“Rooms too hot and shower a nightmare”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 June 2009

Stayed in the general accommodation area of the Chateau not the chateau (unfortunately). Rooms are small and VERY HOT. Again, air conditioning that doesn't work. Shower was over bath and shower head located in bath. Very awkward and dangerous to shower as well as water going everywhere as no shower curtain or wall .... Rooms weren't quiet either. Tea and coffee facilities provided. Food at chateau VERY AVERAGE! Beds weren't overly comfortable - suppose you get what you pay for here!

“It is a castle”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 February 2009

This is one of those places that looks better in photos than it is. Not that it is bad but it is a couple of stars short of its four star listing. I had the Turpin room. It is scantily furnished in need of a renovation. The room was hot in February and I had the large window wide open. It was quiet outside. Inside, however, sound travels between the floors. It might be quite a hot stay mid-summer. The restaurant was closed so no comment other than a basic 14 Euro breakfast the next morning. The Orangerie is the main block of rooms a wee walk from the castle, but there was nothing to suggest they would be a better stay. If you want an inexpensive stay in a castle-like hotel and do not need any extras it is quite OK for Euro100/night.

“Quite Nice, Restaurant more so than hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 January 2009

We got to stay in the chateau which was a treat, because they weren't too busy. The rooms and bathroom was very large, however a little tired feeling. It needs a bit of a facelift and the rooms weren't so clean. However the restaurant made up for it! The evening meal was amazing. Breakfast one morning was just bread and jam. The next morning was a continental buffet. Strange they were both so different. The staff were quite friendly, spoke very good english. The location wasn't the best. You really need to drive anywhere to get dinner, if you aren't going to eat at the hotel restaurant.

“Staying in a castle is an awesome experience!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 July 2007

My mother and I stayed in this hotel for one night (7/22/07) as a part of a two-week long guided tour through France. We were a couple of the few lucky ones who got to stay in the actual chateau instead of in the orangerie nearby.

Our room (called the Turpin room, I think) was an average sized hotel room, but with huge vaulted ceilings and lovely large windows overlooking the chateau's entrance. Parts of the room were a little bit dirty (like inside one of the closets), but overall it was well kept.

The grounds of the hotel are also lovely and there is an outdoor swimming pool on the property. Overall we felt that it was an awesome experience to be able to spend a night inside a chateau in France!

PS - There is no air conditioning in any part of this hotel, however.

“Are you open or not?!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 February 2007

We stayed at this hotel while on a property hunt. The website looked good and the location was ideal so we booked. After a long drive we were amazed to be told that the restaurant was closed that evening - and so was the bar as the only member of staff on duty in the whole hotel had not been left the keys! Needless to say the website mentioned none of this.

After reading poor reviews of the Orangerie, we had booked a room in the Chateau, which was OK. The hotel, however, reports to be 4 star, but I would expect to be able to get a meal or at least a glass of wine in a four star hotel.

Did they charge less for not being properly open? What do you think?
