A month ago, we took the bus Eirean n°441 in Wesport at 3pm, and less than 2 hours later, Padraig, the friendly bus driver who was also our hostess’s husband, stopped just in front of “The Atlantic Breeze B§B” for us. No need to take a ferry and feel sea-sick to go to the biggest island of Ireland. Mary Sweeney was waiting for us at the doorstep and we felt very welcome from the start. She offered us tea and lovely homemade scones in her conservatory with amazing views over the countryside and ocean. The ensuite double bedroom was gorgeous and immaculate, with enough space to do your gym in the morning. Hand soap, hand cream, tissues, shower gel, shampoo: nothing was missing and the towels were changed every day. The modern shower was perfect and the bed was very comfortable. The breakfast was delicious: strawberry yoghurt with all kinds of fruits, milk with a choice of cereals, full Irish cooked breakfast including black and white pudding, toasts with butter, jam and marmalade. This will make you save a lot of money as you won’t need to have lunch after such a gigantic meal! Moreover Mary offers you tea each time you come back from your visits. She advised us pleasant walks along the coastline departing right in front of her B§B. If you turn left, you’ll reach the wonderful Keel beach with its dunes of golden sand. If you turn right, you’ll walk in dramatic landscapes towards a settlement and another beautiful beach in Dooagh. One morning we wanted to call a taxi to be early at the starting point of our unforgettable hike to Achill Head, but it was out of the question for Mary: Padraig drove us where we wanted, described us in details the best path to unable us to see the most of the area, and even showed us where basking sharks could be spotted. They didn’t appear this time but on our way back we spent 2 hours watching dolphins playing in the waves in front of the Dooagh beach. All that luxury for only 70€ per room in high season: stop hesitating and book as soon as possible! You’d better stay at least one week as there are so many beauties to discover there. We started to miss Mary from the moment we sat in the bus and saw her waving at us from her doorstep after having kissed us goodbye. It was so sad to leave that we cannot wait to go back there: this time it will be like visiting our aunt and uncle again!
