The Andarax Hotel is in Aguadulce, halfway between Almeria itself and Roquettas de Mar. I booked the hotel for a 3 night break as I liked the name of the place which translates into English as 'sweet water', it is worth noting that the photo of the hotel which appears on all the booking sites is taken from a very favourable angle and the hotel is in reality quite a way from the sea! It is over a cinema and a hairdressers and on the corner of a main junction of the busy through road although even with the windows open the traffic was not a problem.
The hotel staff were very helpful but I was glad I speak a bit of Spanish as their English is a bit on the sparce side, but after all this is in a very Spanish part of Almeria.
We stayed 'room only' so I cannot comment on the food but there were several restaurants close by and even more at the harbour which is about a 15 minute walk away.
The area had very little in the way of amenities but the promenade and the beach were immaculately clean and if you wanted a quiet beach holiday in a cheap hotel (I booked through the Bancotel site) this would be OK.
Our room had new beds and furniture but the bathroom had not been refitted for many years, the water was piping hot no matter what time of day but the amount and size of the towels was a bit on the stingy side! The rooftop pool is only just bigger than a plunge pool regardless of the view on the photographs and the whole area although clean was rather tired looking.
We spent most of the time in Roquettas de Mar about 12 miles away (thankfully we had the car) and would try to stay there next time we visit the area rather than at Aguadulce.
The Andarax on the whole was clean and comfortable but I am glad I made the effort to search the internet and pay the minimum, had I booked direct with the hotel I would have paid over 25 euros more per night than I did and I wouldn't have been very happy at that price!!
