Pino Alto could be a great hotel if they could just get their food sorted . I stayed there Half Board from 31st August to 8th September .

The hotel was very clean and the room I was in has a nice new HD television. Like all hotels some of the staff were very friendly and others quite dour. A pint costs €2.90 and a cocktail about a fiver. The hotel is quite and everything shuts down at 12 midnight. Gyests seemed to be mainly Spanish and a few Germans.

Now to the food:

Breakfast: Breakfast is buffet style with plenty of ripe nice fruits, yogurts ,continental meats and cheeses , 4 cereals ,3 juices from a machine , orange, pear and apple, boiled eggs . There was always a good selection of breads and croissants etc as well
If you wanted a full breakfast you would be disapointed. the hot section every morning had so called sausages , choritos , rashers that had more fat than meat ( worse than streaky rashers), an inedible looking scrambled egg dish and a platter of fried eggs ( usually way over done. And just to make sure you enjoyed it , it was stone cold even at 7:30 when the dining room opened. Tomatos and mushrooms not on offer any morning. They have a microwave so you could zap it if it looked edible. I would rate the breakfast food 7 out of 10 except for the "hot" section which hardly qualifies as a 1.

Dinner: Starters were excellent . Big bowls of tiger prawns or salomn ,loads of mixed, bowls of shreeded , tomatos ,beetroot,onion , olives , cheeses ,hams and many more. All cold and fresh as they should be. Bread was also plentiful and the soup toureen was always hot.

Mains There were 2 fish and 2 meat dishesmost nights. There were no signs to identify what each dish was and even if there had been it still wouldn't make them edible or identifiable. Every evening there was a 3 or 4 dishes of veg as well and a tray of chips . Chips were the only dish that was hot . Everything else was stone cold...I mean stone cold .

Deserts; again a great selection of fruits, including melon , kiwis oranges etc. Cakes werey very nice and there were assorted bowls of differing deserts each night. There was also an ice cream fridge with 4 to 6 types of scoop icecream Another 7 maybe 8 out of 10 for deserts.

Summary: If you are into your hot food don't eat here. However the hotel is in a nice quite location and I would go back ( but only B&B). There is a lovely marina about 15 walk from the hotel which houses about 10 restaurants catering for all tastes and price ranges. I have eaten in most of them previously and the food is excellent.

Suggestion to management: Please start buying higher quality meats and get a chef who can cook and serve hot food! Serving hot dished "cold" is in breach of EU food standards and could lead to food poisioning.

Summary: A nice hotel for a quite break if they food could only get the food sorted!

We arrived at this hotel and stayed for 2 hours while i was on the phone to the agent getting us moved to another hotel.

We arrived at 3.00pm to find are room was not even ready even tho we were told on the booking are room would be ready from 2.00pm. After we checked in the hotel gave us the key to our room and didn't even bother to advise us where it was located we had to ask and even that seemed like an effort to the women behind the desk.
However when we did get to our room we found it was a twin room and we requested a double so the hotel moved our room. When we went in the lift, the lift shook and sounded awful like a ride from a theme park.

So second room did have a double bed but smelt like dog pee, had holes in the wall, bathroom was not very clean, outside the entrance to the room the carpet had stains on it and was in really bad condition. Overall standard was very disappointing and for a 4* did not deliver.

The hotel decor was very tired and the swimming pool looked dirty. The walls on our balony when touched were falling apart.

When we complianted to the hotel reception the lady agreed that the rooms were not up to standard and even advised us which area we could find another hotel to go to.

The hotel is located in Miami Playa (Miami Platja). It is a village consisting of lots of vacation homes. Very few people living there as a citizen. At the beach there a few restaurants and most stores up on the main road N 340. Africans on the beach braiding girls hair and selling D& G imitates and other big brands purses, belts, etc. Every Sundy there is in the next villages port l´hospitalet infant a big farmes market. Of course you can buy fruits and vegetables but mostly you can buy all kind of clothes.

We arrived early in the morning at 9.30. We were sure that we wouldn-t get a room yet. Were told at 12 we will get a room. So we waited. At 11.45 I asked again, but the lady at the front desk view to the clock made me feel, no guest can get into the room any minute earlier, she said of course "no".

The rooms (we were 2 adults and 3 kids) were fine, but the extra bed wasn-t put up yet, even so we booked the extra bed. The room had a view to the atrium were at nights the kids disco was and the evening entertainment, that means it was loud until 23 pm. It has an advantage, if you have kids, that you can join the entertainment from your balcony while the kids are in bed. We enjoyed it! The rooms had very good air condition and a little fridge (no freezer function). There was a lift in the hotel even so it was only 2 stories high

The animation was low, it offered for bigger kids badminton, ping-pong, boule and darts. There was no soccer or volleyball offered. But there were always kids participating. For little kids (must be at least 5) was only table activities offered- daily only from 16.30: handcraft work, coloring, play dough.
The adults were missing for the adult animation of cocktail games at noon, just no one wanted to participate. There was aqua gym and fitness were a few ladies joined. It was hard for the animation team when nobody from the adults want to take part in the activities. It was as well for the disco at night. So it ended up that most of the kids danced.

The kids had their own disco at 9 pm every night. And it was fun. For adults there was at 10 pm Quiz, Bingo, Disco or Show.

There was a fitness room (running, biking, Crosstrainer, weights), Sauna, indoor pool with jacuzzi jets (but the water was normal pool heat), a room with table kicker, 2 squash cours, pool billard, and 2 electronical game machines. In the hotel entrance room you could borrow English, German, Spanish etc. books. There was also a little store to buy a few toys, beach stuff, magazines postcards. You could rent a bike if you want.

The hotel had 2 little pools and sunloungers in the garden. In July everybody could get a sunlounger and the pool was never filled up. The swimmer pool was at the edge about 110 cm and in the middle 190 cm deep. The kids pool was about 90 cm deep. There was a pool bar where you could buy bocadillos (4 Euros), warmed up freezed pizzas, drinks and ice cream bars.

The food was very good. All you can wish in the morning even sparking wine! And the churros were the best! And real orange juice, apple juice, peach juice! I haven-t had that at most 4 stars hotels.
The dinner was good as the breakfast. Always 2 fish meals, and 2 meat meals. French fries for the kids almost every day and Gambas almost every day. It was a dream for the fish lover.
The beach was not far away. It was a long beach. But the first 3 metres there were stones and then it was fast deep. On some days there was the red flag flied and there were quite some huge waves. But take care of the stones.

There was a supermarket not far away (walk along the little forest, thru the tunnel until you reach the main road, walk to the right- it is a 10 minute walk.

We did 2 own excursions. One day to Barcelona (2 hours trip), we would recommend during summer time an early train( 8.27), to get a set, otherwise you have to stand for 2 hours), one day to the fun park Port Adventura. The train station is in the next village l´hospitalet de línfant (25 minutes walk). The train leaves at 8.27, 9.56, 11.26, 14.00 etc.
You can buy tickets in the train (ida and vuelta). In Barcelona it is better to get off and on in Passeig de Gracia. It is more central. Going back from there at 16.18, 17.48, 19.17, 20.46. In Barcelona you should buy a 10er card in the station, called "T-10" at the machine. With that you and your family can do 10 rides with bus a underground.

We flew with Ryan Air to Reus. The transfer thru taxi was very expensive almost 60 Euro. To get back we found a good alternative: happy rent, they brought us for 35 Euro to the airport, check this out: [-]. Of course they have also cars to rent. But you need to book early, when we wanted to rent a car for a day they were booked out.

Just back from a 5 day stay in the Pino Alto. Overall the hotel was fine! Value for money I would have no complaints. Cleanliness and staff were very good! We went B&B ! Breakfast was acceptable but not 4 stars ! I 4 stars spain is about 3 in Ireland! We didn't eat dinner in Hotel as you can walk the 400 metres to the marina and be spoiled by choice for the same money. Did look at buffet a few nights but at 20 euro per head was nearly the same as freshly cooked food in the marina! As a base the hotel was ideal but we would have been dissapointed if we had paid for full board! The area is very quiet and the hotel switch off all the outside lights at 12 midnight . Having left the kids at home we were glad of the early nights ( We had been in Italy with them earlier in the year) .

In conclusion I would say We would go back as it is a quaint mediterranean type hotel, its good value , if they improved the food it would be brill, the rooms were plain but clean and bright and its definately worth considering if you want a quiet relaxing base!
