I had booked Surana Palace based on reviews on Trip Advisor. I rely on Tip Avisor reviews for stays in places I have not visited and have been always rewarded with a great stay. Unfortunately for this time I was in for a shocker.

I read through all reviews and assumed that the place had improved since the 2008 “Palace? No” & 2009 review “Worst” I regret that I did not heed the comments on these reviews.

First and foremost the Manager is a cheat. I booked through Make My trip and booked the best room possible the (Royal Executive Ac Room @ Rs1600.00 per day)

When I reached the hotel and asked for my room. My luggage was moved to room 108 on the ground floor adjoining the restaurant kitchen. It’s a dingy stinking room and would compete with a dark prison cell. If ever there was a dirty bathroom competition, the bathroom can compete with public toilets and the public toilet would win in hygiene. I could hear the cooks chopping in the kitchen. I complained that this is not what was shown to me on the portal. I was grudgingly moved to room 204 which is the one shown as a deluxe room on the travel portal. This was better than the cell. I asked for the Royal Executive Ac Room and was stated that this is it. By the way the image shown of this room is for the deluxe room. Take it or leave it. I had to take it as I had already paid and by the behavior of staff and manager it was clear that I would have to go through the travel portal for a refund. Now I have booked through this portal a number of times and their service is good. I think even they are unaware of the doings of this hotel.

The hotel was made in 1972 and is yet to be renovated. The sofas are stained, the furniture rickety. Light bulbs require changing half of them don’t work. I had to request a change of bulb for the bathroom.

The house keeping was frank enough to state that the bed linen is washed fortnightly and would not be changed unless there were visible stains. The blankets as washed monthly. The reason being guests bring their own! The bathroom was cleaned on request and a tip. The cleaner stated that the bathroom was clean. My wife supervised and then we realized the commode was blue and not brown.

We requested for a late check out on the last day as our transport was scheduled for 1600 hours and the hotel check out is 0900. I also requested them to charge me 50% of the room charges for the extra hours. The manager bluntly refused and we had to wait at the lobby for the entire day. I have traveled and stayed in many hotels both budget and luxury and never has a request for late check out been denied. Most hotels wven offer a complimentary extra day. The hotel was not booked and the room remained empty for the entire day but was not commissioned to us.

All in all it was terrible. I did not click a single phoogrpah here as I was ashamed of where I was staying.
