My friend & I wanted a week away at the last minuet, somewhere hot, not to lively! I found a place in Rhodes looked ok read all the reviews perfect, asked my friend to book it as I was busy at work, simple.....well you would have thought so....... she booked Rhodes, but not the location or hotel I had chosen, & it was more money....so it didnt start well. I read the reviews they were not good, rural location, low flying planes, bed linen not changed, watch out for the snakes on the way to the beach!!!! there were some good ones but not enought to make me choose this holiday.
When we arrived in Rhodes at midnight after sitting on the tarmac at Gatwick for an hour & 15mins we were delayed due to a 'Greek air traffic control strike' we found our shuttle bus (which we were advised not to book as it was more expensive than a taxi, however lucky we did as there was a taxi strike) and off we went, 1st people got dropped off nice hotel good location, I knew we were close to the airport so we were next, as the driver went off the beaten track into the what appeared to be the back of beyond the driver suddenly stopped shouted Margaret Studios & got off to get our luggage, I was almost embarrassed to get up and go in, the place was in total darkness standing alone in the wilderness. I asked the driver how we get in (as the door looked like it was locked) he replied 'Im only the driver' got back in the shuttle and drove off. OMG we tried the door & it opened, and we walked into what appeared to be 'Bates Motel' I was not impressed by my surroundings to say the least. We eventually found the owner and were taken to our room, it was basic, clean, over looking the pool, bed sheets were clean, shower was powerfull, air con worked (this was an extra cost, no big deal 5 euros a day, but essential) door locked, so we unpacked and went to bed, hoping it would all look better in the cold light of day.
Yes it was better in the daylight, not so rural after all, the food in the village was excellent, we ate Greek all the time (we asked Joanne on the snack bar for recommendations and she didnt disapoint) no dodgy tummies, good service and not expensive,
Places to eat: Basillis Vasillis (up the side road by the big pharmacy on the main road) we had slouvacki chicken..sat with all the locals in the middle of the road, it was great.
Yannis grill house, sat in the square again with all the locals, Zorbas on the main road (had their Stifaedo), Sky bar for cocktails, Tommies bar for a late one. We also went on a day trip to Symi Island....wow it was beautiful, we chose a resturant on the waters edge and ate the most amazing seafood, our most expensive meal but worth every penny, people were jumping into the water then coming back to their table to finish their meal...a must have experience
Anyway....down to 'should you book these apartments', the reception area was very dated, rooms were clean, 5 mins to beach one way (no snakes) beach not the best as it was advertised as pebbles....more like stones, (I would advise you wear shoes in the water because the stones hurt your feet) 5 mins to town the other way, food at snack bar was good and not expensive Joanne who works there was very helpfull, pool looked clean (we went to the beach every day) ample sunbeds, yes the planes were very low flying however they mainly flew during the day so it was not a problem, if you want basic in a lovely village with lovely locals (we were told that Kremasti is the safest village on the lsland) excellent food, close to the beach a bus ride away from Rhodes Town then the Margaret Studios are the place to book
