We arrived by a little rowboat that transported us on the canal to the resort which was fun!!
Upon arrival we were greated warmly with a cold drink and a flower garland. Since we arrived quite early in the day before other guests, we were given the best located room in their bungalow type buildings which was quite a spacious corner room right beside the Lake. Right outside of our room was lawn furniture where we could sit comfortably each evening with a nice cold drink to watch the beautiful sunsets. It was very tranquil and the quietest places we have been to on our two months vacation in India. The grounds of the resort are beautifully landscaped with a lovely inviting pool between the two bungalows. The room had a TV, coffee maker and minibar fridge which came in very handy for storing cold drinks. The bathroom was also spacious with a good size shower and always hot water. There was also a Newspaper for anyone which arrived in the morning available in the Lobby.
We were always the first to arrive for the breakfast buffet so there was a good variety of Indian food as well as eggs cooked to preference. I enjoyed the freshly made Dosa with coconut chutney and the Masala omelette. We would have our dinner late afternoon since we did not wish to wait for the evening buffet which is generally served too late for us.
Everything could have been perfect except for one annoying thing!! The service was very slow for the afternoon meal which was our dinner. We could handle that if the entire meal arrived at the same time. We had ordered 2 parathas to eat with a curry dish. None came, so we asked for them again. It took a while before we got one but not the other one. We then asked again. This time the paratha came long after our meal was completed. This was annoying! The staff is too laid back and not too professional. The portions of the meals were small, overpriced and not very good value.
The breakfast buffet was definitely the better meal.
Our first evening after we had retired to bed early, we received a phone call from the ( head waiter or manager of the restaurant staff) who is a man from Tamil Nadu, would we come for dinner. We told him that we had dined in the afternoon and do not require dinner.
The next afternoon while having our meal we had told him that we do not eat late. The same evening he called our room around 9:00pm and we were again resting in bed to ask us to come for the dinner buffet. It did not matter how often we told him that we would not have dinner he called us every evening of our four night stay. I can see that at times they would not have many guest in the resort and that they were trying to get as many people to eat the buffet food but still if you are not hungry there is nothing we could do to help them out.
The morning we were leaving he was following us around the resort looking for a tip. We had paid our bill with a generous tip for all the Staff in their " Tip Box " which was recommended.
He then actually followed us back to our room, knocking on our door and came in to say good-bye once again and still having the feeling that he wanted money. We felt very uncomfortable with this situation and were happy to leave at that point. If anyone deserves a special reward it is the staff that are actually working hard and being helpful and not someone who walks around doing nothing except to irritate the guests. I am sure that our situation was not an isolated case and that he does this to other guests.
All in all we did have a great time here, did a lot of walking to villages along the canal, met interesting people and took a very good tour with a very friendly "tuc tuc" driver who took us to places we would ordinarily not have had the pleasure of seeing.
I would definitely recommend this resort for anyone wishing a quiet and peaceful holiday. We met a few honeymooners who just loved it here.
Room Tip: The best room was No. 20 on the far corner next to the Lake.
