My wife and I stayed two nights at this hotel in October 2011. The location is excellent. It's at the south end of the popular Chaweng Beach. So you can walk to all the bars, restaurants, massage parlours and night clubs of the famous (or infamous depending on your stand point) strip, while not affected by the noise, smell and chaos of Chaweng. It is also right on the beach. The sea is literally at your door step. So that getaway feeling is never far away.
The room we booked is Deluxe with Sea view. It is big and clean. However, furniture is old and tired. It only has a fridge, a CRT TV, but no kettle or safe. Further, don’t expect well stocked toiletries.
The position of the window is facing the sea, rightly so. However the curtain is next to useless in blocking the light. To make it worse, there are path lights right outside the terrace. It's impossible to have a good night's sleep with so much light leaked into our bed throughout the whole night.
We did ask to change room first thing next morning. The manager declined the room change but promised two things: first he would switch off the lights at night and second he would put up something on top of the curtains. We were fine with his proposals as long as the problem could be solved. Unfortunately both turned out to be empty words. I approached the front desk at 9PM when there were still no actions from the staff and the lights outside the windows still shone brightly as ever. We were told by the night girl that it's impossible to switch off only the light outside our window as all lights were controlled by one switch. She did however help to put up a blanket on top of the curtain to block the light, which was fine by us. We finally managed to sleep without light interference. However, we felt the service level was woefully inadequate through this episode.
Another point is we asked for a late check out and was promised a 1pm deadline. However a light at the centre of the ceiling inside the room, which is controlled by the hotel management, was turned on at around 10am, twice! I am not sure if this is the way the hotel conveys their feeling that it’s time for you to bugger off. But I do feel quite vulnerable as you don’t even have control of all the lights in your own hotel room.
I did not have the breakfast as I needed to leave earlier for diving. My wife did eat the breakfast. This is directly quoting her: “next time we should just go for room only”
Would I recommend staying in this hotel? Depends on your budget and you sensitivities to the service level.
