Of all the places in our tour of Cuenca, Toledo and now here, this was the best hotel. The atmosphere here is wonderful and romantic. Goodness sake we stayed in an old palace connected to a castle! It doesn't get much cooler than that.
Our room was on the 5th floor which gave us a great view over the town. The room was large, and had a big bed with a canopy. Like something out of a fairy tale. My wife thought the bed was a bit hard however. The bathroom was also quite spacious.
Food was excellent but expensive particularly with the terrible exchange rate to the dollar.
The service was excellent and the people very friendly. I was particularly impressed that the lady at reception remembered our names when we saw her the next day.
Don't forget to visit the castle which is attached to the hotel. You can also rent a video tour thing for e euros which is in English and Spanish. The people in the tourist information office down the street are particularly helpful.
Many good restaurants in Oropesa so you are not limited to the food at the Parador.
By the way, the name of the town is "weight in gold" and refers the the legend of a princess who was taken ransom for her weight in gold. The town coat of arms is a fair damsel holding weighing scales.
