“Addicted to the Hotel Ravesi”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 January 2012

Since 2008 I've been been addicted to the hotel Ravesi always spending there part of my summer holidays. I've been there with friends, family, girlfriend and alone... always a different experience and always worth it. The Ravesi family manages to perfectly combine professionalism with personal touch. The rooms are simple, comfortable and very clean. Breakfast at Ravesi is one of my favourite moment, at 8am sun is already up but the island is still quite. Sitting outside by the infinity pool over looking the sea and seeing the shape of Panarea, Stromboli and Lipari while eating daily made home-made cakes (by la signora Carla and Fracesca) is a unique experience. At evening, in August, the Hotel Ravesi becomes the centre of attention because it engages artists (singers, musicians etc...) that make their show surrounded by candle lights and moonshine while a young crowd, also coming from other parts of Salina, enjoys drinking wine or cocktails (mojito made with the mint grown in the Ravesi garden is delicious!). While the hotel structure and positioning is a key element but some sort of a natural "natural gift"; the other think to consider when thinking Ravesi is the involvement of the Family (Signora Carla with her sons and daughter and daughter in law) in the management of the hotel as well as the role of the support staff led by Giuliana always smiling and willing to go the extra mile to help (booking of restaurants, motorbikes, boats, providing advise on what's going on and what to do) and making sure you have a true holiday is invaluable. Finally, my only advise to the management is not to change the towels every day but only when clients leave them on the floor.

“Wonderful Experience!!”

Last summer I spent 5 wonderful days in this great and warming hotel!! The Ravesi family are charming hosts that are always happy to help the guests with everything.
The rooms are spacious, calm, confortable and well decorated, with a breath taking view of the Eolian islands. In fact, that are many, many great things in this hotel, but my favorite things were the swimming pool and garden area!! I strongly recommend this hotel.

“Delightful hotel with great views”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 November 2011

Stayed here for 3 nights from 1 October in a deluxe room. Room was on the first floor (18 steps) with a Juliet balcony at the side which gave views of the sea down the coast i.e. not directly out to sea. Room was quite large with a tiled floor and very comfortable. Bathroom was also very large with a good shower.

Breakfast was a cold buffet on the patio next to the infinity pool. There was a choice of 3 cereals, 2 juices, cold meats, cheese, pastries, bread and home made jam, some fruit and hard boiled eggs.

Check-in/check-out was efficient and the hotel staff were very friendly and helpful.

Hotel is in Malfa which whilst being only about 7 kilometres from Santa Marina (the main ferry/hydrofoil port from Milazzo) is about a 15 to 20 minute trip via taxi and a little longer on the local bus. As the local bus appears to run less frequently out of peak holiday periods we found ourselves catching a taxi most of the time to travel to Santa Marina. Cost of taxis is a negotiated affair and appears to be euro20 for two people and up to euro30 for 4 people. Unfortunately we arrived at 8-30pm on the first evening (caught the 7-00pm hydrofoil from Milazzo) and found that Santa Marina was fairly deserted - definitely no buses around. We caught a taxi with another couple that we met at the wharf and ended up negotiating euro25 cost in total. Cost may go up in summer when there are substantially more tourists.

Infinity pool at the hotel is great and you do get very panoramic views of Panarea and Stromboli on clear days. Unfortunately we found that Stromboli was covered by cloud and smoke during our stay and we did not see any lava eruptions during the day or night from the Hotel on Salina.

Beach below Hotel Ravesi is comprised of quite large rocks and is a good 15 to 20 minute walk down and then the same time back up the hill. Water though is very clear and inviting.

It may have been the time of the year but there was not a lot happening at the Malfa piazza (just about 50 metres from the hotel) either in the day or night and the whole place (Malfa) was exceptionally quiet - great for a peaceful break but with limited options for evening meals.

We met up with friends at the Hotel and as there were 4 of us we rented a car (motor bikes were also available) for the day from the local garage (about 5 minutes walk away) for euro55 plus petrol (you are required to state up front how much petrol you want as the car is empty when you rent it and the owner gets to keep what petrol is left when you return it. We went all over the island and would not have used euro10 worth. Our local car rental company man tried to talk us into buying euro20 worth of fuel). With the car we were able to drive all over Salina, not hard, and stop off at some magnificient swimming spots, non better than Pollara where the water was an amazing colour of blue, immaculately clear and fish were swimming around us. Unfortunately though the beach is closed at Pollara (dangerous with rock falls) so you are required to walk down to a section of the rocks opposite the beach (about a 10 minute walk down/then back again up from the car park) and enter the water from the rocks. As there are no waves to speak of we did not find it difficult to enter or get out of the water.

Beach at Rinella, other side of the island to Malfa, was not as attractive and we sank into the black sand as we walked along it and had to negotiate rocks under the water as we entered and left the water. Water also did not appear to be as clear as other spots around the island. This could be due to the fact that ferries also dock at Rinella.

Lingua was also an excellent spot for swimming, granita and a couple of great restaurants.

We also took a boat trip to visit Panarea and Stromboli which was excellent. It left just before lunchtime and got back about 9-30pm after having drifted in the water off Stromboli in the evening to catch an up close view of the eruptions from the volcano. Amazing sight and you could hear the volcano rumbling. On the way to Stromboli we stopped at a number of different spots for a swim from the boat. The water was crystal clear and still pleasant even though it was early October. Highly recommend doing one of these boat trips - cost euro60 per person.

Will definitely return to Salina and Hotel Ravesi.

“Exceptional location and service”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 November 2011

I have stayed twice at the Hotel Ravesi on the island of Salina, with its very private position overlooking the sea and the islands of Stromboli and Panarea. It is a dream of a place, secluded, rambling, small enough to be intmate, clean, attractively furnished and designed, quiet and with easy access to the town square and busses. The staff is very, very gracious and helpful. I hope to go back again and again!

“Room with a View”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 October 2011

Hotel Ravesi was even better than expected. We had a lovely, spacious, immaculately clean room with a balcony overlooking the beautiful pool which look liked it flowed into the Mediterranean. Guiliana on reception speaks perfect English and was friendly and helpful. Lovely Carla, the owner and manager who didn't speak much English but we managed to communicate our feelings, was so welcoming to this beautiful property which has been in her family for over a hundred years. The breakfasts were local fresh produce with cakes and jams made by Carla herself. If we ever get back to Salina where my Grandfather was born, we would definitely stay at Hotel Ravesi again. Thank you to Carla & Guilana for making our stay so comfortable and enjoyable.
