“An excellent hotel with a great beach and excellent service”

Overall, this hotel is very nice. First of all, the hotel is very clean and although dated, almost entirely renovated which makes it very comfortable (rooms, beach chairs, etc...). The beach is fabulous with small waves and a beautiful sand. Good for swimmers and also very nice for kids who like to play in (small) waves. There are always beach chairs and they are all brand new and very comfortable. Also at the beach, they rent various beach equipment and they are all new or well maintained. Maybe the best of all though is that there is a cocktail reception every night at the restaurant which lounge chairs right by the beach. Very pleasant way to have the "apero" before dinner. The only 2 things I would say could be improved is the food (which is not bad but could be a little bit better) and the French-speaking service which is sometime lacking. That being said, if you do not speak French, you can get excellent service in English. Finally, the price is very acceptable for the quality you get. Same applies for the food which is very reasonable (E.g. 27 Euro for the buffet with wine included). A last point (sorry, this is getting long), all the rooms in the main hotel have a very nice sea view.

“Incredible Relaxing Resort”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2011

I just returned from a weeks vacation on Jan 27, and I must repeat the same opening comments that a fellow reviewer posted a year ago about this resort. He stated that " I am not sure how I ended up here, but I am sure glad that I did". My thoughts exactly!

I am a single unilingual English speaking Canadian who had some rather large reservations about being able to communicate with anyone during my weeks stay. Thank goodness for Sweden (and Denmark) as the staff and guests from these countries spoke impecible English. I might add that unilingual French speaking guests may have some problems with communication in their own language. However the staff at Langley have many local Guadeloupians employed and their mother language is French so that should help.

I loved the facilities, the awsome beach with 24/7 crashing waves, and the weather. Speaking of the weather, be prepared at anytime for a 5 minute torrential downpour to break up an otherwise perfect day. The rain clouds are very sneaky on this Island.

As much as I loved what this resort had, I am more impressed with what this Island didn't have. It didn't have predatory timeshare salespeople harrassing you after you arrived at the airport. It didn't have aggressive staff trying to sell you some off resort packages and their was no one walking te beach tying to sell you junk. (Didn't miss you Cuba and Mexico)

The food was quite European and I am a bit of a fussy eater. I don't eat fish, lamb or the local creole dish of Goat. However there is always lots of excellent alternative dishes and I sure didn't have to worry about losing any weight.

I would advise anyone who wants complete relaxation in a beautiful resort to consider Langleys. I am certainly returning!

Psss.....Big Thanks to Mark (from Denmark) who is an exceptional waiter and all the other young staff who invited this Old Retired guy (me) to join them at their staff party. I had a blast.

“Relaxing place”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 January 2011

A large hotel that I guess can host up to 500 people, but its only at the breakfast and dinner buffet thart one notices how many people actually are there. Two loooong beaches, plenty of excursions, rooms spread around the area in both a hotel building and in nice bungalows with ocean view- makes this large place to seem smaller.
Most of the young staff are scandinavian - that makes the place a popular resort for swedes, so instead of practising french, one practices swedish.
The only problem the hotel has is the mess at the buffet at breakfast and dinner when hundreds of customers, including many children, have been messing with the food stations. It would be nicer if the buffet was served to the clients, as they are so many, thus leaving the buffet a bit more clean.

“Friendly atmosphere, nice staff, beautiful location, remote”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 July 2010

We spent two weeks at the langley Fort Royal, half board package. We stayed in one of the standard bungalows.

Location
The hotel is located on the Basse-terre which is the mountaineous one of the two main islands in Guadeloupe, and also the least exploited one from tourism point of view. Transfer time is some 45 - 60 minutes from the airport.

The location is immediately by the sea and the hotel has its own beach with golden sand. The hotel is located quite remotely with no other settlements to speak of in the neighborhood. The upside is that the place is really quiet with beautiful surroundings. The downside is that there are few, if any, food and drink alternatives within walking distance. I would definitely recommend renting a car to make most of your stay (Avis has an office at the hotel).

Now, this said, the hotel is really nice place to stay, it has all the facilities you would expect and several of Guadeloupe's best beaches are within 5-10 km. E.g. the Grande Anse beach.

Clientele
Vast majority of clientele is Scandinavians and French with some other nationalities represented; from families with kids to couples and parties over a wide range of ages.

Atmosphere
The staff (many young scandinavians in the low 20's) is extremely nice and helpful and seemed to care about customer satisfaction. The atmosphere is relaxed.

About the food:
The breakfast buffet offers all you need.
The half board with evening buffet is definitely recommended. Freshly cooked food, a good mix with a variety of international and creole dishes, salads, cheese, deserts...

The room:
Bungalow we stayed was newly renovated, clean and fresh, quite small but standard was good. with internet access, although quite limited bandwidth/speed.

Activities:
Quite many activities are arranged by the hotel; water sports, diving, activities for kids, tennis court etc. as well as excursions. Music live performances once or twice a week.

But again, I would recommend renting a car and exploring the island on your own.
