We visited Pontypool to trace my wife's relatives.
We selected Ty Shon Jacob Farm to stay at because it is out in the countryside but still near to Pontypool, and because it's reviews were very good.
The Farm is at the end of a rough track; it's important to follow the owners instructions on how to get there, and not a GPS because of a very steep hill on the GPS route. Anyway following the instructions it is well sign posted and easy to find.
When we got there, the views were magnificent in all directions. Our room, No1, was an enormous L shaped room about 30 ft by 20 ft. It had a huge window along one wall that led onto a large kind of patio/balcony. There was an old fasioned stove (as well as normal central heating) and lots of black beams. There were two beds with beautiful covers; one a giagantic double and the other a very large single. There were also arm chairs and a table. The enormous bathroom was a masterpiece of tiling, with a hugh bath and a separate unenclosed shower!
The elegantly cooked breakfast was served in a correspondingly large and well furnished dining room with lots of beams and china on display. The generously sized tables were better laid out than in a 5* hotel!
It's a bit hard to find, but once you get there, the owners, the room, the surroundings and the atmosphere of the place made me feel at home right away.
Not to mention the view from the patio, which is quite breathtaking.
This is definitely the place to stay if you are in the area.
I look forward to staying there again:)
What a memorable and wonderful experience!
Having a chance to stay there for the night for the court hearing on 18th March 2011, I must admit that this place is awesome. The owners, Graham (Welsh) and Anita (Swedish) are incredibly welcoming, helpful, informative, friendly, and down-to-earth. The suite comes with one double bed, twin bed, lounge, bureau, fireplace, terrace, and huge bathroom with all necessary facilities equipped. The dinner and breakfast there were freshly prepared and passionatedly cooked. The room only costs £30 per night per person. What a bargain!
At first glance, Ty Shon Jacob Farm is located on top of the hill (approx 1200' above the sea level), surrounded by a country farm with horses, utterly friendly doggies and cats. Internally, this B&B is mainly decorated in the traditional Welsh style which is sweet, quirky, yet elegant.
If you are planning to have a week or even a few nights away from the chaos of the metropolian city or keen on having once-in-a-lifetime experience, look no further, give yourself a chance to stay at this notable and one-of-a-kind B&B.
Three large, clean well-equiped rooms. The owners are friendly and very helpful. An excellent breakfast. If the weather's good, there are wonderful views. It's quite a long walk into Pontypool.
