“Philosophy, hilarity and far too many cocktails!”

Where to begin with this trip?! I suppose it will have to be with Maria. I have been to St John's Villas twice before and just loved the solitude and privacy of a villa and not having to deal with people...that is all I am after in a holiday. However, this time, I met Maria. I can't sum up Maria in any way, shape or form. Just go and meet her and see what service is meant to be, actually service is the wrong word when it comes to St John's. They aren't people serving you, they are your friends and family. You have known them a lifetime without knowing them at all. Maria was so helpful with food, drinks and places to go that I saw a side to Tsilivi I have never seen before, eventhough, I must have visited Zakynthos at least 8 times.

Most nights I would have a wonderful meal at Pergola (a limited menu in some respects, but, everything on it was exceptionally cooked by the chef, Julia) play a few games of pool, have a deep conversation on language/philosophy etc. with Maria, get a lecture from Maria for having too many cocktails, laugh until my keg of a stomach turned into a six pack and then go to bed. It was one of the greatest routines I have ever been in and I still cry laughing about some of the crazy things Maria and me discussed. Oh and for those that are interested I stayed in Gardenia.

But, let's get on with this review in a slightly more serious way (emphasis on slightly):

* Is it clean? Yes, a regular maid service that do a fantastic job.

* Are the people helpful? I have never met staff more eager to help you have, not only a great stay at the accommodation, but, a fantastic holiday. Wonderful people, who I am happy to call my friends

* Good Location? It is a little walk to Tsilivi, I am not going to lie to you wonderful people. However, it's only a 15 minute amble down and it is pretty pleasant...however going back up the hill is nightmare after a few (well, I say a few...) drinks so I would take full advantage of the fairly priced (but insanely driven) taxis.

* Good Food? Yes, delicious.

* Good Drinks? Oh God Yes!!! Maria makes special ones that are flavours that you will never have tasted and will never be able to replicate...regardless of how much Bols and spirits you may buy at home. :( You are probably reading this going "They aren't that good, don't be lying to me Simon!"...if you don't believe me go (even if just for a week) and ask Maria nicely whether you could have a special cocktail like the ones you made for Simon when he stayed. Your life with be forever changed!

I also have to mention Mavra (greek Sandra Bullock) from Reception...please go talk to Mavra from the snack bar as she is lovely and no one goes down to the snack bar as they are having such an incredible time in the Pergola restaurant! Please she is so lovely and is just a wonderful person!

One of the greatest holidays I have ever been on and you will never meet such wonderful people in your life. Not only the staff but the other people living around us were just delightful to spend time with.

Just go here and love it!

Hope you have a lovely holiday here and remember to tell people about it. :)

Simon

“Fantastic villas in a beautiful setting”

This was our first holiday in a villa and we were not disappointed. You have the luxury of a private villa with the benefit of resort facilitates such as housekeeping, gym, spa, restaurant, mini shop and even room service if you want it. The pool is just the right size and the villa looked exactly as it did in the brochure. Maria in the bar/restaurant was always welcoming and friendly. Beautiful weather and fantastic views. Would recommend and go again.

“happy family”

We stayed at St Johns for 2 weeks end of August, beginning of September. Holiday was perfect thanks to the wonderful staff and facilities. Maria, what can I say, is the perfect host who cannot do enough to make your stay extra special. Her brilliant cocktails and friendly chat ensured that we made a nightly visit to the pergola restaurant. I could not forget to mention Julia and her lovely meals (especially the rabbit stew that we still talk about). Mavra is a lovely girl who works downstairs, and is extremely friendly and helpful. This is our third visit to St Johns Villas and certainly the best. The restaurant is a very welcome addition to a lovely complex, but Maria is priceless and we will be back to enjoy her company (and her cocktails) next year (we hope).

“Cherry Tree”

Stayed at St. Johns for 2 weeks end of August 2011. We had a fantastic time and loved the complex. Trudy and the other staff were very welcoming and helpful and Maria in the restaurant was wonderful. My husband and I went with our 2 daughters (21 and 17) the younger one has Down syndrome and is a coeliac, Maria was exceptional when helping with foods for her. On arriving at Zante my suitcase did not so I was upset but everyone at St. Johns was lovely, thankfully suitcase arrived 2 days later. We could not understand some of the negative comments on this site and were a little concerned before we went, however the villa did not disappoint. I agree the sofas are not as comfortable at home but we rarely used them for long as we were out and about. I would recomend St. Johns Villas to anyone and would love to go back.

“Peaceful and far enough away from Tsilivi”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 September 2011

A peaceful and spic and span location and although the villas are all near each other, the positioning of the balconies ensure privacy. Avoid the villas closest to the Pergoda restaurant as they are not so private. The local chavvie town of Tsilivi is a 10 minute walk downhill but it is too steep for a walk back, so grab a taxi for 5 euros. Keep off the main drag and search out some lovely tavernas on the outskirts and nearer the beach areas. St John's calls itself a spa but I think that's rather too grand a description and far fetched. We didn't use the indoor hot tub or steam room, far too hot for that. Nor did we use the beauty facilities. The food is limited at the Pergoda but it's fine if you want a chilled evening, no fuss and the waitress is lovely. We would stay there again if all we wanted was a decent villa and a very chilled holiday for two.

Room Tip: The Cherry Tree is a corner plot so you get a bit more garden. I think the further back you go in th...
