One of the newer Travelodges, it is still in very good condition and the staff seem keen to keep it that way. It is the only, and I mean ONLY, time I have ever had a cleaner hoover the room in the middle of a two day or longer stay in a Travelodge. The room was fully serviced rather than the bare essentials, and the staff all round are to be congratulated for their efforts.
The designer of the hotel, however, needs to rethink their career. Situated within touching distance of a dual carriageway, there was road noise and lots of it. It was dulled by the good fitting windows but not sufficiently to allow decent sleep.
The room itself was also lacking thought. Everything worked, but it was drab to the point of feeling like I was locked in a government institution of some kind. All white walls, white ceiling, white blind over the white window, and white sheets, pillows, and towels were contrasted by dull grey doors. All the furniture being screwed down and then waking up one morning to what sounded like a jailer rattling keys made me wonder what crimes I had committed.
The bathroom was surprisingly clean for a Travelodge, the shower head had no stray spurts, and everything came out as hot and as cold as was required. It was all just a bit cramped. The whole room was though. Classed as a double room, it had only one chair and little space for clothing storage. There were no shelves or drawers for storage, and only six hangers on the smallest of rails. I know several independent hotels that would have classed the room as a single.
