My fiance and I stayed at the K5 from 1st - 8th Jan 2012.
Our room was spacious and clean (cleaned every day around mid day) and had a sauna, shower and lots of storage space. There was also a drying cupboard in the room which proved very useful. The sauna takes about 2 hours to heat up, but the hotel staff will turn it on for you if you ask, so it's ready when you get in. We also had a balcony, which saw little use apart from storage for our drinks to keep them cold!
Staff were friendly and always very helpful and, in the main, spoke good English.
pros: Good location, clean and spacious rooms and friendly staff. The hotel also has a number of cross country skis and boots, snow shoes and sleds which you can borrrow for free (didn't see any downhil equipment, but I wasn't looking for it so...) but be warned, they are limited in number and when they're gone, they're gone. There are also free lockers available to store your ski equipment, just ask at reception.
Som of the cross country trails start just outside the hotel, so you don't need to go all the way across to "zero point" to start your days skiing.
cons: food is okay, breakfast is typically continental and the toaster didn't work, but there is a variety of cereals to keep you going. Dinner is adequate if a little disappointing, choice of one soup, two mains (plus one for the kids) and one dessert. My fiance doesn't eat meat but there was usually a fish dish available. If you're strict vegeterian you're going to struggle, There is some limited salad, but it doesn't vary so will quickly become boring.
Attracting the attention of bar staff can prove more challenging than the slopes, so be prepared to wait a while between drinks. Prices in the bar aren't cheap either, be careful what you order or you might get a shock!
You also can't control the temperature in your room. We found it far too stifling on the first night so asked at reception to have it turned down, which they did without any problem. It was still a litle too warm but we chickened out of asking for a second time in case they turned it off altogether!
All in all this is a very good choice of hotel and we would use it again without fear. The food lets down an otherwise excellent service, but there are plenty of eating places in Levi - provided you don't leave it too late before looking.
Without doubt the biggest drawback for us was our fellow guests. Unruly (British) children running around the dining room unchecked and surly Russians wear thin after a bit, but you can't blame the hotel for that can you?
Room Tip: Try to get a 1st floor room. We were on the ground floor and could hear the kids above us running ar...
