The location and the staff deserve a standing ovation for this small yet beautiful boutique resort. The entrance is right off the main Chaweng Beach road. You enter into a beautiful wooden oasis filled with water bodies and flora transferring you straight from the exciting life of the Chaweng Main Road to a calm and tranquil repose that you need. The staff is extremely courteous (as it goes for most Thai) and very helpful. The property have 33 rooms in all which are either Deluxe, Deluxe Dip Pool or Suites. They could be on the ground floor or on the first floor (like our number 18). As you walk through the property you end the other side on the main Chaweng Beach. The beach needs no introduction at all. The hotel provides you with an option to dine on a terrace overlooking the beach, lounge on the pool side along the beach, lounge on the beach or then use their great blue bean bag type loungers to be between the beach and the pool! We spent a good number of hours just soaking in the sun and doing nothing but sipping drinks and reading and snoozing! :) Even our 3 month old got a tan towards the end of the trip!
The room itself could have been a little bit more luxurious. The bed is fixed towards one corner of the room which meant that one of us sleeping towards the wall had to either jump over the other or walk across the bed vertically and then get off it. I thought that was a bit tacky. The rooms are painted in a nice light yellow with wooden furniture and all of them either have a balcony or a garden to sit in. The deluxe rooms have a bath tub along with a shower area. However, only one wash basin. Surprisingly the dip pool villas have only a shower area and no bath tub. Instead they also have a traditional thai wooden bucket to sit and pour a mug of water on yourself and bathe. Which I felt was opposite of luxury specially if you have paid for a dip pool villa! The bath amenities are all made of tamarind and they are filled regularly in a ceramic container for you to use. Again, a bit more luxury here would have helped. The rooms have a nicely appointed some fresh tropical fruits, mini bar, a 32 inch LED tv, a DVD player and a thai style lounger. We paid 7500 Baht for the deluxe room per night during the Chinese New Year time. Maybe for that money, a little bit more would have made a lot more difference.
There is only one restaurant on the premises. The Chef, Khun Tim is a very pleasant lady who makes sure you feel at home and you eat as if you are at home. They will customise the dishes as per your requirements and taste. The thai dishes are highly recommended. We stuck to the thai food and did not experiment with their continental ones. The breakfast is lavish as in any eastern country. You have fresh fruits, cold cuts, bread, cereal, hot meals such as eggs and fried rice, noodles and soups.
The GM Bernd is very hands on and very attentive to what the guests need and require. They make sure you feel right at home without any worry. They had a very cute little baby cot for our infant son. And each time we asked for something they would be prompt enough to oblige. Late check out is free of charge! Provided there is availability. We were allowed to stay till 3 pm on check out day.
The rooms towards the main road can get noisy due to the proximity and the nature of the street itself. So you are better off staying a bit inside. Anything beyond number 15 is good as they are more inside. If you have kids, then ask for a lower floor one so that you dont have to worry about them going up and down.
A must try and a welcome break from the crowded branded hotels. They have sister resorts on Koh Phangan named Rasananda.
Enjoy!
