“Lovely location, a charming hotel inside the jungle, right next to a river”

It's a lovely place to stay and enjoy the views of this region that some call "the Dominican Alps". It's near the small town of Jarabacoa, but one feels completely in the middle of the jungle, next to a scenic mountain river, the Jimenoa.
Not the cheaper hotel for Dominican Republic, at least compared with the prices one pays in the great beach resorts of the country, but I guess that I could have paid much less if I had made a reservation not directly at the hotel.

“Rapidly worth it”

We were staying at the Pinar Dorado and were pretty disappointed in our choice. We had reservations for 4 days. On the 2nd day, we decided to go to The Gran Jimenoa for dinner after hearing many good things about it. The moment we got there we were upset...........upset that we had not chosen this place instead. And that feeling got worse and worse the more we checked the place out.
The oriental style garden and the landscape was so beautiful. Even at night.
The walkway along the river was stone and tile and really pretty.
The hanging bridge gave us a really great view of the entire river as well as the hotel and restaurant.
Dinner was good. A bit pricey but good.
Room was fantastic. View of the river from the balcony. Nice chairs and little table on the balcony. GREAT bed. Lots of storage space. Not the biggest room ever but it was ok for the 2 of us with one bed. TV mounted on the ceiling/wall was cool.
Pool was really nice.
No hot tub yet, still working on it.
Ping pong and pool were fun at night.
GREAT staff, very helpful. After we ate dinner that night we asked to reserve a room starting that night for the next 2 days and they helped make it happen. As well as getting us taxis whenever we needed it.
A motorcoche to town was only a couple bucks for the two of us. And it was fun. The desk can call for you and the people they called who came and got us were safe, fair, and polite.
There is a building across the river, crossing over on the hanging bridge, that does karaoke and dancing if thats up your alley.
Over all, a really really great place to relax in a clean, friendly, tasty, peaceful, comfortable, and beautiful environment.

“No HOT WATER or Water Pressure - 1 Star - Maybe”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 January 2008

I was unimpressed with the accomodations. We had two very small and uncomfortable beds. When we got there the sink was broken and leaking onto the floor. The cable TV had static and was unwatchable and the remote control never worked even after asking them 4 times to fix it. There was very little if any hot water and absolutely no water pressure at all in order to take a shower. If this is an upscale hotel, then I'd hate to see the low scale hotels.

The restaurant by the river was nice with decent food, but beyond that I don't see anything that attractive about it.

“Gran Jimenoa is Cool!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 January 2008

Recently stayed 4 days/3nights here. Immaculate grounds and exterior maintenance. Pool area was clean, hot tub not in service.

The resort was cleaning up from minor damage from the river flooding due to TS Noel. The bridge to the kareoke bar and gazebo was gone! They were making expedicious repairs and the resort will be like new in weeks.

Food in the river side restaurant was excellent though a little pricey. ONE MEAL will easily feed two people....we made the mistake of ordering BIG one night and learned of their generous portions. The LOCATION makes the price worth the meal.

Rooms are "estillio campo", lots of wood and tile....had an issue with HOT WATER in our room. (There was none) Although it took some "serious" negotiation, we were moved to an upgraded room to our liking. SERVICE was good!

We will go back...highly recommend Rancho Baiguate for rafting, rappelling and hiking tours....they also have a nice facility with rooms but no AC.

“Quaint, clean hotel with nice atmosphere”

Recently spent 2 nights at the Hotel Gran Jimenoa and had a great time. The rooms are clean and comfortable and includes free breakfast at the hotel restaurant. The tropical courtyard has a nice pool and comfortable lounge chairs. However, the hot tub was not working while we were there. The restaurant overlooks a beautiful rapid on the river below. Food was very good.
Overall, would highly recommend staying at this hotel while in Jarabacoa.
