“Cold be worse - but just barely”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 June 2010

I had to spend the night at this hotel due to a late arrival from Germany on a business trip in may. My choice was to either drive all night or to sleep over at Danhotel - I chose the latter.
In retrospect I somewhat regret that I did not spend the night on the road.

Danhotel is staffed by a very nice and helpful couple, therefore it feels a little bit bad to give this hotel such a lousy rating. Nevertheless this is one of the most worn out hotels I have stayed in.
It can´t possibly have been modified the last twenty years! Actually entering Danhotel is a bit like entering 1985 again.

The corridors are smelly and the elevator makes so much noise that you are bound to wake up when it starts - if you ever manage to find your sleep.

The room is so badly decorated that it gives me nightmares and flash backs of the worst styles of the eighties. The sofa smelled bad and it - could it be true? - actually reminded me of the smell of urine!

In the bathroom the tub had dirt staines all over it and the roof paint was holding on for dear life. There was a lot of spider webs too.

The price for all of this was about 120 euros. Outrageous! I have stayed in suites in asia for the same price.

Breakfast was good though, I can´t take that away from them.

If you absolutely have to sleep in a bed in this area, then stay at this hotel. It is the only hotel in this village. You should offer no more than half the price of what they are asking though.

Personally I found more comfort in my car, and if I ever pass through Rodby again I will spend the night on the road.

“What a nice surprise in Rodby!”

We needed a hotel close to the Ferry to Puttgarden after holidaying in Sweden. WE now had a little baby, so couldn't drive the whole way in one day anymore.

There is only one hotel in Rodby, and from the outside, we didn't hope for much as it loked so dated. At first their machine wouldn't take either of our debit cards, so we had to go the bank to get money out -don'y know why that happened.

The staff were lovely, and were very helpful with our little boy. The room was LOVELY, really spacious, with a great big bed and sofas. Only german TV but we didn't watch it anyway.

Better than anything was the food in the restaurant, it was out of this world! Unbelievable- really lovelt seafood and some great steak. They also had veggie food. They had a high chair for our little son too. The breakfast was a great banquet of fresh fruit, cheeses, wonderful bread, just wonderful.

This hotel is well worth either stopping before getting on the ferry and catching the ferry the next morning, or going the other way, travelling on the ferry and booking into the hotel, rather than on Puttgarden - as the hotels around their aren't great.

  • Liked — Good value, the food, the room, the bed and we even had our 2 dogs with us!
  • Disliked — the bathroom was a bit old, but clean
  • Tips/Secrets — Take Danish cash with you, eat in the restaurant
