Huge, huge fan of the Mandarin Oriental Hotels (with one exception) and the new Macau property is absolutely first rate. The service was absolute superb (Francis from concierge rates a special mention) and the design of the rooms, bar and restaurant is beautiful. The pool is adequate if impersonal and not really very luxurious and certainly not up to the standard of the newly renovated MO Singapore pool - definitely not resort standard. . The pool facilities e.g. steam room etc are however first rate. Breakfast was delightful as was lunch. Great location. We cannot wait to return. Oops, only other negative is a very unimpressive foyer that could be anywhere, any place or any building but the staff are so warm who cares.

Congratulations to everyone concerned.

There's alot of competition in Macau - so many beautiful hotels and where to stay?
If I had to differentiate this hotel from the rest of the pack - it would be in one word - service.

The Mandarin staff are just amazing. Whatever this hotel chain is doing they are doing it right because I never feel as special anywhere else as I do at the Mandarin (although Ritz Carlton is a very close second - they'are amazing too - but no Ritz at Macau so beside the point for the moment). There is a lady who works in reception and she remembered my name each time she saw me, even though I only stayed for two days. Service also evidenced at the restaurant where we had breakfast. I had a chef fry too eggs for me. While I waited, he asked if it was okay for me to sit and he would bring them to my table. Finally, my brother spoiled my mum and I with a limousine transfer to ferry. When we asked the driver to drop by somewhere convenient so we could get some last min portuguese egg tarts, went entirely out of his way to Lord Stowes at Coloane (45min round trip). Everything they do, they do the extra little bit.

Apart from service - I would differentiate them on the little things. Like the fact that each time you enter the foyer - the air you breath in smells like flowers. It permeates the entire foyer. So different to the cigerette smoke and pollution from outside. Don't get me wrong, there are smoking areas in some parts of this hotel (that's just the way Macau is) however, it doesn't permeate and linger the way it does in some other places, and as such together with the flowers in the air, you literally feel like you've entered another world...

Naturally the rooms, beds, food and spa are amazing. Special thanks to Ami as she gave me the most amazing foot massage - not cheap but a bit of a splurge every now and again never hurts any lady. The gym was huge, clean and modern. The restaurant breakfast was great, not cheap but very good quality.

For those wishing to gamble and concerned by no casino, MGM is just a quick luxurious air conditioned walk away through a lovely shopping centre. Sands and Lisboa are close by. And taxis in Macau are cheaper for those who want to venture further to Venetian or Taipa.

The only down side to this hotel, is that it makes it incredibly difficult to 'adjust' back to reality and stay anywhere else again. Absolutely lovely wonderful hotel and worth every cent.

I had the pleasure to stay at the newly build Mandarin Oriental Macau - not to be confused with the "old" Mandarin Oriental now called Grand Lapa - just one week after the grand opening. Beforehand: I highly, highly recommend this hotel in Macau if you are there not just for the thrill of gambling.

Arriving at the Macau Ferry Port from Hong Kong, I was greeted by an hotel attendant who gracefully accompanied me to the (free) mini bus working as a shuttle to and from the hotel.

Check-in at the hotel itself was done efficiently in the privacy of the room. After going through this procedure, when the door finally closes behind the receptionist, you feel like in an oasis of tranquility. Forget about the bustling and crowded city of Hong Kong, forget about the excited gambling capital Macau - you immediatley feel grounded at this hotel.

The room is very spacious, roughly divided in the bedroom with a working desk and a three-piece suite near the window, a huge bathroom and a small combined walk in closet/entrance.

The bathroom, nearly as large as the bedroom itself, has a double wash basin, toilet, huge shower and a separate bath tube just below the window, allowing great sights of Macau.

Inroom-entertainment consists of a large LCD TV (and a small one in the bathroom), a fine NAD stereo, iPod stand, lots of external plugs to plug in your personal mp3 player or laptop, very large selection of music on demand and the ususal movie options.

Minibar is stocked usual, the espresso machine in every room needs to be mentioned. Lighting is great. The twice-daily housekeeping is fast and efficient.

The hotel also offers a fitness centre, a spa and a small pool. Although it is an outdoor pool, there is hardly any sun due to the high buildings around.

The restaurant is called Vida Rica and provides an excellent choice of food and beverages for breakfast and dinner. (I didn't try lunch.) The hotel bar itself is spectacular with a great selection of wines and the usual list of cocktails and snacks.

The location of the hotel is somewhat of the beaten track, so for most destinations I'd suggest a short (and cheap) taxi ride. To downtown Macau it is a short walk of just a couple of minutes.

A new opened hotel with good location just next to the MGM. The bathroom is spacious with comfortable shower head. However, the pool size is small.

With the fabalous offer, you can pay 1 for 2 nights unitl 30 Sep 2010 in weekdays.

One thing to be criticize is the AC system, it seems that the AC is still very cold although you have alter the temperature to 28 degree.
