We arrived after 11pm local time and we were met by Artemis (wife) who was smiling and very welcoming. She took us up to our 2 bed apartment and showed us the apartment right through. (Good English speaker). After a quick drink downstairs we retired to bed. The following morning we met Costas (the boss and husband to Artemis) again a very warm welcome and nothing was too much trouble and this was the theme throughout the whole of our 2 week stay. We were S/C and ate most of our meals in their Taverna downstairs and every meal was well presented and cooked beautifully which ended with the complimentary sweet and Raki.
Costas even took time out to run us 30 mins to a local monastary so I could light a candle in memory of my family.
We have been to the Greek islands on several occasions and to Crete 3 times now and we both agree this was by far one of the best relaxing holidays we have had.
The apartments/Taverna was clean and well presented and right in the middle of the village and everyone we encountered were very friendly and hospitable.
You can get the bus from the village to Heraklion port or even the airport for only 3 euros which annoyed us somewhat because the late hour we arrived it cost us 25 euro's ina taxi from the airport. The buses to Ammoudara is the No 6 should you need it from the airport and from Heraklion the bus stop is outsid the big cinema opposite the main square.
Yammas if you choose to go relax and enjoy.
