“We loved it and we'll be back”

My husband and I, with another couple, recently spent 6 days at Chateau Camiac. From the moment we drove up , the rest and relaxation we were looking for began. The entire staff were immediately at our car almost before we could exit with warm greetings and smiles. This type of hospitality continued throughout the entire stay. We were assured and reminded daily that we were not to hesitate to ask for anything.

The Chateau is totally restored and there is absolute attention to detail everywhere you look. The intimate and beautifully appointed dining room serves excellent meals. The rooms are also tastefully appointed.....beds wonderful.

The Chateau Camiac is a bit off the beaten track so we would recommend having access to you own car if you are not of the mind to stay around the Chateau. This, of course, would also depend on the length of your stay. The grounds are vast and very natural conducive to strolling and reading etc. There is a beautiful pool area as well. The Chateau staff will arrange Winery visits etc but were had our own resources in place before we left Canada and we also had a rented car so we did not take advantage of this service. The Chateau is approximately 40 - 50 km from the lovely city of Bordeux .

We highly recommend the Chateau Camiac.

“very basic and do not stay in annex”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 September 2010

Our visit here was actually to the restaurant as many are closed on sunday night .. because of that we decided to stay in one of the cheaper rooms in the annex which really was a huge mistake . Even at this stage I still feel the horrors when it think of it .. it was truly awful . i didn't even use the bathroom .its just so old ...you feel the walls are damp.. i had read the review which recommended not to stay there but i thought it would be fine enough when we only wanted a bed for the night after dinner... well it isn't.. I have no idea what the rooms in the chateau are like but there really is nothing of what you would expect from a chateau in the common areas. From the moment i walked in it was just like a quality inn type.. the chairs in the library/sitting room are those cheap leatherette tub chairs .so don't go expecting to be relaxing in old fashioned luxury.
The meal was lovely though .. missing was atomosphere as there were only two other couples. I only saw one staff member for the entire stay .. he came to reception showed us to the room served us wine at the pool and waited on us at dinner and i never saw another perosn. In fairness to him he really did absolutely everything he could to make our stay a good one ... the wine list was good also.
It is not within walking distance of any town or village.

“Do not stay in the Annex”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 June 2010

This is the first time I have ever found reason to post a review online but I would hate for anyone to be as disappointed as we were to find that our room in the Annex at 90 Euros/night was actually what the French call a 'gite' ie a hostel! The floor was sticky, the room and bed damp and we could hear our neighbours snoring next door!

The rest of our family stayed in the main hotel where the rooms were much nicer. However, overall the service was just not to standard. The waiter was keen to please but overwhelmed. The owner not inspiring.

Our flight was delayed and we were simply greeted with a note (it was only 11pm when we arrived so not so late!) and there was no way for us to eat dinner which is highly disappointing after such a long trip.

We had dinner in the restaurant the following night and the food was good so it was not all a bad experience. And the area is beautiful. Just a real shame about the room which somewhat dampened (excuse the pun!) the weekend.

“Spyns Tour de France Thumbs Up!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 November 2009

I recently stayed at this excellent hotel about 20 km from Bordeaux. Nestled among the vines, I was there doing some research for my company's 2010 Tour de France trips. Upon arrival, the owner Jean Marc greeted me warmly, made dinner, and we spent about 3 hours talking and laughing away. It truly felt like staying with a good friend. The room was spectacular. Not only large enough to land a plane in but clean as a whistle. I was traveling in the fall and couldn't take advantage of the swimming pool but I'm looking forward to bringing Spyns 2010 Tour de France clients here.

“A Pleasant Chateau-Hotel in the Quiet Bourdeaux Contryside”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 July 2009

We were looking for a place close in to Bordeaux but a quiet place out in the countryside. Chateau Camiac was the perfect choice. The staff was attentive and we were shown several available rooms. We opted for one in the artfully modernized stables. Our room was air conditioned with a balcony facing the chateau and the open fields beyond. There is a pleasant pool sited on the hill behind the 19th century chateau. Dinner options are limited but the food is excellent (the recommended wine was outstanding). When we left, the host provided a hand-drawn map showing us how to get to the train station, talking the time to explain the route.
