“Ok for budget beach holiday”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 September 2011

A friend and I stayed here for 3 nights during a driving tour of Croatia.
Pros: There is a private beach (pebble/concrete, as are most Croatian swimming areas). On-site parking is available. The kitchenette provides basic utensils. Both bed and sofabed were comfortable, and the AC worked decently.
Cons: Parking can be up/down 20-30 stairs from the apartment. Some apartments have no view (not just no sea view--ours looked into trees 6 m away). Some apartments (they were not all built at the same time) are dated and musty-smelling. The studio apartment (with a bed and a sofabed) is fairly cramped. Reception is only open from 8 am onward, and is a 5-min walk from some of the apartments.
Split can be difficult to drive into, since the historic centre is pedestrian-only. The local bus is infrequent, and the highway is very busy. There are no nearby amenities except access (for a fee) to the 5-star Meridien down the beach. Otherwise you need to drive several km for restaurants or markets.

“The 'Not' Beach Apartments”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 August 2011

Really, really disappointing experience. After reading the reviews on tripadvisor and looking at the photographs that were posted online we decided to book 5 nights at Lavica for a family of two adults and 2 kids. Firstly, be warned the photographs shown online on various sites including booking dot com in no way represent the apartments. Where the pictures depict a new, ‘funky’ apartment, the furniture, entertainment system and decor was actually old, out of date, worn out and in some cases broken. In fact, we found it a very depressing environment to stay in, so depressing we cut our 5 days short and headed up to Split. During our stay, the apartment became known as the ‘Not’ apartment due to all of the things it doesn’t have...here’s our list. It does not have an oven, grill, washing machine (or access to communal washing machines). The bathroom does not have enough hot water to fully shower an adult and isn’t big enough for more than one person at a time. It does not have very clean blankets and the beds and ‘leather’ sofa (foam and ply wood) are not comfortable to sleep on. The decor is not very nice with flaking paint and broken patio chairs. It does not have a safe so you have to carry `valuables around. Last but not least it is not that clean. In terms of the area as well, we feel the pictures are misleading. Rather than a quaint village, think one busy road costa del sol without many bars and restaurants, don’t think you can stroll along with young children. The only positive; the beach area down by the marina is lovely, try the Leonis seafood restaurant.

“Really Nice, Excellent value for money”

we stayed here at the end of our Croatian trip for 3 days, basically for a base to get in and out of Split. the apartment was excellent, clean, tidy and staff where very helpful, for example out loo seat was broken when we got there so we reported it to the receptionist within minuites the repair man was there with a new seat!!!! excellent service, you would have waited for days in greece for that, I think that maybe some people there where not to happy, we where ok as we had an outside apartment but some had apartments towards the middle of this little complex and the balconey had no view, we looked over the tennis courts which was great, luck of the draw I supose, but inside you could not fault them, all new equipment, pots and pans, etc very good seating area outside superb beds, found it rather amusing they had put a blanket on it as well as sheets, it was 28c outside not quite UK weather yet...
It was a difficult to find and quite confusing at 1st, once you know where it is, it is fine. it took us a while to figure out we should be driving into the hotel through the secure gate, then around to the apartment reception, then back out on to the road again and back in through a hole in the hedge made into a driveway to get to your own apartment parking, once you have done it the 1st time it is easy, parking is a bit tight though, especially if you don't drive left handers often as there is no turn point when the apartments are full so you either end up revesing in (not from the road) and down the drop or revesing out, no hardship really just worth being aware of, I turned my car around in the daytime when most residents are out ready for the night time.
Driving into Split is......... well interesting to say the least, worth it though, the old town is really nice and at night they have live bands/singers on the harbour, you don't seem to pay for parking on a Sunday, however there are not a lot of shops open on the Sunday, so this is an ideal time to do some recon. From the apartment to the old town in Split is about a 15 minuite drive and is quite well signed even though an Austrian guy said he could not find the centre even though he followed the centre signs, we found it quite easy.
Would we stay here again - yes.
Would we recomend it to friends - yes
Oh yes bakery across the road does some wicked strudel
It has no amenities as such, but the hotel next door has PLENTY, and you can use them if you wish with 30% discount I think the lady on reception said, we didn't use them but they did look VERY nice indeed, we used the beach a little but found the sea very cold up this end compared to the peninsular.
Interesting point though off subject, Europe-Car UK told us we would need a cross border pass at 10Euros, to get the car through Bosnia, the rep at Dubrovnik aiport said no, the rep was right we sailed stright through the borders twice, yet Europe-Car tried to charge us on booking for the pass, we told them we would buy it over there from the rep, not sure what they would be like if you where going to Mostar though!

“Perfect!”

The Beach Apartments Lavica is a compound of villas, each housing 4 apartments. The compound is very quiet, green, and well maintained.
We stayed in a studio - comes with a small kitchen (with all utensils for basic cooking and eating in) a dining table and chairs, a double bed and a pull-out single bed. There is also a TV in the room with several satellite channels and an excellent air conditioning unit. The balcony is decent size, with a table and chairs. Everything is quite new.
The apartments are 6km outside beautiful Split. It's easy to get into town - there is a bus stop right outside the compound. There are a few restaurants nearby, a bakery and a Konzum supermarket - all within walking distance.
One of the best things about the place however is the fact that they have a special deal with the Le Meridien Lav next door and guests of the Lavica get a 30% discount when paying to use their pool and spa. We paid 700 kn for 5 days (£85) and it is totally worth it. The Lav has a beautiful infinity pool with lots of space around for sun loungers, private beach, towel service, an indoor pool, saunas & steambaths etc. We could not tear ourselves away from the pool though.
We are definitely going back!
