We stayed here because the Teddy bear Hotel was full. The good things first: the location can't be beat - it is just past the entrance to the Baguosi and on the bus route up the mountain. 10 mins walk to Bagousi town where there are tons of restaurants. Bus station itself is 10 mins walk away. The grounds are nice, big lake, rope bridge across it, peacocks roaming the gardens (my 3 year old liked them). Room was large - they didn't have a king sized bed so we had twin beds instead - and it came with a tv (only Chinese channels), hot/cold water dispenser and a couch and coffee table near the window which was nice except that the couch was threadbare and worn and has definitely seen better days. The floor was not carpeted which made it quite chilly to walk on but they provide bathroom slippers.
The cons: the hotel felt deserted and the whole time we were there we hardly saw anyone else which made it rather creepy. Reception was always quiet and when we went for breakfast (before 9am) we were the only people there. (breakfast is served in the adjoining building, quite a trek from the main building and only offers chinese options - congee and vegetables, chinese buns and a fried egg). They had condoms and other paraphernalia for sale in the bathrooms which made me wonder what kind of customers they normally deal with. Also the manager cornered us and was very eager for us to avail ourselves of the massage services which he said could be arranged in room. However later when my husband enquired about them, he was taken to another building and down some stairs to a red lit corridor and asked to wait in an empty room for the masseur who appeared to be engaged elsewhere. The manager also asked him if he wanted a "pretty girl" whereupon he fled. I suppose this may be normal "services" in a Chinese hotel but we were a family with a young child and the manager knew this.
