“5 star hotel - 3 star service”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 February 2012

We stayed at this hotel in a Brass suite during our vacation in january 2012. We were very impressed with the decor and the nice feel of the hotel. This place is stunning, and the decoration inspirational.

Also the breakfast is very nice, both for kids and adults. We really enjoyed that. The bread is fantastic.

However - the staff were not very serviceminded, and there was none of that "little extra" which usually is standard at a 5-star hotel. Also we had problems in one of the toilets of the suite. Someone clearly had been sick in there, and the there hadn't been cleaned proberly, so the smell was awfull. Despite of several calls to the reception, and visits from the cleaning staff, the smell stayed in the room for the duration of our stay. In no way where we compensated for this inconvienience.

Also we found it strange, that there was no "info-book" in the room, explaining about the little things, such as how to call the reception. No information about roomservice (dont even know if they have it), no information about the hotel in general.

When we spoke to the staff at the reception desk, they seemed like they did not really care if we could use the information or not. We had problems with the parking facillities - but was met with a ignorant behavior, when we spoke to the staff.

The hotel still gets 3 stars for the decor, the surrondings and the atmosphere, wich is very nice - so if you like stunning surrondings and can manage without the service, I can certainly recommend Copperhill mountain lodge.

Dear appeline,

Thank you for taking the time to post this review - your comments help us to improve. We are happy that you enjoyed the hotel décor and our breakfast, but apologize for the lacking service that you experienced.

Of course there should have been an info book in your room. We will improve our routines to make sure the info book is not missing in any room.

And of course you should feel that you are met with interest and engagement from every member of the staff, at every time. Obviously this time we failed and we are very sorry for that. We will work even harder with our service training programme to accomplish this.

Best of wishes - and welcome back in the future.

“Amazing Hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 February 2012

Having just returned from this excellent hotel we cannot wait to go back! Reception and house keeping staff could not do enough for us.

I do agree with the comments that the food model is not quite right yet. What is available in the hotel is quite limited and it is expensive to get into town. Also the staff involved in serving food were not as efficient as other staff in the hotel. Our stay would have been significantly enhanced if there was a constant (or at least half-hourly) shuttle to Are Bjornen and Are between 9am and 9pm.

However as a family we enjoyed every aspect of this hotel.

Dear GruffaloMum,

Thank you for sharing your views. We are happy to hear that you were pleased - and thank you for your comment about the shuttle bus. We are considering an extended shuttle bus service and hopefully we can offer this next ski season.

We hope to see you again in the future. Until then - all the best!

“Wonderful service and attention to detail”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

My other half and I just came back from a long weekend in Åre. Its not very often that I feel the need to make hotel recommendations, but this occasion was an exception. What put this hotel in a different league compared to other was the great service provided by all the members of staff that we came into contact with. Nothing was ever too much trouble and they really made this feel like 'home away from home', albeit a very exclusive one! This is a luxury weekend and certainly not for the budget traveller, but paying that bit extra was worth every penny. most luxury hotels feel elitist and ostentatious, whereas Copperhill feels inviting, warm and cosy. Well worth the 7 hours drive from Stockholm for anyone looking for a ski holiday away from the rowdy alps!

Room Tip: There are a few rooms available for those with dogs like us, but book early. Dogs are made to feel a...

“Expensive kindergarten lacking decent service”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 January 2012

This hotel is a member of Design hotels, however lacks the standards peculiar to this chain. We have stayed at the Christmas/New Year period, which might partly explain the poor service and encountered problems.
The hotel was almost fully booked, families with kids below 10 accounting to roughly 90 percent of all the guests.
The correspondence with the hotel was below standards; they would not respond to the mails before you would send the reminder mail.
The reservation in the system of the hotel was not correct, so we had to send a correct version upon check-in to them via email.
The room in reality is very different to the impression you are getting looking at the web-site because photoshopped and shown from the best angles without scruples.
The main problem of the hotel though is efficiency of the stuff working there. Every request you would need to repeat at least twice, since they forget the first sentence, if you make two. Asking for the bottled water was a huge challenge. Apparently they store none, and finding two bottles lasted around 2 hours, with us calling the reception twice, and twice going downstairs.
The bar downstairs is very nice to sit after skiing in case you find any space, since it is full. Ordering the drinks and food you would need to do at the bar unless you want to wait around half an hour that somebody is coming to you. Alcoholic drinks at around 10 euros per one, be it a glass of wine or a cocktail. This is the starting point. The quality of food at the bar is excellent though.
Breakfast in terms of selection is nothing to complain about, the quality of scrambled eggs is under the question. Fresh orange juice is do-it-yourself, with a line of 5 people to squeeze, and all the children touching the juice machine from inside out and all over, so that you would think twice, if this is the very juice you want to have.
The noise level at the breakfast makes you think it is rather happening evening than early morning.
Since around 5 kids of different families are screaming at the same time, none of the families would bother to do anything about it. Why care?
New Year dinner was funny. Since I am allergic to the seafood, that was communicated 3!times to the reception and restaurant (the dinner is preset, of course). Nevertheless, the seafood starter appeared there, as if nothing was earlier said. As the waitress disappeared to exchange, another waiter has brought us desserts! )). The service is a complete mess!
Massages at the Spa were nice, however the public spa area and the changing rooms were beyond any words. No-one was cleaning the dressing rooms, there were tons of dirty towels lying there together with half-bitten apples. Honestly, being to over 50 hotels worldwide (not only 5 star), I have never seen anything like that.
The hotel seems to be understaffed with professionals. If it positions itself to be in the Design Hotels chain, there should be also some standards to be kept, not only the price.
Are by itself is a wonderful ski-area, I would gladly return there again, however I am not sure if I would again come to Copperhill, because being a good design hotel takes more than a couple peaces of art and premium prices, it starts with the right people working there.
PS. The hotel is located at quite some distance from the downtown. So if you do not want to eat every evening at the hotel, please add 50 euros at least for the taxi to go there and back.

Room Tip: 5th floor has good views, ask for not noisy room though

Dear AdventurerHamburg,

Thank you for sharing your experiences. Your comments, especially the negative ones, help us to improve.

We are sorry that you were not informed that a lot of families are staying at the hotel during Christmas. We are currently looking into how we can communicate this in a better way on our website, since it is the same during Easter and the Swedish Winter Break (weeks 8-9). However during all other times of the year, I assure you that our hotel has a much higher average age.

Also I understand that you experienced several issues of substandard service during your stay. I know that the hotel was understaffed for a period - which is the explanation, but definitely not an excuse. We can only apologize for not meeting up to your (and our own) standards this time, and do all we can to improve.

Once again – thank you for your feedback.

“Not meeting expectations nor price...at all !”

Very modern and design hotel but the service is as poor as the weather (except reception)... The English website differs from the Swedish ones (one tv out of 2 for a 3 bedroom suite). Menus in the restaurants offer very little choices and service is more than low but bills very high. The housekeepers do not know how to use a vacuum cleaner and just poorly do the beds...the hotel is far from everything but do not provide any continuous shuttle to Åre (you need a car). In conclusion, this is nothing of a 5*hotel and we are more than disappointed. First but last time of a 8 nights stay.

Room Tip: Wooden structure that can be very noisy... Ask for a room in the numbers 40 +

Dear guest,

Thank you for your comments – they help us to improve.

I personally apologize for the incorrect information on our website. This was changed as soon as the inaccuracy was known to me.

Concerning your comments about menu choices and housekeeping, they will be carefully considered and monitored, as a part of our constant quality improvement process.

However, when it comes to the location - there is not much we can do ... No matter what we do, we will still be stuck with ski-in/ski-out access to Åre's vast ski slope system, close to the nicest crosscountry tracks and with the best view in the whole of Åre. Well, that is what we think – but I sincerly respect and understand that you have other priorities :-)

All the best
