“Artistic mountain homebase in every way”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 February 2012

In returning here after a five year intermezzo, my warm memories still appeared to be nothing but real. For the artistic soul who also likes to art of gastronomy and welness, this simply is heaven.

We (two couples) stayed in two turm rooms on the 3rd floor. Simple but efficiënt rooms, furnished with nice wooden beams and natural stone floors. We were nicely surprised to see that the former (concrete) matresses were replaced by new ergonomic ones. The only thing to disturb our night peace now was too much alcohol (difficult to stay away from the excellent wine list and the cocktail list).

What makes this excellent hotel with all its amenities the jewl it is, is to our regards the very personal service. It starts with the Pramstrahler family saying hello every evening, over the very warm staff in the restaurant, to the very strongly opinioned but amusing Eva at the pianobar: we gladly followed her powerful advises on the apero drinks (an astounishing Sekt Arunda) aswel as the digestivs (forget the limoncello, this is the grappa land!).

We unfortunately just missed the wine tasting evening, but off course this gives as even more reasons to be back asap.

Room Tip: If you choose a turm room and are a light sleeper, do not choose the corner rooms: the side of the h...

“A pleasant discovery in the Alps -- will return again!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 January 2012

We got to Romantic Turm by chance: when I finally decided to book, all our usual Dolomites skiing hotels were already fully booked for the dates. The hotel is located in the middle of a picturesque Alps village, right by the old church on the main square. We got there by car on a snowy evening just after the New Year -- romantic indeed! The hotel is a real jewel -- the owner has put in it a lot of his soul and bright personality. To stay brief, I will list the advantages and disadvantages for the traveler, which make it different from other hotels in the area. The advantages definitely overweight. First, location. I was previously spoiled by an option of putting my ski just off the hotel lobby, and getting some traction from the ski-lift 10 meters further; when returning from skiing, shaking off my ski just in front of the hotel ski deposit. Not the case for Turm Hotel. To get to "business", you have to drive for some 10-15 minutes to the closest Siuzi ski-lift and to go up the mountain on Blue Eggs for some 20 minutes. If you got a car -- no problem, if not... Public bus has delays and irregularities. On the other end, the hotel is very close to Bolzano, which spares one from driving a couple of hours on serpantine roads, where chanes on tires are advisable at moments...
To compensate for the ski-lift distance (probably)-- Turm has developed an immaculate service and fantastic high level cuisine. You may stay there just for the cuisine and the SPA, and forget about everything else. Till now, Turm cuisine IS THE BEST I tried in the Alps region. All my family members, who have different tastes, agreed to that point. The service at restaurant is friendly and artistic at moments, a choice of wine is made with a lot of taste and knowledge. The financial side seems fair for the quality you receive. One last drawback -- which theoretically could be corrected with relatively small investment from the hotel: the WiFi. Internet is not avalable in the room, only in the reception area. You discover the hard reality only after you try a couple of hours, getting passwords from the reception and playing with your s Vodaphone modem, wich would not work either. I do not know the reason why they do not care, but I already saw several Italian classy hotels whit WiFi in the lobby only. Turm among them. So, if you are not dependent on Internet, like I am, you probably would not notice. Besides that sad inconvenience, it is a truly fine place.

“Splendid hotel, excellent location”

Staying at Romantik Hotel Turm is like staying in an art gallery. There are thousands of drawings and paintings on the wall, inclusing Picasso, Dali and Chirico. We enjoyed every moment of our stay, not only because of the art work but because of the brilliant overall experience.

The hotel is a bit weird because it's located in different buildings, including some historic ones. Some are connected, some are not, some are on the same level, some are not (the hotel is situated on a hill close to the town church)... It's easy to get lost but there's always someone from the staff who will help you out.

The hotel staff is extremely welcoming and helpful. They all speak German and Italian; the receptionists, as well as lots of other staff members, can also help you out in English.

We were give the choice between two different rooms, one in the historic part or one in the new building where the restaurant, the spa and the garage are located. We chose the latter one, with a luxurious bathroom, a nice sitting area, a terrace with view on the mountains and a big double bed. The bed was higher than usual because there was a third bed underneath it but that seemed to be an exception.

The decoration of the rooms is the same as the rest of the hotel, a combination of traditional elements (lost of wood) and modern ones (like the carpets).

The hotel has a relatively big pool that is partly covered, partly open air. It connects with the (excellent) spa that specialises in local treatments such as a hay bath, a wine bath, a salt cave or treatments with apples.

The breakfast was great with lots of variety, fresh fruits, all kinds of coffee... You could even slice your own Italian ham and they have a mobile egg station to prepare your omelet at your table. In the evening, the breakfast room doubles as a gastronomic restaurant with the same friendly staff. The food was great. We had a 5-course surprise menu with adapted wines. The owner leads the kitchen and came out to have a talk with of all of the guests.

In case you want to eat out: the "city center" offers some possibilities and is a mere 4 minutes walk away.

The only downsides we could think of: the wifi is only available in the common areas and the elevators are extremely slow.

“Unusual, exceptional and very personal”

We stayed at this hotel for 4 nights and enjoyed it toroughly. we opted for a comfort suite, in peticulair the Wagenhaus suite/Carriage suite. Upon arrival we checked in at the tiny reception and the young woman in local dress showed us straight to the room. Through a small vaulted room onto a small terraced herbgarden, down some steps along the old castle wall bordering the church. On the left we saw the outdoor swimming area with a sweeping view of the valley and to the towering 'Schlern' mountaintop. There was a square stone tower to our right with steps leading up to a iron gate. Behind that a solid wooden door with a very old and massive looking lock gained us acces to the suite. Crossing the threshold I stood there flabbergasted. Timetravelled. To the left there was a small wooden room, a 'stube' dating back to the 13th century. It was dark and low and full of old paintings of madonnas, saints and hunting scenes. In the corner a unpolised wooden table was surrounded by narrow benches and small stools. A cupboard containing old ceramics and a simple white leather sofa complimented the dark wooden walls in this ancient room. Beyond it a kitchen was decorated with copper pots and pans.
From the hallway a equally old wooden staircase brought us to the next level. Underneath the pointed square roof lay a completely with modern bedroom and open planned bathroom. Bare wooden roofbeams with white pannels between them hoovered over the lightflooded space underneath. Diagonaly from the far left corner a free standing highly modern bathtube crossed the room. On the back wall stood a double bed with a large white leather headboard.
Next to it a walk-in closet brought enough space for our many suitcases and bags to be unpacked. On the rightside next to the top of the stairs a open planned bathroom with freestanding washbassin, square toilet and bidet (both very designed and very uncomfortable) lead to a wonderful glassed-in shower.
Back downstairs, beyond the stairs, was a very small bedroom (larger then harry potters cupboard underneath the stairs) for a child. Or in our case the empty suitcases and bags.

The hotel itself is not a castle but consists of two towers glued together at different levels, so all gets very confusing when riding elevators or finding your way around. Part of the charm, it is.
The Spa is very nice. Over several levels and levels inbetween you find your way to the steamroom which today has apple aroma, tomorrow pear, the day after....and so on. We loved the steamroom with the branches a needle-tree on the floor to walk over. Special also is the salt cave lighted with candles where you rest on beds placed between steppingstones above saltwater.

At the restaurant breakfast is good with some good regional products like cheeses, honey and bread from nearby farms and local producers. Nice is the eggs being made to order right at your table. Service is quick and very friendly.
For dinner there are 4 rooms to choose from, all served from the same kitchen with the same menu. The TurmStube and ZwirnStube are the most romantic ones. The large one has the wonderful views.
The food is of good quality and variety. The chef is an energetic man with interesting ideas and has work hard to find back old recipes of the region and making them into wonderful food fit for today. We have enjoyed every single dish, but the highlights were the risottos, the old local 'Kuchlkastl' dishes and the 'Strudel and cheese' dessert for which we had to go down to the cellers to be served different kind of autentic backed pies of either apple, nuts, etc. For the cheeses we went down one more level in the cellar to rooms where between the ancient walls the collections of wines were lit by a mass amount of candles, and a large cheeseboard awaited us. This special desert only takes place on saturdays.

Do not hesitate to go here. Do not hesitate to take a suite, it is worth it and not that expensive as in other places. The other suites we saw are mainly the modern white version with beautiful wooden floors and pieces of contemporary art. The Turm Suite looked impressive too.

“Stayed before, will be back!”

we knew the hotel from a stay a number of years back and had appreciated the class and location of this family-run house. Voels, as the town is known in the local German language, is a little village high up in the mountains, about 1/2 hours drive from Bozen.
The hotel is an old structure built into a hill and renovated and updated continually. It is certainly not a cheap and easy thing to maintain it but it is worth the efforts. No rooms are equal in size or cut, furnishings, views etc. What a pleasure compared to the box-like structures of modern hotels. Ok, so there are some short comings like no air condition, at least not in our room/floor and room size can be "minimalistic".
The owner's family has collected art since quite some generations and these pieces are everywhere in the hotel. Again, no hundred print drawings, the same in every room.
The place is just classy.
The food at the restaurant is really good, the owner is the also the chef.
The service could see some improvement, the waiters were not always on top of things, to say it politely.
One thing that is really annoying is the service at the hotel bar. Brash ladies serve you not-too-cheap drinks measured to the millimeter, trying to maximize the bar profits and not the pleasure of the patrons.
There is certainly room for improvement in the overall management of the house.
But overall it is a real jewel. We'll be back.

Room Tip: Ask for a room in the tower, third floor. They are supposed to have AC.
