“Beautiful setting and personalized attention”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 February 2012

Cocobay is a true find; scenic, beautifully maintained, quiet and fabulous personalized service. The pool is new and gorgeous, the wood work on the rooms are detailed and exquisite. The property sits right on the lake and is away from the tourist areas and roads so it is quiet and tranquil. The food is superb. Menon the manager delights in cooking and supervises the kitchen and menu brilliantly. He also makes it a point to meet each and every guest and check in with them on a regular basis to make sure that everything is meeting your expectations. Our son got sick on the car ride to Kumarakom and the staff of the hotel tended to him and even changed the bedding at midnight. I highly recommend Cocobay!

“Very peaceful and calm”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 February 2012

Very good location and very peaceful. Situated right beside backwater and therefore gives you a very good chance to spend hours talking to your loved ones. Swimming pool with depth 5 feet is cool one. Staff behavior is very good. Food quality is excellent with various offerings. Good to spend one full day but if you want to spend more than one day then you need to look at some other options.

Room Tip: All rooms are almost same, therefore leave the room choice.

“"Peaceful and Tranquil on the Lake"”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 January 2012

We arrived by a little rowboat that transported us on the canal to the resort which was fun!!
Upon arrival we were greated warmly with a cold drink and a flower garland. Since we arrived quite early in the day before other guests, we were given the best located room in their bungalow type buildings which was quite a spacious corner room right beside the Lake. Right outside of our room was lawn furniture where we could sit comfortably each evening with a nice cold drink to watch the beautiful sunsets. It was very tranquil and the quietest places we have been to on our two months vacation in India. The grounds of the resort are beautifully landscaped with a lovely inviting pool between the two bungalows. The room had a TV, coffee maker and minibar fridge which came in very handy for storing cold drinks. The bathroom was also spacious with a good size shower and always hot water. There was also a Newspaper for anyone which arrived in the morning available in the Lobby.

We were always the first to arrive for the breakfast buffet so there was a good variety of Indian food as well as eggs cooked to preference. I enjoyed the freshly made Dosa with coconut chutney and the Masala omelette. We would have our dinner late afternoon since we did not wish to wait for the evening buffet which is generally served too late for us.
Everything could have been perfect except for one annoying thing!! The service was very slow for the afternoon meal which was our dinner. We could handle that if the entire meal arrived at the same time. We had ordered 2 parathas to eat with a curry dish. None came, so we asked for them again. It took a while before we got one but not the other one. We then asked again. This time the paratha came long after our meal was completed. This was annoying! The staff is too laid back and not too professional. The portions of the meals were small, overpriced and not very good value.
The breakfast buffet was definitely the better meal.
Our first evening after we had retired to bed early, we received a phone call from the ( head waiter or manager of the restaurant staff) who is a man from Tamil Nadu, would we come for dinner. We told him that we had dined in the afternoon and do not require dinner.
The next afternoon while having our meal we had told him that we do not eat late. The same evening he called our room around 9:00pm and we were again resting in bed to ask us to come for the dinner buffet. It did not matter how often we told him that we would not have dinner he called us every evening of our four night stay. I can see that at times they would not have many guest in the resort and that they were trying to get as many people to eat the buffet food but still if you are not hungry there is nothing we could do to help them out.
The morning we were leaving he was following us around the resort looking for a tip. We had paid our bill with a generous tip for all the Staff in their " Tip Box " which was recommended.
He then actually followed us back to our room, knocking on our door and came in to say good-bye once again and still having the feeling that he wanted money. We felt very uncomfortable with this situation and were happy to leave at that point. If anyone deserves a special reward it is the staff that are actually working hard and being helpful and not someone who walks around doing nothing except to irritate the guests. I am sure that our situation was not an isolated case and that he does this to other guests.
All in all we did have a great time here, did a lot of walking to villages along the canal, met interesting people and took a very good tour with a very friendly "tuc tuc" driver who took us to places we would ordinarily not have had the pleasure of seeing.
I would definitely recommend this resort for anyone wishing a quiet and peaceful holiday. We met a few honeymooners who just loved it here.

Room Tip: The best room was No. 20 on the far corner next to the Lake.

“Excellent View..good food.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 January 2012

We stayed at Cocobay resort in the mnth of june. Cocobay is a small resort with about 15 suites. The best part about the resort is tht its bang on the lake.
We drove from Thekaddy to Kumarkom ,once we reached Cocobay resort we were very upset as all we cud see was a badly managed concrete sales office..we were actually thinking how cud v make such a mistake by booking this place especially after excellent Munnar & Thekaddy trips.
Nevertheless we were taken to the resort by a small tarditional village boat ( yes the resort cnt be reached by road). Once we reached inside we were relieved seeing the lake and the place.
Rooms were not extraordinary ,the worst part of the room was that it was not facing the lake.
Food was alacarte as the occupancy was not high...food is worth mentioning..the chef did a wonderful job of preparing mouthwatering cuisine.
General amenities just has a swimming pool( decent size) & also a kids pool. I must say the location of swimming pool is excellent.
One more area of improvement could be addition of more inhouse activities likes games etc as there is nothing much to do after sunset.
To sum it this place is value for money place with excellent view of the lake...sunsets are wonderful.

“Looks lovely but not great if you need to eat!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 January 2012

After driving to a car park at the end of a long narrow lane, we glided along on a punt and caught a first glimpse of the shimmering lake. We stepped through a lovely gate to be welcomed with garlands of flowers and our first slight of the full glory of the lake and the delightful grounds of the resort. Rooms were large and comfortable with good aircon and fans. Everything was great except the restaurant, we stayed 3 nights and every time our order was messed up, they didn't have half the menu and the food was stone cold. What should be a pleasure became a frustrating experience and we longed to make an escape for a decent meal but there was nowhere to go. It was the poorest food we experienced in a two week tour around Kerala. If you like a drink, bring your own as the hotel does not serve alcohol and has a very limited soft drink selection, there are fridges in the rooms.

Room Tip: room 20 is the nicest position closest to the lake
