“Fabulous Design and Views, But in Need of Spruce-up”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 February 2012

Situated at the lower part of Chaweng Main Strip, away from the noise and bustle but just minutes away by car to the action. The property is a compact, cosy place best suited for relaxation and occasional walks by the beach. It doesn't have its private beach but one can reach a clean, quiet beach via a boardwalk at the end of the restaurant.

Nearby there are two other sizeable hotels, and a smattering of restaurants. Opposite the property is a small provision shop, but variety is very limited, comprising mainly snacks and beverages.

There were a few hiccups at the beginning of stay; Blinds were jammed, mattress cover was stained and air-conditioning did not cool. Put off by these annoyances, it was feedback-ed to the Front Desk Manager and she helped tend to these very quickly and got them resolved. Impressed by the service recovery and the following days were pretty smooth from there on.

I stayed in a Seafront Pool Villa and below are some observations:

Good -

- Friendly and responsive staff in the restaurant and spa, as well as the phone operator.
One incident when the Chaweng Noi region had cable tv power cut, the staff provided updates and assurances they are pressing for a solution from the providers.

- Integrity and honesty in the restaurant staff, after spotting I had left my wallet on the table leaving the restaurant, a staff went after me to return it.

- Front Desk staff brought towels and ice water when they see guests struggling in the heat.

- Design of the property ensures the pool villas had the best views of the sea and beach, from the bed, sundeck and the infinity-edged pool.

- Location of property ensures guests have the best of both worlds, the views of a beach or the sea, right from your own pool villa. Situated a good distance from the airport, guests can see the planes land and take off but not hear them.

- Pool villa offers guest/s various ways to relax - a seperate living room with sofa, deck chairs, beach bar-styled chairs and tables. Only a sala is missing.

- Property is clean and well-maintained, fallen leaves are raked, rubbish left by guests collected promptly

- Staff throughout the hotel are friendly and ensures guests are rarely ignored passing by them. Not intrusive, just simple hellos from them, even down to the gardener.

- Spacious bathroom with seperate WC and shower area.

- Pool feels clean and water fresh. Clearing the pool seems to be done regularly.

- Tidy, good set of toiletries provided

- Reasonable-priced food in the restaurant

- Constant soothing sounds of the wave in the pool villa

Bad -

- Heavy set of curtains require much strength to operate, and thin strings can cut tender skins.

- Bedroom design places bed in the middle, constraining the free area surrounding it, made it feel squeezy

- Furnishing needs a major overhaul. Stained items are not cleaned/replaced, eg. Cup trays, mattress cover, beach towels and walls of pool villa, to name a few. Some furniture are chipped and or rusted.

- Pool Villa has a lack of privacy as the grass patch in front of each villa's pool are practically connected. Peopl can pass through should one make an effort to do so.

Can do Better -

- Situated close to the road, the Deluxe rooms and Jacuzzi Suites are prone to traffic noise but it's not a big problem at night. Rooms can be fitted with sound-isolation fixtures The villas have no such problems.

- Library/Workstation area can be made to be more welcoming; It is very stuffy and hot without the fan being turned on.

- Menu in the restaurant is a little light in variety, and bar could do with a wider range of drinks.

- Not enough deck chairs in the main pool, and the main pool area is a little small.

- Staff can be better-informed of the restaurants and spas nearby the hotel and advise guests.

Room Tip: Choose Pool Villas 105 and upwards for a view with more sea than beach

“Really Terrible Hotel”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 February 2012

I think the people who wrote glowing reviews of this place are paid reviewers. The place is run down, on a main road where you hear heavy traffic ( unless you get the ocean front villa). There is NO beach here! Nice view , but rocks are below. YOu have to walk along the main road cut through a restaurant to get to the beach. And don't think you can use the lounge chairs at the other hotels located on the beach. Breakfast is just ordinary. Housekeeping although friendly is not well run. The front desk and restaurant staff seem to have shifts like nurses, very long work hours so that could explain the poor service. With so many other wonderful resorts on this island it makes no sense to stay here. We had stayed at the Amari Resort on another beach in Thailand which was outstanding value. We had dinner at one of the restaurants in the Amari on Koh Samui. Wish our agent had booked us there instead of the terrible Saraan.

Room Tip: If every hotel is already booked on the island then specify the ocean front villa where at least you...

“Excellent hotel and value”

Excellent location, at end of nice beach with good restaurants and night spots. Awesome pool looking onto sea, good service from staff, access to Internet etc. Rooms are very nice although don't get the point of the verandas if you're in he second row of villas as view is closed in courtyard and heat does nt allow you to sit outside. Aircon was broken in two rooms but we were moved. The hotel is very nice and the breakfast on patio overlooking pool is very enjoyable. I will stay here again but I would suggest for couples etc. Rooms setup is very well thought and modern with Thai twist.

“Excellent Place, Great Property, OK service”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 January 2012

We had one of the plunge pool villas. Firstly the pool is great, the view is great and if the weather is good, this a must-go property. However they dont have heated pools (apparently all over thailand) which meant in december weather, its not possible to be in the pool at night. We did it anyways after a few drinks but the water was cold. They were pretty much sold out hence the service was not at par. Location was ok, about a 400bht cab ride each way to chaweng. For the amount we spent, i would have rather stayed at the W. but overall we had a great trip hence the 4 stars.

“The Serene.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 January 2012

To begin with: The Rooms...out of this world. Well appointed, comfortable, spacious, peaceful...this place is just what you need after a violent party at the Chaweng beach or a day trek to the hoax (and the real) attractions of the Samui island. Conveniently, it is removed from Chaweng town lending it an extra ounce of peace and comfort. The staff are brilliant as long as you can see them (in the restaurant, around the pool) but the moment you step out of sight, its difficult to get their attention. The food and the spa are decent, the bar though is not the best. I'd recommend looking for deals before booking directly since we got a pretty decent one on one of the websites.

Ps. Yui's Massage on your left when you head to CHaweng town. The brackish young woman is an artiste. By the time you leave you'd have stretched muscles you didn't know you had. Highly recommended. She also rents out bikes by the way.

Room Tip: VIllas. Expensive but heavenly.
