“Room with a View”

My husband and I stayed at the Lofos the first week in Oct 11. On arrival we were shown to our studio apartment room 307 right next to the restaurant/bar and poolside. Our first thoughts were to asked to be moved as our terrace would be the thoroughfare of fellow guests. Never make a hasty judgement after a tiring jounrney once settled on the terrace we had time to soak up the views, absolutely unspoiled vista of the sea and Albania straight in front of us. With the Lofos lofty position ( yes the hill is a killer, but worth it!) you are truly spoiled with the fabulous views. Our apartment though small had a large and comfortable double bed with sink, fridge and two ring hob. The only negative was that they provide you with a plastic drainer board for dishes but there is no work surface to put it on and if you are like me and only 5ft 3" you will have no chance of reaching above the sink to the crockery cupboard! All of this is a minor irritation that the views and friendly welcome more than make up for.A beautifully maintained complex with very friendly staff, Lena keeps the apartments spotless and the Greek salads at the pool bar are first class. I would highly recommend this Hotel and will certainly visit again.

“Relaxing, family friendly, lovely location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 October 2011

Just returned from 1 week. Stayed in room 305 which is two rooms from the pool bar on the ground floor - that put me off initially until we saw the room and location. There is enough privacy to not be put off with this location at all. No balcony, just a terrace overlooking the baby pool and larger pool. We travelled with an 18month old and were concerned about the size of the apt because we have always booked a 2 bed apt previously to fit in the cot/bags/paraphernalia but the apt was very large and perfectly adequate. Yes, self catering facilites are basic (2 electric rings, 2 pans, kettle, loads of cutlery/plates etc) but we managed to cook breakfasts and lunches without problems.
Owners Spiros and Pipitsas very child friendly, they made a fuss of our little boy and didnt mind his regular wanderings holding our hand through the pool bar - we didnt buy food every day and they still didnt mind, shaking his hand, shouting "hiya" and "yasou" and introducing him to Pipitsa's elderly mother!
The cleaner also made a fuss of him and was very friendly and did a good job. For once we got more than 2 tiny loo rolls in our s/c apt!
Everywhere was very clean, well kept, food at pool bar was good and competitively priced. Daytime staff very friendly, and free wifi connection available.
All in all, even including the very steep hill (described by one of the older residents as cardiac hill) we would go back tomorrow.
Despite another review saying the owners are not child lovers I think they are but they want children to behave to prevent any other residents becoming upset - personally I dont mind this type of attitude at all.
There are lots of lovely restaurants in Kassiopi, we have been 4 times now. Porto (at the port) is good with a limited menu, Strofolia on the main street is a winner - food is fab with a quieter vibe, Castello also very nice. Room 306 which was round the corner from us has a bigger area outside the front could be better for those travelling with children to give some area to play on the terrace outside the room.
Overall, a definate winner for me.
Oh, also, a few days were a bit cool and we bought food at lunch time from the pool bar and the staff brought it round to our room so that we could eat inside with our little boy. They could not have been more thoughful.
(Air con costs quite expensive - 45 euro for a one bed apt for the week - excellent quality air con though, one unit in each room which can be independantly set and were almost silent)

Room Tip: Room 304/5 and 6 all face the sea but are ground floor next to the pool bar (if that puts you off) a...

“Typical Greek Place”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 October 2011

My wife and I went to Lofos in September 2011. We were pleasantly suprised by our room, although typically greek it was better than some we have had. Twin room overlooking the pool even though we asked for a high room ??? Seems they place you where there is a vacany (turned out good for us) Clean and tidy with lots of space. Linen and towels changed twice during our stay. Kitchen was twin ring (as always) we had lots of glasses, cups, crockery, cutlery etc, we even had a kettle. Twin beds were very hard with typical budget mattresses - always woke with backache. The shower was also typically Greek, hot or cold depending what time you got a shower but usually enough hot water to go around. But generally very pleasant and of a good standard. The only annoyance was people walking past throughout the day, although, we where out most days so didnt find this a problem but, if we had chosen to sit outside our apartment it would have felt intrusive with all the comings and goings. Luckily we had a nice Scots couple next to us who had the same "chilled out" attitude. Most of the time it was quiet and relaxing. The Lofos is situated above and overlooks the town with lovely views across the Ionian sea to Albania. Standing/sitting at the veranda edge by the pool was a lovely chance to ponder and relax after a hard day or before the day starts. Previous reports of "the hill" are not exagerated, its about 30 meters up from the gate to room areas. If you have health or mobility problems you might find it a bit of a task getting up it. Also the "barking dog" reported is still there. There is a local family just below the Lofos with 2 dogs on their balcony, if you are on the front in the lower apartments you will be disturbed by them occasionally and the odd mongrel wanders up and joins in. In fact, Kassiopi seems full of barking dogs and crowing cockerels whom have no sense of time! These are just the obvious niggley points I would like to report to users. However, all in all the Lofos is a very nice place to stay and situated in the right place. The owners and staff where always pleasant and courteous, never intruding but always on hand. The pool area is very nice and kept spotless with enough sun loungers to go around etc (though some couples did the old "get up early with your towel tricks" to bag a bed) even though there was no need. They have a pool bar the does food/drink etc up until about 19.00hrs and it never got noisy or rowdy whilst we where there. Its also literally a couple of minutes stroll to the town and harbour where you have a choice of tavernas, bars. Try boat hire from "Phillipos boats" by the harbour. We had a great time here relaxing and doing our own thing. I would recommend it to most people except the elderly, its a bit of a hike "going for it" up the hill.

Room Tip: Take earplugs ? and mosquito repellant, you may want the earplugs if you are near the dogs, but you...

“If you have a family DO NOT BOOK THIS!!!!!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 August 2011

The owner does not like children- unless you are going to spend most of your money in his little snack bar-food limited and basic. We stayed for 2 wks fantastic views and fell in love with Kassiopi. After the first wk the owner took the ball from my 3 boys and wouldn't give it back. I went to ask for it and was told that my boys were very naughty in front of everyone in bar and round pool. I felt very embarrassed (my boys not particularly naughty just average 10 11 13 year olds) other guests present subsequently commented that there weren't any issues with my kids and were mortified at the way the owner spoke to me. My husband went to complain to owner at way the I'd been spoken to- expecting an apology. The owner said he made the rules and if we didn't like them we could leave! This was half way through our holiday and as u can imagine it put a dampener on the hol and made us feel uncomfortable by the pool. After this our general treatment suffered. We did not get any clean towels and the sheets not changed. Our room was basic ( we have been to Rhodes many times) but we didnt even have enough cutlery and crockery for 3 people in each room. All the room had was fridge kettle and 2 ring hob (these didn't work and when we spoke about this we were told we had to pull out fridge and plug in ourselves). Strangely that night the owners came to our room and told us that we had to plug Hob out for H&S reasons-further encouragement to eat at the bar no doubt?!?!?!. This was a S/C hol but signs around pool stated food and drink only to be consumed from the bar!!. We really enjoyed Kassiopi but wouldn't advise you book this hotel. Places to eat- Janis and Castellea amazing!! couple of Gyros places. Cosmic to book all trips- really helpful- we did boat trip and horse riding ( well looked after horses). Seasons Bar for Internet for the kids, Sport for dad and a chat with Deena (engligh owner) for mum really nice clean place. Pool table and free Playstation. Nice coves for snorkelling ( take beach shoes!) FAB AMAZING place- just don't go to Lofos. Other hotels Phillipos, Solaris, Andreas,Bellamy Vista. Have a fab time.
