a room not facing the pool as i dreaded lots of screaming children but the superior rooms all faced the pool, but there was little noise and only two children (which is good). small balcony but pleasant enough to sit after a few drinks in the evening, on our first night we were given a free drink in the hotel bar which was very welcoming. Large room, think it was a family room as there was two extra beds which came in handy for me as i am able to pack every belonging i own when going on holiday. Bed was comfy, shower was very powerful just what you need to wake you up, there is a black out panel on the balcony doors, dont do what my partner and I did and only discover this on the penultimate night. Did not book breakfast but the pleasant, helpful reception staff informed me it was in the price. The food was the usual buffet affair, available until 10.30 which is a little early for us, but coffee was good and you could take it back to your room if desired. Staff didnt really abide by the 'do not disturb' sign as witnessed when having coffee and seeing someone clean our balcony (which a little pet hate of mine). I felt sorry for the one woman who appeared to do everything and didnt have a day off the whole 7 days we stayed. It took a lot of courage to enter the clean pool as it was "freezing" but you earned a sense of achievement when you finally got in. The hotel was in an excellent location and although you were close to the more 'tacky' bars and main street when you entered the courtyard and pool area it was a haven of calm and very pretty at night. Easy walking distance through the back streets to the harbor and beautiful restaurants and quieter bars. The best bit was stroking all the stray kittens which my partner didnt allow me to take back to the hotel (spoil sport). If i was going to return i would book this hotel again.

Room Tip: Book a room on a high floor, felt sorry for the people on the ground floor at the back of reception.

“Excellent hotel in the center of Skiathos town.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 October 2011

The room (”superior room”)was clean and had comfortable beds.

The balcony was big enough with a 2-seat sofa, small table and 2 chairs. There was also a hanger for bath towels and bathingsuits on the balcony. The balcony was towards the pool area as expected.

The bathroom was also very clean. It had a bathtub. I would rather have had a shower instead, but it worked out OK with the bathtub as well.

You get slippers but no bathrobe.

The breakfast was excellent with coffee, tea, lemonade, fried eggs, bacon, yoghurt, fruit, bread and cakes of various kind.

The pool is big enough for a swim (approx 16x4m), but it’s not heated. When I was there the water temperature was around 22 degrees. It was warmer in the sea.

You get big pool and bath towels in the reception.

The location is excellent in the middle of the town. You can easily walk to all of the restaurants in town.

It’s about 5-10 minutes walk to the bus station. There you can take the bus to the beaches on
the southern coast of the island. There are 23 of them. To get to the beaches on the north side of the island you have to go by boat or by scooter.

“Bourtzi boutique...?”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 October 2011 via mobile

We've just returned from a 2 week stay at the Bourtzi Boutique Hotel in Skiathos Town. Having read the previous reviews this was a fundamental reason for us in choosing this hotel. There are real pros and cons to this hotel, the best points being the excellent location within the town. This hotel is located at the top of Papadiamantis Street in town which is the main street leading down to the harbourside and the large numbers of restaurants/bars. You are also just 5-10mins walk away from where the ferries and flying dolphin catamaran leaves for Skopelos and the Greek mainland. The hotel itself is as the name suggests a 'boutique' hotel which is as far away from traditional Greece as you can imagine. The room we were given faced the street at the front of the hotel and looked a little tired compared to the pictures I have seen of the other rooms. The A/C was efficient however the fancy shower unit with pressure sprays just seemed to flood the bathroom and all of your contents..! The bathroom door was glass and had gaps at the top and bottom which doesn't allow for much privacy or for keeping bathroom odours within the bathroom rather than the bedroom... The room did come with a free safe, however the safe wasn't actually secured to the wall and could have been picked up and removed without much effort. For a 4 star hotel, it would be nice to see a kettle with tea and coffee, maybe an information guide for all rooms about the hotel, the town, transport etc.... The family that run the hotel are efficient but apart from Dimitris and the bar staff in the Lounge Bar I wouldn't say overly friendly or welcoming as I have experienced in Greek holidays previously. It had a sense of end of season feel about it and obviously some front of house staff had been laid off after the 2 main seasonal months of July & August as the family seemed to work long hours at the hotel. The breakfast was the most disappointing aspect of the hotel. A single person seemed to be responsible for the breakfast service, often her face told a picture and I wouldn't say that she was an ideal individual for promoting customer service or engaging with the hotel residents. I couldn't understand Why the hotel doesn't just buy a toaster and let guests do their own thing rather than having to request toast from the single person everytime..? The hotel has a swimming pool which doesn't appear to get much sun during the day so I would suggest using the many excellent beaches on Skiathos instead. The buses which run frequently go from the harbour area or north of the hotel at bus stop 4 as it heads west towards Koukounaries. This hotel is quite expensive and I'm not sure that we would go back next time. There are other choices in the town as you will see on trip advisor. I liked the island and also spent some time in Skopelos which had accessible beaches which were mainly pebbly but more dramatic scenery on the roads across the island. I'd suggest splitting your break between Skiathos and Skopelos. We did return from Skopelos to find a small and insignificant bottle opener missing from our room. I did ask the management team to investigate but heard nothing back...might be small but still made us think about why it went missing? An average hotel in my mind which needs to focus on continuous customer service rather than living off of previous reviews from Trip Advisor. With the challenges facing Greek hoteliers it's even more important to engage with all guests and be dynamic in the provision of services certainly when the hotel bases itself on the concept of boutique rather than traditional Greek. Best of luck to the family as the hotel has some good points but does appear to rest on it's laurels.

“Very good hotel, the place to stay!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 September 2011

We had the pleasure of staying at the Bourtzi in september 2011, just after the high season, the best time to visit Skiathos by the way.

Our room was nr 601, at the far end of the pool, first floor. The room is big and has a spacious balcony overlooking the pool. The pool is no problem as not too many people use it during the afternoon and evening. The floor is made of white marble which is pleasant. The beds are fine, brand is cocomat as is all the linnen and towels which are all replaced daily.

The airconditioning worked well, not too cold not to warm and very quiet. The design of the room and of the whole hotel is very nice indeed and makes it special. On the whole the hotel is very well maintained but they should keep an eye out for some very small flaws which took our attention because the rest was so good. In de spacious bathroom the shower fix on the wall was a bit loose, when turning it on, the shower shot to the ceiling making everything wet. Also the towel rack on the wall was loose. Two really minor things which we didn’t even mention to the manager…..I know, I know we should have… Housekeeping did a really good job, we did not see anything to comment on, very good indeed. So the room was perfect.

The breakfast was also fine, coffee tea, some danish, eggs, bacon, yoghurt, toast, fresh fruit a simple but fine hotel breakfast which could be had by the pool, which made it relaxing.

The pool was fine but it doesn’t have sun all day. It is well maintained and clean. The hotel has a cocktail bar which also does room service to your room. The lady at the bar was very attentive, she did a really good job. Speaking of this actually all the staff did a really good job.

If you are going to Skiathos and you are looking for a nice hotel, this is the place to be. The hotel is in Skiatos town which is very convenient as this is where all the restaurants are, where you can take boats to different beaches, where you can rent a car, where you always have a seat on the bus (stop 0) and so on.
