I had done extensive research on hotels before I booked my holiday to Turkey. And I was soooo glad I had Tripadvisor to help me, so I thought it was only rite to give my review so it can help other people who want to get a true opinion of places.
Ok, so firstly I kept being drawn to Club Sunsmile when trawling through all the reviews of hotels. I was a bit concerned when I first seen the reviews on how it's not located in Marmaris. Well, I was so happy of the location when I arrived and to be honest was relieved it was that wee bit out of all the hustle and bustle that Marmaris has to offer. To me, the location was just perfect.
I'll start with our arrival at 5am on a coach transfer which was ridliclious (united blue....NEVER use it!!) this had nothin to do with Club Sunsmile but i was in a whole panic about checking in because we were arriving way later than I had stated as our arrival time. Anyway, we were greeted by reception staff who took our passports and checked us in. (don't worry they give the passports back the next day lol) Air Con was £60 for the 2 weeks. I was a bit disappointed with the air con set up. The only room with air con was the bedroom, which I can see the point as it's the room u need it most for sleeping. But this meant we were constantly in the bedroom. I'd of liked to have been able to come up to my room and maybe eat a snack or something, but we didn't as it was too warm to sit in the living room. Also, you were unable to keep your air con on all day. Now I know that's to help with the electricity etc but again it's nice to come back to your room when it's so hot to be greeted with cold air lol I prob wouldn't of thought of this as a problem if I had of been on the higher floors and could of left my balcony door open, but we were on ground level and I didn't want to risk it. (altho the area seemed absolutely safe, but u never know) I had made a request to have a room on the first or second floor with a pool view. And this request was given to me as best they could. Was my fault really as I thought 1st floor might of been up a level lol
Onto the room. Again, from my research I wanted somewhere first and foremost....clean, which this place was. couldn't fault anything there. The cleaners were in every morning to empty bins and in to do a quick tidy. There were some mornings when we hadn't made it up yet, but they came in emptied bins and left towels etc if needed. I will say that sometimes they weren't too quiet coming in, and an odd loud close of a door would make you jump. It's not really a complaint or negative point, it's just to be aware. At the end of the day we probably should of been up enjoying the morning sunshine instead of still asleep lol
The only slight negative point I have about the rooms were the beds. I thought the sun loungers were more comfortable to sleep on lol We even talked about moving the sofa bed into the bedroom to see if it was any softer. Again, it's not a big complaint or negative point, but I like to have a nice bed on holidays lol But it didn't put me off.
The staff were amazing!!! i had made a comment that they just eat, sleep, breath, enthusiasm! NOTHING seemed to be a problem! Sergi was the life and soul of the bar area in the evenings, making sure everyone was ok and enjoying themselves. He seemed to have a way about him to 'connect' with each set of guests he met. The other 2 staff members (didn't get their names) were just as good, everyone was fantastic!!! There was a buzz one night that someone had complained to the manager about a staff member, and while everyone was only hearing bits of what happened, everyone seemed so shocked because it was ridliclious as this person would of bent over backwards to help the guests. I guess some people just can't be pleased.
The pool was quite deep, there is no 'shallow' end as the whole pool is the same depth, I'm 5ft 5 and I managed to be able to stand on my tip toes with my head above water lol I could see how this would pose a problem for children or guests who can not swim.
On to the area.....
Little Chef is a gem of a place. The food is great, but it's the staff who make it. Never got any of the guy's names but they would say hello every day we'd pass by....'hello lovely couple' lol. Now i know half the time they are trying to get you in, but they were genuine. A simple.....'we'll come in another night' was enough and they continue on with a different conversation. The evening we were leaving we had our final dinner there, and when we paid the bill and said good bye, one of them came running after us to wish us a safe journey and hoped we enjoyed our holiday, shocked our hand and was so genuine!! It was so refreshing because all you seem to hear about Turkish men is how they can be sleazy etc. I have to say, as a woman who was kinda worried about it, it was such a warm and friendly place!! Of course there are going to be a few who you have to be weary of, but that's everywhere lol
Ibiza is another great restaurant. The food was amazing, we got steak I think it was called something Provençal. And OMG!! We went back another night just to get it again lol Mad boys was another great one, as was the Great Corner Steak House. Their steaks were the best!! We were told it was the first restaurant in that strip.
As with any holiday places restaurant people are constantly trying to get you into their business. We didn't find this annoying, but could see where people might be put off. We just simply would walk on and say nicely that we already ate. They don't hassle you much after that, although they will then try to explain their 'specials' and give you a leaflet. This can be annoying if you top to take one from every single restaurant you pass lol We usually said we'd come back another night, and we were being honest because we usually would do that. And funny thing is they will remember your face lol
Think that sums all up. We will definitely be back the next time we go to turkey. I would say I'm very well travelled and have been to absolute loads of places, from 5 star resorts to the budget places and I can say hand on my heart I would recommend this hotel and area to anyone who asked my advice on where to go in Turkey.
Due to the air con only in the bedroom, which I think is the case everywhere in Turkey, choose a roo...
