“Wonderful stay at Chateau Camiac”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 September 2007

We had a wonderful stay at this historic chateau built in 1834. It was in excellent condition having been recently renovated and the grounds were beautiful. A small number of staff provided very personalized attention and they were always curteous. The gormet food in the restaurant exceeded our expectations both in presentation and quality. We recommend this location for anyone looking for a quiet, comfortable stay in the heart of the wine region.

“We won't be back”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 June 2007

My partner and I stayed at Chateau Camiac for 4 nights commencing Wednesday 23rd May.
This is the first time I have ever complained after a holiday .
The hotel was empty for our first two nights which whilst not an issue, was a little strange and scary. The staff were very friendly and attentive and the food was fine, although with just the 2 of us eating the menu was very very limited (2 choices for each course) as the chef no doubt needed to minimise wastage.
The hotel was however very very expensive at 1,000 euros for the 4 nights for the following reasons:-
- The pool was dirty/unusable and had no furniture to sit or lay on. We decided that we would lay outside by the pool on our own towels, but couldn't as the pool area was covered in red ants.
- The tennis courts were very old and in great need of repair, with large cracks running throughout which could cause accidents. The tennis courts do not look any thing like the photograph on their web site. I would say that the current state that the courts are in they should be closed. A health & safety issue that needs addressing.
- The air conditioning in our room was not working. We informed staff about this, and they made no efforts to have it looked at. It was so hot in our room at night time we had extreme difficult in sleeping
- The lake near the hotel is very dirty and caused many mosquito's which plagued us at night, therefore we could not have any bedroom windows open, and without any air conditioning it was unbearable.
- The lift was out of action for most of our stay
- There was no furniture on the terrace for us to sit and have coffee etc in the afternoons
- The grounds are in a poor state and urgently need a gardener. so much could be made of this hotel with some investment

Had we of known the above before our stay then we would not of used the hotel, and we will certainly not be going back. For 250 euros a night the hotel is probably the least value for money I have ever received on my holidays.

  • Liked — The staff were very friendly and tried to accommodate us the best they could with such limited facilities
  • Disliked — Lack of advertised facilities, cost, no air conditioning, hotel grounds

“Excellent Service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 August 2005

After a long search in this practically deserted part of France we came across Camiac down a long private drive. This Chateau has been updated to a contemporary Frencg style, so don't expect period details. The chateau has some simply breathtaking rooms but we opted to stay in the stables which were well restored with fabulous beams. The restaurant maitre d and staff offered impecable service with one of the best steaks I have ever tasted in France. They were attentive, friendly but utterly professional. The lady on reception was very helpful, even offering me her final cigarette as the residents of the village of Camiac had fled for the summer and every shop had closed. The pool has good views and is well maintained.

“charming small chateau”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 September 2004

This is a very charming chateau with peaceful surroundings in the heart of the Bordeaux region. Staff is very considerate, helpful and lets you visit exclusive vineyards without appointment. Be sure to visit Chateau Belair - its vintage wine (we tried 1975) is excellent with price much more moderate than other vineyards of the same Premier Gran Cru wines. The chateau rooms are rather small and average-equipped, although modern in amenities due to recent remodeling. Very romantic place. Probably not for family with young kids, though. We had two toddlers who could not keep the noise level down in this quiet place.
The restaurant is quite elegant in decor and food prepared with sophistication.
