Was excellent value for a Los Gigantes hotel. The hotel has a supermarket 30m from the front door (step out, turn left). The rooms almost all have sea views and are spacious, well equiped and air conditioned, they are quite old, but very well looked after. Went self catering and there's all the basics you need for this. €10 depost for the 2 remote controls - aircon and TV, which is understandable. TITSA's 473 (slow) / 477 (fast) buses from Las Americas stop 5m from the front door. Their staff were very polite and professional, I have worked on a hotel reception before and was impressed.
Some brilliant sunsets to be seen from the balcony - the sun sets over La Gomera island at about 7pm and it's worth sitting outside with a bottle of wine.
Only complaint - despite 30 Spanish TV channels and about ten German channels, there's only one English channel, Euronews - awful! ...annoying as about half their guests are English. So was left watching BBC's Top Gear dubbed into Spanish :o( however there is a normal euro scart socket on the back of the TV, so it was lucky I brought a DVD player and some films.
Booked to stay with them again in a few weeks, so proves they are good.
Over the 5 days - trips done by public bus (much cheaper & quieter)....
(1) Masca, a beautiful mountain village, lots to see, then a two hours difficult walk down it's amazing gorge to the small isolated beach below. Ferryboat back to Los Gigs (€10) - lots of people do it. (2) Teide, the Volcano which Tenerife sits on (reqs two buses) - up on the cable car (€15) from the Teleferico bus stop, some breathtaking views from the 3700m summit, then hiked back down to the bus stop. (3) Puerto de la Cruz - brilliant for shopping & food, and plenty to do. Long but very scenic 1hr 50m bus ride from the front door of the hotel. (4) Garachico - a small town with some fantastic black sand beaches, near Icod.
