“Back for the second time”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 June 2011

Our second time to stay here (last time: March 2010). This time we stayed for 4 nights. The hotel was as good as always. The room was massive and spotlessly clean with a large balcony. The staff are all VERY friendly. We have one major problem with this hotel and that is the quality of the breakfast! (undrinkable juice, very little fruit, no cold milk for cereal, processed bread / toast in packets etc. Lovely coffee though! We know that breakfasts in Italian hotels aren't generally great but this hotel is particularly bad. I've noticed other reviews have made comments about the breakfasts here and it would be just great if the management would read these reviews and act on improving them. This hotel would then be perfect! Would we return even if the breakfasts weren't improved? Probably yes! Because everything else is perfect!
Castelbuono is a beautiful town. There are very few tourists (apart from bus loads that arrive for about an hour, take lots of photos and then leave!), the people are friendly and there are fantastic restaurants and bars. A visit to A Rua Fera ristorante (Via Roma 71) is a must! There is a lovely enoteca wine bar called EnoGastronomica (down a laneway off Piazza Margherita) - worth a visit! Also, if you have a car, take a trip further up the mountain to Geraci Siculo village. It's beautiful. We also visited Cefalu but it is overrun with tourists and very pricey restaurants!
Well done Ypsigro Palace, but please improve your breakfasts!

“Very good value and very well situated”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 May 2011

Ypsigro Palace is ideally situated right on the edge of the old town with easy access to the castle, shops and bars etc. It is a relatively new hotel with beautifully clean well presented rooms. Rooms have a small bar fridge, satellite TV, Wi-Fi. Bathrooms are of good size and well fitted out. For us the room was hot but I guess not by Sicilian standards hence the air conditioning wasn’t on. We had the window open or else the room got very stuffy which made it a little noisier but we still got good night’s sleep. Breakfast buffet was adequate but fresh juice would have been nice. We didn’t try an evening meal there. Parking is on the road only but at least saves driving through the narrow streets. Reception staff were very friendly and helpful. The hotel is well sited to tour the Madonie Park and Cefalu. Castelbuono itself is a wonderful little town, full of life. Much better value for money than staying nearer the coast.

“GOOD BASE TO EXPLORE CEFALU, CASTELBUONO TOWN BUZZES ON WKEND NIGHT, CENTRALLY LOCATED 5 MIN WALK FROM CAFES ETC.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 July 2010

We had a double room, spacious with large balcony, very clean. We stayed here as a cheaper option to Cefalu which we drove down to about 30min away, this hotel is suprisingly in a happening town which came to live on the Saturday night we were there, cafes/bars/restaurants all busy past midnight great to stroll through.

Receptionist very helpful with information the town and also Cefalu. Would recommend, a little far from Cefalu but if you are on a budget this is a good option, its gives you a chance to see Castelbuono.

Visit the panatone store that sent panatone to the Nasa team, there are free tastings and it is devine.

“very comfortable hotel in a very cosy town”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 July 2010

A cosy hotel very close to the center of the medieval town. Castelbuono is a very pleasant town in Madonie National Park - good option to spend an evening in the island's interior e.g. after spending a day in Cefalu. The hotel is comfortable, staff is very helpful. The price via booking.com was reasonable. Breakfast is ok. as for Italian standards. The only drawback for us was the central air-con system which was less efficient/convenient than the regular 'manual' air-con.

“Happy Every Minute”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 May 2010

Ypsigro Palace is a clean, friendly little hotel, perfectly located in Castelbuono if you're coming by car since the hotel is right at the top of the hill to enter the town--you can avoid driving on those charmingly narrow medieval streets, and you'll be very close to the 14th c. Ventimiglia castle for which the town is named. Parking is in front along the road or in a very small public area....I imagine parking might be an issue if you're at the height of the tourist season; as it was, I had no problem. I stayed five days (late in Oct.) and was happy every minute. Ypsigro Palace has a restaurant with a good menu, though the included breakfasts were ordinary for my taste. There's also a pizzaria off the main dining room. The rooms are comfortable, the bathrooms sparkling, and the staff are super nice. There's internet access on a hotel computer in the lobby. I would return to Ypsigro in a flash.

Castelbuono itself is wonderful...and friendlier than other towns I visited. The Piazza Margherita where the old church sits is a popular spot with locals. Getting a pastry in the shop there is a must. Also, don't miss a meal at Cycas--named after an ancient palm in the courtyard--tucked away on Via di Stefano. (Say hi to Giovanni for me.) You can spend a whole day just visiting the old churches and squares, and the Ventimiglia built fountains that kids still stop their bikes to drink from. If you have a car, drive up to Geraci. The locals will tell you the road is "not good," but it's a perfectly fine mountain road (good Italian engineering). Cefalu is another must see if you're based in Castelbuono. The cathedral there is one of southern Europe's hidden treasures.
