“Twixmas break”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 January 2012

This was a 4 day break between xmas and new year. All the staff were very helpfull ,some people seem to think it is a one way thing with staff but i am of the opinion that you show them respect and it comes back .We had one man who was so rude because the staff were not english so he deserved the same back , the food was very good with a nice selection each day.We had a room at the rear with no sea view but it was a very nice large room and the bathroom was first class. One of the best showers i have had.
The entertainment which was on every evening was good and finished at 11.0 pm every night.

“Elvis convention 2011”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 October 2011

I would like to start by saying the Elvis convention is brilliant so much fun and lovely atmosphere but then came the hotel.

We booked in for 2 nights and our rooms were at the back of the hotel (no sea view) the room itself was very well equipped and had recently been refurbished so was clean and tidy. We had room 119 floor 1 and unfortunately directly outside the window is 2 small chimneys which make a loud humming noise so you wont sleep, also steam emits continually from them, horrible and blows into the room so have to ensure the window is closed at all times. The remainder of the hotel is fairly shabby and well passed it’s Selby date.
I also have to say that staff at the hotel are unfriendly and very unhelpful, and breakfast time is a disaster. You have to queue up as it is served to you which includes the normal choice of menu but with extra grease and oil this breakfast should come with a health warning.

I feel the hotel is overpriced (95.00pn)for what you get and not at all good value for money.

Room Tip: Rooms 119, 219 and 209 are all at the back of the hotel overlooking the car park. Will need to requ...

“Another hotel that is not reinvesting in upkeep.”

Here is another hotel which has seen better days.
The check in staff gave the impression they were just doing their jobs, no friendly smiles or gestures. The bar staff were marginally better but I never once felt I wanted to tip them, which I usually do.
The bar furniture was falling apart and I saw nothing to suggest that Leisureplex see this hotel as anything other than an easy medium to generate profit with the lowest investment they can make. No attempt at refurbishment has been made as far as I can detect. It is just another building, once beautiful, in gradual decline.
Not everything was bad however and the restaurant staff were what you would expect, friendly and efficient, and the breakfasts were good. Also the location is superb.

I was very sorry to read of your disappointment with aspects of the Seabank Hotel, particularly your comment about the staff. All of the staff in the hotel receive regular compliments about their helpfulness and friendliness to the guests as can be seen in previous reviews.

We take exception to your comments about refurbishment which to date includes:
1) Entirely new domestic hot water and heating system
2) Remodelling of the kitchen layout, including new kitchen flooring and many new pieces of catering equipment eg new extraction chimney, dishwasher, grill, deep fat fryer, bain marie and hot cupboard, 6 burner range, 2 x rotary toasters, ice cream freezer, water boiler, 2 x coffee machines, meat slicer etc
3) New ceiling and lighting throughout the Reception, Bar, Restaurant and Ballroom on the ground floor
4) Replacement of the majority of the UPVC double glazed units in the bedrooms
5) Complete external re-decoration of the building
6) Complete refurbishment of 23 bedrooms and bathrooms, in their entirety, including re-wiring to include triple switching at the bedhead, fully re-decorated, new beds, new soft furnishings, new flat screen TVs, new flooring, fully tiled bathrooms with pressurised showers.

In one year we have invested over £ 0.5million with further investment planned for the winter when the hotel will close again for further work.

This hotel had seen better days but Alfa are trying to turn that around. Lets hope it continues at speed as many guests will have paid good money to get there.

Room Tip: Get a Seaview Room- its worth the extra.
