I must confess to being somewhat apprehensive when booking this hotel, mainly because of the reviews on tripadvisor.
I read through what felt like hundreds of them trying to make my mind up whether this hotel would be good to bring my wife on our honeymoon.
The long and the short of it is: we can understand why a minority of people *might* be upset with this hotel, but we weren't. In fact we loved it and would stay there again and would recommend it to anyone.
Based on a review we had seen on tripadvisor about overbooking I contacted the hotel by email prior to arrival and asked them if there would be an issue with this and they assured me there wouldn't (and there wasn't a problem).
I also requested an early check-in (due to 3 leg travel) which they very obligingly provided, along with an airport transfer which, although slightly over-priced was most welcome after such a gruelling travel schedule.
Check in was smooth and friendly.
The hotel is set in tropical gardens, almost like being in a jungle (in a nice way) with lots of fresh (not stagnant) water trickling through it. Little wooden low-rise structures, either bungalows or 2 storey flats with a room on each floor. Very nice indeed.
The room itself was adorable. Large comfortable bed, wooden floor, ample terrace and all the trimmings. Complimentary water was provided as one would expect.
Bathroom a little tired but not so much so that it would put you off.
One of the main reasons we booked this hotel was because we love a swim-up pool bar and the hotel did not disappoint, we spent many an afternoon there and found the pool bar staff to be warm, friendly and polite.
The pool in question is in the middle of the resort, is small and very relaxed.
The main pool was on the beach and more, well, "beachy" with a lot more people round it.
One of the only negatives we have about this hotel is the price of drinks. At 120 Baht for a local beer we were very disappointed. I feel the hotel could charge 60 Baht and possibly be MORE profitable due to the volume of people who would spend more time in the hotel and I would urge the manager to consider running a trial of this system.
To be fair there is a happy hour a 3pm which effectively does this, but 1 hour is not enough.
The beach was... amazing! This hotel seems to have some sort of agreement which means the sellers don't come right up to you on your sundbed peddling their wares, rather they let you see from a distance which is fine and acceptable.
The sand is beautiful and I think this hotel has just about the best position in the whole of Chaweng.
(By the way if you are thinking of staying anywhere else in Koh Samui and it is your first time, we would definitely recommend Chaweng Beach. Having driven round virtually the whole island we realised we were in by far the best spot)
The location was great in terms of external facilities. It is in prime position on Chaweng Beach road. A 2 minute walk to bars, restaurants and facilities galore.
One reviewer mentioned the noise at night. Ok fair point but it won't be different anywhere else in Chaweng Beach. It is a lively resort but in the room in bed I doubt you would be inconvenienced unless you were, dare I say it, nitpicking?
One thing I felt was a real example of the character of the hotel in general. My wife removed her wedding ring and diamond engagement ring in order to apply some sun-cream and in one of those holiday moments forgot to put them back on. We realised 30 minutes later at the poolside and rushed back to the room to check if they were still there.
The cleaners had already been in, but.. the rings were both still there.
I realise this is how you would expect this to be, but despite the obvious temptation we were relieved and extremely impressed with the honesty of the staff and in general how good the staff were in all departments of the hotel.
Do: Get a first floor room if you like your privacy
Don't: Stay at this hotel if you are looking for silence and complete calm
Top Tip: Going out at night? Try going along the beach instead! That's right just go barefoot and there are several fantastic beach bars (some loud, some quiet, we preferred the quiet ones) which will offer you fantastic value for money, and a front-row seat to watch the lanterns and fireworks which occur virtually every night :)
I hope this is a balanced account of everything and as I know the manager keeps a close eye on tripadvisor and often comments, would very much like to thank them for making us feel so very welcome and for making our honeymoon the very special trip it ought to be.
Keep up the good work :)
Room Tip: Bungalows and ground floor rooms may not be as private as you like with people walking past. If you...
