“Great location and lovely breakfast spot”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 February 2012

I stayed at baan talay on and off for three weeks and used it as a base. I loved the great place you sit for breakfast and the fact it was just enough away from all the action and close to the main road round the island. The staff are great and I stayed in 3 of their rooms, all lovely standard and finished well. The rear rooms that back onto the wall aren't the greatest to walk out of but very quickly you are on the beach. Loved samui and loved the hotel, will definitely go back but poolside rooms a must

“Good place right at the start of the chaweng strip”

Good and friendly staff. Good location since its on Chaweng. The resort is on the beach, so you can literally get out of your room and get on to the beach in a minute. The rooms are spacious, clean. If people want luxury, this is not the place. This place offers the necessary in a clean envioronment and a good location. Breakfast was good, again its not a king's breakfast but you cannot complain with what they have. Having been here once, I would try something else if I go back, but would I recommend this? Yes.

“Value for money? This is not it.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 January 2012

Let me start by saying that overall I think that Baan Talay Resort is not the value for money deal that one hopes to get on a budget vacation. The rooms are spacious and somewhat comfortable but the location of the resort is the biggest issue that I had throughout my stay there. Even though the resort has a beach front to it, but what good is a beach front if there are no water sport activities available there. To get on a jet ski you would either have to take a 15 min walk or wait for 30-45 min till the hotel can arrange for the jet ski to come to the hotel beach front.

Let's talk about night life now. To get to the heart of Chaweng you would have to take a 30 min walk one way from the hotel, the next best alternative is you take a 350-400 Baht taxi ride to get to the happening area of Chaweng beach. So for me I think the location was the biggest deal breaker.

Personally if given the option I would prefer other hotels in the same price range at Chaweng beach which are much closer to the activities than Baan Talay on my next visit to Koh Samui.

“lovely beach front bungalows”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 January 2012

We have travelled to and around Thailand a couple of times now but this was our first time on Koh Samui and we spent 4 nights of our honeymoon here in May 2011.

As it was part of our honeymoon we stayed in one of the most expensive rooms -the beach front bungalow -which there were only 3 of. The room and bathroom were huge, very modern inside with TV, toileries, fridge just about everything - it was great and more importantly it overlooked the beach with it's own 'terrace'. This room was lovely, it was an amazing room.

We just really loved the hotel and restaurant.

This is not a big resort, it was quite small and just what we wanted so can only review it on that! We had great service from the reception, we used the hotel computers, we never used the pool (why would we when the beach and sea is on your door step!) and we ate breakfast each day in the restaurant we we thought was nice and had everything we could have wanted and we also ate 1 evening meal here (the chicken satays were great) and a lunch meal once too. It was a lovely restaurant with great views.

This resort is at the quiet end of Chaweng which is great because you can leave the maddness behind and it is quiet and the beach area doesn't get very crowded. You can walk up to the main hub (less than 5 min walk) either then by the beach or road.

The resort doesn't look much from the road - but non of them do, but it definitely has the best beach position. We ate in a few places near the hotel which were also nice like the loft and there is a great cocktail bar nearby to have a drink and watch the maddness go by!

Definitely would recommend for a quiet stay.

“a little peace of paradise”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 November 2011

We booked at Baan Talay for in total 5 nights for a superior room (3 days at Baan Talay, then an escape to Koh Tao and the return for another 2 days). However we paid a little extra and got the pool room, which is highly recommended. The room has been recently renovated, very clean, nicely decorated clean and a comfortable king size bed. Bonus: little front private patio with a table and two seats. When waking up, right in front of you a nice well sized swimming pool and well maintained garden with pond (water lilies), ten metres further: the ocean and white sanded beach.
After our return from Koh Tao, Alex, the manager, gave us directly the key to our same room (11.30 am, before check in time). Our suitcases which we left for storage, were already in the room, air-conditioning on, we felt welcomed with open arms.
Great breakfast with a large variety of daily fresh products: salad bar, Asian food, bacon & sausages, juices, cereals, fruit, bread, eggs made upon request, etc. The restaurant where they serve great food as well as the breakfast is located right at the beach, it results in a breathtaking view overlooking the ocean and white sanded beach.
Baan Talay is located at a perfect part of Chaweng (south): tucked away from the crowded streets, but close to lots of great places to eat (tip: Restaurant Two Chefs), bars, travel agents, massage studio’s, etc.
We have enjoyed every minute of our stay at Baan Talay, Alex and his team were always helpful, smiling and friendly. This hotel with its well-maintained garden is highly recommended, it was beyond our expectations and good value for money. Thank you Alex and team for giving us an unforgettable time at Koh Samui, for that “home” feeling, we would certainly stay here again if we came back to Koh Samui
