“Inghams activity holiday”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 February 2012

one week in this hotel was brilliant. staff very helpful, everywhere nice & warm, clean, & food plentiful with everything on menu you could ask for.Inghams staff were very knowledgable especially our rep Sam.All the trips we wanted to do were available at last minute & were organised down to the last detail. The glass igloo stay was lovely although & although it was too snowy to apprecaite any views, the 'kota' hut with open fire made up for it. the reindeer trip & the husky mushing were really lovely & the snowmobiling was great. we went to the ice hotel & stayed the night & the snowmobile trip to it was exhilarating to say the least. the sleeping arrangements were 'different' but similar to camping at home.
a really exciting holiday, & the hotel very good value for money.

Room Tip: if you dont want to have to walk from another block for your meals choose a room in flying/white rei...

“Excellently Magical Experience”

From the second we got off the plane, I could not have asked for a more perfect experience. I decided to fly with Inghams to the Crazy Reindeer about 2 weeks before leaving on the 22nd of January. I had read a lot of good reviews about the place, so was happy to book to go with one of my friends, who cannot ski.

I can ski, but thought this resort looked especially great to help her learn and to try some new stuff out myself like snowmobiling, huski rides, and other winter wonderland fun. All of these things the reps fully brief you on when they pick you up. I would advise waiting until this point to book as everything was cheaper to do this way.

For experienced skiers/boarders there are only a couple black runs, and quite a few reds. The off piste is superb as is the Snow park with a good amount of jumps and a half pipe to keep everyone entertained. The snow fell everyday keeping snow conditions brilliant, runs were all pisted every night.

The hotel was inexpensive as far as holidays to Levi go, and included half board, a comical painting of reindeers on the wall and a steam room which was brilliant to have in our own room.

The hotel has a sauna (beware they like to go naked, but you don't have to obviously), gym, weights room, many restaurants on site and is a 5 minute walk from everything in town. Including the ski lifts, supermarket, and huge spa. The staff were extremely helpful and the room had wifi even though we were not expecting this. Even if you don't have your laptop you can use the laptop in the reception by the log fire, there is ample room here for you to laze around or relax before dinner.

The food ran from 7-10 breakfast, and 5-8.30 for dinner which worked great for us skiing and going on excursions.

My skis were lost on the first day and the whole Inghams rep team were on the case from the first minute helping me with replacement skis and thermal clothes. It is very very cold in January, minus 20 but only minus 15 at times. As long as you have great clothes to wrap up with then you are good :).

If your thinking about it, just do it, the memories are magnificent!!

p.s. yeah we saw the Northern lights..Wow!!

“Fantastic holiday in Levi”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 January 2012

We have just returned from the most fabulous holiday in Levi where we stayed at the Crazy Reindeer Hotel. I cannot fault the hotel in any way, The food is plentiful but very 'continental' in nature which we loved- but don't expect British junk food from this hotel. I would recommend the gym and sauna facilities if you stay here - they are excellent.
The resort of Levi is beautiful, its clean and magical although you need to know that it's night life is quiet and the drinks are expensive.
The skiing was excellent! The equipment was good quality and the instruction was very good. The pistes are generally navigated by drag lifts, some of which are long and by the end of the week you will know about it in your thighs!
Its very very cold and my advise would be to invest in good gloves, socks and face protection is an absolute must! Even the Fins think it's too cold to ski in (Haha). Balaclavas are a must but buy before you go as gear too is expensive.
We booked our holiday through Inghams and it proved to be worth every penny. However, if I was to be picky I would say that we got no complimentary welcome drink at the welcome meeting, which is a first in my experience. Also, we booked for the reindeer (Kammi) feast which is quite expensive but well worth it - but we were charged for a coffee with the meal which was a bit of a cheek in my opinion. Oh and that's the only real disappointment I had all week, the coffee is pants and I couldn't wait for a nice 'Gold Blend' when I got home. Nevertheless a ten out of ten experience for us!

Room Tip: Some rooms are out of the main building and will involve a walk in the cold weather to get to the ma...

“Wedding”

we booked the crazy reindeer purely for its name as we were getting married in the ice chapel in December 2011. There was 12 of us in our group and I have to say it was by far the most magical experience of our lives for all the group. The hotel was fab, spacious, clean, good food. The staff were friendly, our reps were amazing, very accomodating and helpful. The rooms were clean with the most stunning views and balcony area and the bed was by far the most comfortable bed I have ever slept in. I would definately recommend the hotel to all my friends and I have no doubt that they would have as good a time as we did. Our wedding was booked as part of the Search for Santa package and they even managed to get Santa to come to see us in the restaurant on our wedding night. It was definately the best hotel in Levi, pretty, welcoming, accessable and friendly. Highly recommended, thank you all for making our wedding day extra special and magical.

Room Tip: ask for the rooms facing the ski slope, fab!

“Complete rip off! Not the fairy tale holiday they make out. Avoid.”

We have just returned home from Lapland. We stayed at the Crazy Reindeer in Levi from 26th Dec - 2nd Jan 2012. All I can say is that I am gutted to have wasted my xmas week and new year in this awful hotel.

We booked with Thomson and can honestly say the whole experience was the holiday from hell. The rooms were tiny, dirty, very basic with camp beds. The food was Inedible, sloppy and gross. The only slightly edible thing was cold, greasy chicken nuggets and equally rank chips. We had to eat out in Levi for the week which cost us a fortune. 14 euros for a small glass white wine. 25 euros for a burger and chips. There is no entertainment or even a inviting bar to have a drink in the evening. We were fortunate enough to go out of the complex for a bite to eat but others were skipping dinner as it was so shocking and going to bed at 7pm and not getting up until 11am! That is how awful it was. It was also a pain having to put full thermals and ski wear to walk to the main building for Breakfast, Luch and Dinner. It was a real pain having to dress and undress in these clothes 3/4 times per day.

There was a fire in one of the on site Cabins whilst we were there and had to move to the main building - White Reindeer. The rooms here were even worse and were extremely dated. It felt like we were put back into the war!

The people are very rude and not at all helpful. The hotel itself is very depressing, there is nothing to do. Breakfast is like a prison and people fight over the last bit of bread. They had ran out of Breakfast tea for the whole duration of our trip! The food was cold and they do not replenish so if you dont get up for breakfast until 9am like myself, you will have to literally 'scrap the barrel'.

The holiday was completely mis sold to us by Thomson and the activities included were not worth it. At the time of booking I was told that we would get an action packed week with activites included, however the taster sessions were dispicable and only took up a total of 8 hours out of 8 days. The husky taster session was so cruel, the dogs were not Husky's, more like whippets and one dog was limping and needed urgent medical attention. This was not the proper 'Husky experience' it was more some whippet dogs going around in a circle in a field!

There was no reindeer trip included like were we told at time of booking and if you wanted to do this 'optional' trip then it would cost another 120 euros per person. Many families had a party of 2 adults and 2 kids and therefore would cost nearly 500 euros per trip for just 2 hours. I use the word 'optional' as you will hear this constantly on this trip, as everything is extra. The trip to the Husky farm cost 119 euros per person with Thomson. I asked the rep how much a cab would be to the farm and he told me it would cost around 100 euros each way and that it wasn't worth doing separately. We didn't take his advice and went to the taxi rank where we were told it would be 20 euros each way. We organsied this ourselves and was the best day ever. The entrance fee is just 6 euros each and the ride was 15 euros each. So for the two of us it cost 82 euros, a lot different to the 238 euros Thomson were trying to charge. Please feel free to contact me for the contact details as it is best to call the Farm before you go to book the rides. The proper Husky rides were amazing across the frozen lakes and forest. If you wanted to visit Santa it would cost 500 euros for a family of four and you would have to travel a 6 hour round trip by coach. The Santa that Thomson/First choice provide is shocking and I have seen better at my local shopping centre. A family we met on Holiday told me that Lapland UK was better than this trip, and you get to save your cash. I would not take children younger than 5 on this trip. It is very cold and we noticed a lot of couples with little ones struggling to keep them occupied and warm. First Choice/Thomson do not make this clear at time of booking but will tell you when you get there and is too late.

Lapland is not what it is made out to be. If you are looking for a magical once in a lifetime trip then think again. I did a lot of research before booking this hotel and trip advisor has never let me down before now. We are frequent travellers around the world and can honestly say I have not seen a hotel of this standard even in the poorest of Countries of a 2* standard.

I do question a lot of the previous reviews on here. We met several families and couples from our flight who all felt the same. Infact, once couple hated this trip so much they made their way home after just two days. There were no direct flights so had to fly to Helsinki, then onto Paris and then Gatwick to get home. I think that is saying something. It is very expensive for what it is.

To top the Disastrous holiday off we had a 28 hour delay on the way home. We were taken to a lovely hotel to stay at for one night which was a very different kettle of fish which I will review separately. If you are thinking of going to Lapland I strongly recommend going for 3 nights and not make the same mistake as us, booking 7. You would have more than enough time to do everything there is to do in Lapland. It is only light for 3 hours of the day therefore what you can do is rather limited. I will not be returning to Lapland but for those of you desperate to go, I would strongly advise not going to a hotel, but to have a Log Cabin. Yes they are slightly more expensive but this hotel is not at all magical and you will live to regret it like we and many other guests did. The hotel we were put in for the night when we were delayed was a Lapland Hotel called Olos, but was about 40 mins on from Levi towards the Swedish border. I do believe you can do all the excursions here too as well as it having a great ski slope. This would be a perfect place to stay. It had a gorgeous spacious suite which was very new, hottub with jet jacuzzi, sauna and the most comfortable beds and surround sound with plasma TV and luxury. The bar and food was also nice at this hotel. It was like a breath of fresh air compared to Crazy Reindeer.

My partner skied in the Levi resort which he enjoyed. Levi itself is very small and nothing to do. There is bowling and some restaurants and bars which are very expensive. I am happy to ask any questions about this trip.
