“A great value B&B with a central location and wonderful hospitality.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 April 2011

We stayed at Hillside for the first two nights of our trip up the Outer Hebrides. This B and B is less than 5 minutes from the ferry, bike hire, post office, buses and shops. Doreen was an excellent host, she could not have been more helpful and welcoming. Our room was clean and comfortable and we had the resident's lounge to ourselves. We had hearty breakfasts and the home-baked treats were delicious!

Room Tip: Whisky Galore is available in the lounge

“Great start to holiday”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 September 2010

Fantastic B&B! What a great place to stay. Comfortable beds, black out curtains and a truly wonderful full breakfast. Doreen is a treasure who is both polite and engaging. She even let us leave our bags for the next morning so we could explore before we moved on.
Truly recommended!

Its easy walking distance from the terminal, backs on to fields and overlooks the bay. The view from the breakfast table is wonderful. There is a hotel near by which does reasonable evening meals, cashpoint, local shops all in easy reach.

If you are starting island hopping up the hebredies this is ideal for your first night!

“Great place to stay in Barra”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 September 2010

Doreen is a great host who makes her guests feel very welcome into her home. We spent 2 nights here and explored Barra. A great location overlooking Castlebay and just a short walk to hotel restaurants, the ferry etc. Would be very happy to stay here again if we were to return to Barra.

“Bed, Breakfast and Cake”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 August 2010

This small bed and breakfast is located a short walk from Barra Harbour set at the base of a large hill. The dining room (used for breakfast) overlooks the bay and castle offering excellent views with your fry-up/porridge/cereal/toast.

This accommodation is served by excellent public transport which includes both the Oban ferry and the bus that travels around the island linking the town with the airport and another ferry link to South Uist.

On entering our room we were delighted to see a plate containing a range of cakes including home made scones and jam. Breakfast is cooked to order and guests are requested to complete a simple from stating what they would like prior to gong to bed each night. The owners were very friendly and informative about the island making this a bed and breakfast that I will return to. I always wonder with accommodation as good as this why to people use hotels.

“We felt really at home here”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 August 2010

Had a very happy three days staying at Hillside (helped by unexpectedly glorious weather) - Doreen is a lovely hostess and her cooking and home baking is great. The room wasn't very big but was nicely decorated, clean and comfortable. The breakfast room has a wonderful view out over the sea. The location is just a short walk uphill from the pier in a quiet close behind the Craigard hotel (handy to pop in for a beer at the bar on the way home). At only £56 per night for the double ensuite room we thought it was excellent value too.
