This is the most perfect island to just 'get away'. It was almost empty whilst we were there and this must be due to the bad reports. The beach was clean and we hardly spotted any rubbish lying around. The villa we had was absolute luxury. Yes it does still need some work but the main put-off has to be the very long journey. Everyone can find something to complain about wherever they go - but you have to take some of these with a pinch of salt. We had the most amazing massages in the spa and the choice of treatments was huge. The food in the restaurant was really well cooked, plenty of variety, lots of spice and curry. Not much fresh fruit or veg - but hey they don't actually grow it here and its not Tesco. I am notoriously picky but managed 3 meals each day, with at least 3 desserts every day too. They can cook rice and curry like nowhere else. The chefs were so friendly and every day had a chat with us. Waiters were lovely and their english is so good. We were made to feel very special whilst we were there. Snorkelling is not possible from the island - if you go on the trips you must be a good swimmer as the currents are very strong - I tried it but just couldn't manage as I am a 'holiday swimmer'. If you want to go for a pool holiday, and it's a huge olympic size pool, with beautiful beach walks, fabulous surroundings and absolute serenity - choose Handufushi.
