We chose this Hotel as Hotels.com gave us an incredibly good rate for a 4 star hotel. It is situated 5-6 mins easy walk from Santa Eulalia Metro stop in a safe, non tourist, local neighbourhood. Metro will take you to the centre in 15 mins and connections are so easy. Metro closes at 12pm Sun -Thurs and around 2am Fri so if you are a late reveller this location may not be best for you. There were several nearby supermarkets (including a big Lidl) and a few local bars/cafes - the locals' Churos/chocolate bar opposite Opencor supermarket on Carrer Santa Eulalia served us 3 cakes and 3 lovely coffees for only 5 euros.
We chose the hotel because it was 4 stars and not in the centre of town. I have stayed in central hotels and the night noise disturbance annoys me as I am a light sleeper so this local environment seemed right. It was enjoyably, peacefully quiet at night as our room overlooked the hotel patio and local flats at the back of the hotel. Be warned however that the hotel does not have an evening restaurant which surprised me as I have never stayed in a 4 star hotel that does not have one ! There is room service till 11pm for food which had a limited menu but we never tried it. That meant last minute adaptions as we had planned to eat there or locally (very few local options however). We asked the receptionist for an inexpensive but good restaurant and he recomended a central one in Olympic Port that they were advertising. Whilst the food was very good and plentiful it was very expensive and the setting was slightly shabby and too touristy for me - 80 euros for 2 courses and wine was too expensive and I would not use his recomendation again. The hotel bar is a corner counter next to reception with bottles behind it and the bar sitting area is actually the reception area. Whilst it is clean and stylish it was small and we never saw anyone serving or drinking there. I think the receptionist doubles as the barman in the quieter eves as the hotel was very quiet guest-wise.
The rooms were very clean, stylish and well laid out. The headboard artistry and frosted bathroom doors (although they could be a privacy issue with them if you were sharing!) were a great trend design. It had a room safe and minibar and we were able to get good free wifi connections in the room - there is a free internet PC in reception also. Plenty of TV channels but only BBC News, CNN news and Disney in English !. Again I was surprised that there were no tea/coffee facilities in the room. 3 of the 4 receptionists spoke English and were helpful, However on checkout they tried to charge us16 Euros for mini bar drinks that we had not taken. I challenged them on that and they had to get Housekeeping to check who came back and said it was an error. Then we were charged 11 euros each for breakfast when the receptionist on check in had told us it was 7 Euros. Breakfast was good, plenty of meats, cheeeses, fruit, yoghurts, cereals, tost, rolls, juices, coffee, hot items etc and served in a stylish area off reception, but at 11 Euros was not such a good deal, we felt 7 Euros would have been a reasonable price. The "Fitness Suite" is a room with 1 bike, 1 jogger, one bench and 4 sets of dumbells !
I recommend a fab, stylish restaurant called Cheese Me in a small square on Carrer de L'Argenteria near Jaume 1 Metro stop. We had a great 3 course Menu del Dia in the eve for 11 Euros with great service. Almost opposite is Sagardi bar which had a great atmosphere, helpful staff and a huge variety of Pintxos.
I would use the hotel again if I got the same low rate as in general it was a stylish, clean, quiet hotel with easy connections to the centre and helpful staff. I would take breakfast elsewhere at their prices though.
