“Excellent location, friendly staff and great value”

We stayed here for two weeks in December: Just a fantastic location in the most beautiful area of the island Guadeloupe. Very friendly staff everywhere: from reception to restaurant. Their choice of activities on site are huge; from windsurfing to sailing with a laser boats and Hobie Cats. Also the choice of excursions are huge with helpful staff. We have stayed previously at the Club Med La Caravelle, but the resort Fort Royal was more appealing to us as the resort is situated in a rural beautiful and relaxing area and operates not like a circus.

“Isolated location, excellent value for the money.”

This hotel is situated on the western more mountaineous part of Guadeloupe and so its more cloudy and rainy than the flat eastern part. We did however get enough sun. The resort has several types of accommodation scattered in a parklike area. We stayed in the "main" hotel building situated on a peak out in the sea with a fabulous view over the bay. The bungalows are either along the beach but beware with a walking path in front no privacy, or up on the hillside on the northern non sunny side. We would recommend the hotelrooms instead and specially the rooms towards the bay that have the sun and the possibility to view a strunning sun set into the sea. The room was large, has air conditioning, good beds, a refrigerator with complimentary cold drinks on arrival. A small flatscreen television with a limited number of channels. The free wifi worked most of the days. The balcony is large with chairs and a table. The cleanliness of the bedclothing could be better. The bathroom had a shower modern design. The toilette is in a separate room with no wash baisin ! The hotel staff is mostly scandinavian and so are the guests. Only a few locals that speak french. We had half board including breakfast and dinner buffet. Plenty to choose from for dinner. Surprisingly good quality. The local dishes were the best different kind of fish, jerked goat, banana gratin for example. Wine is included but is horrible probably the worst wine I ve ever had. We noticed the staff filling up bottles with wine from almost empty bottles so they reuse the bottles and mix wine from opened bottles, a bit disgusting. The cakes and bakery product were excellent and seemed home made. Complimentary pre dinner drinks are served every day. The hotel is situated all on its own on the west coast with no close neighbours. The closest village is some 15 minutes away and has one small food store besides that there are pretty no shops or alternative restaurants close by. Dont miss to walk to the other beaches close by specially to the south passing the bungalows. These beaches are huge and almost empty of other people. Hotel beach is Ok and the pool area nice with plenty of sunbeds. There is no hotel bus to neighbouring towns so without a car you are pretty isolated. Its a good place to relax but no place if you want nightlife or shopping.

“An excellent hotel with a great beach and excellent service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 February 2011

Overall, this hotel is very nice. First of all, the hotel is very clean and although dated, almost entirely renovated which makes it very comfortable (rooms, beach chairs, etc...). The beach is fabulous with small waves and a beautiful sand. Good for swimmers and also very nice for kids who like to play in (small) waves. There are always beach chairs and they are all brand new and very comfortable. Also at the beach, they rent various beach equipment and they are all new or well maintained. Maybe the best of all though is that there is a cocktail reception every night at the restaurant which lounge chairs right by the beach. Very pleasant way to have the "apero" before dinner. The only 2 things I would say could be improved is the food (which is not bad but could be a little bit better) and the French-speaking service which is sometime lacking. That being said, if you do not speak French, you can get excellent service in English. Finally, the price is very acceptable for the quality you get. Same applies for the food which is very reasonable (E.g. 27 Euro for the buffet with wine included). A last point (sorry, this is getting long), all the rooms in the main hotel have a very nice sea view.

“Incredible Relaxing Resort”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2011

I just returned from a weeks vacation on Jan 27, and I must repeat the same opening comments that a fellow reviewer posted a year ago about this resort. He stated that " I am not sure how I ended up here, but I am sure glad that I did". My thoughts exactly!

I am a single unilingual English speaking Canadian who had some rather large reservations about being able to communicate with anyone during my weeks stay. Thank goodness for Sweden (and Denmark) as the staff and guests from these countries spoke impecible English. I might add that unilingual French speaking guests may have some problems with communication in their own language. However the staff at Langley have many local Guadeloupians employed and their mother language is French so that should help.

I loved the facilities, the awsome beach with 24/7 crashing waves, and the weather. Speaking of the weather, be prepared at anytime for a 5 minute torrential downpour to break up an otherwise perfect day. The rain clouds are very sneaky on this Island.

As much as I loved what this resort had, I am more impressed with what this Island didn't have. It didn't have predatory timeshare salespeople harrassing you after you arrived at the airport. It didn't have aggressive staff trying to sell you some off resort packages and their was no one walking te beach tying to sell you junk. (Didn't miss you Cuba and Mexico)

The food was quite European and I am a bit of a fussy eater. I don't eat fish, lamb or the local creole dish of Goat. However there is always lots of excellent alternative dishes and I sure didn't have to worry about losing any weight.

I would advise anyone who wants complete relaxation in a beautiful resort to consider Langleys. I am certainly returning!

Psss.....Big Thanks to Mark (from Denmark) who is an exceptional waiter and all the other young staff who invited this Old Retired guy (me) to join them at their staff party. I had a blast.
