“An excellent venue”

Lets start with the bad point - the breakfast is limited and anything hot has to be paid for as additional. The only negative comment I have.
Otherwise we had a great week at the very end of the season. The hotel we booked closed early so we where moved to the 9 Muses. The accommodation, pools etc all great. The evening meals on half board was fantastic. Magic week.

Room Tip: Ground floor gets a bit of noise from above,. scraping chairs etc

“9 Muses Excellent”

We stayed at the 9 Muses for the last two weeks of the season, all the staff at the hotel are very polite and were attentive to all our needs the layout of the actual hotel was like a small village with individual blocks of rooms, which were tastefully laid out and decorated, over the past 23 years we have travelled to many Greek islands but the 9 Muses hotel does have the nicest rooms we have ever stayed in whilst visiting Greece and yet, has kept the traditional Greek atmosphere one of the owners Mr Angelo is always helpful and will always make sure that your stay at the hotel is an enjoyable one, he is not at all intrusive he just makes sure that everything runs perfectly, so all his guests have a great stay.

Our room was at the rear of the hotel near a second pool it had a beautiful view of the mountains and the sea it was kept immaculately clean by our cleaner Forteenie who never seemed to stop working all day. We didn’t worry about having a safe as we found the staff at the hotel to be very trust worthy. Athena one of the waitresses at breakfast would always greet us with a smile and ask if we would like tea or coffee again she was so attentive to all the guests working throughout the day. Myrto on reception is so helpful and is a real asset to the hotel, she is so enthusiastic about everyone enjoying there holiday, sharing great tips on where to go and what to do a great ambassador for the hotel, although all the reception girls are very helpful too.

The variety at breakfast we thought was excellent it was a continental theme but again the best we have experienced in our years of travelling to various traditional Greek hotels, the lunch and evening food at the hotel was consistently good and a fair price.

Mr Angelo one of the owners has got this hotel so right, if we return to Skala we would certainly return to the 9 Muses were as a couple we can relax with like minded people and where guests respect there surroundings.

This hotel is Adult focused but in my opinion, I think Skala is in general, just getting into the sea can be a challenge as the sea becomes deep quite quickly, and you can easily loose your footing. Kefilonia is a lovely Island with other resorts such as Lassi catering more for families. If you’re a couple and are after a quite relaxing holiday then the 9 Muses is a good choice.

Our thanks to all the 9 Muses Staff who made our stay so welcoming and memorable.

Room Tip: Rooms at the rear of the are quieter

“Superb”

Myself and my girlfriend stayed at this hotel in mid August. Without doubt it is the best European hotel we have ever stayed in. Very clean and well presented rooms and grounds. Choice of two great pools (we preferred the smaller quiter pool). Very friendly bar area with Makis (great guy) great for a drink or two before and after a meal in town. Location is right on the beach and 5 minute walk from the main town. The hotel has a very good restaurant at the front too (recommend the beef stiffado). All in all this was the perfect holiday for us, we are in our early thirties / late twenties but Skala is suitable for all types, younger, older, families except young singles. Come to Skala and stay here at Nine muses!

“Well located hotel”

We visited in August. The hotel is opposite the beach and about 10 mins walk into the centre. When you arrive your luggage is transported to your room. I was dissapointed that our balcony was shady as shrubs were in front. The better rooms are the upper floors around the pool. The staff could not move us as they said the hotel was full.
The room was basic with a small tv and one armchair. The fridge is usefull. The rooms were cleaned very well every day and the grounds were always spotless. We never had a problem getting a poolside bed.People do leave towels out for hours and Id suggest a sin bin wherby staff put unattended towels in after one hour. There is Sky Sports on in the pool Bar and Reception. Also a free computer and lots of paperbacks to borrow.
The breakfast was the same buffet food every day, Id prefer more cooked choices. Lots of fresh fuit, danish pastries, cakes, yoghurt etc. The pool bar service is slow and we found it qiucker and cheaper to walk to our room to get refreshments. The cocktail bar was good service as was the Avra which has good lunch deals.
The hotel only gives a complimentary tray for your first night! You have to go to the shops for milk and tea/coffee and water.Take your own favourite brands.
I recommend you book a suite as you get two floors and a kitchen. I visited my neighbours opposite. We enjoyed the greek night dancing. All the staff attended. Lots of Abba music.
We visited friends in nearby hotels and I advise you do this as Hoteliers dont mind visitors.
Skala town has lots of tavernas. Jewellery bargains at Victorias. Boat trips available nearby.
Taxis are very expensive, probabaly better to hire a car as Kefalonia is small and easy to get around. Best point about Nine Muses, Lots of FERAL KITTENS IN THE GROUNDS!

Room Tip: These are 2 storey blocks and the upper rooms have better views. But if you want shade ask for a low...

“Our first visit to Kefalonia”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 October 2011

We booked through First Choice HOlidays and were given the option to upgrade to a suite for a very reasonable cost. I e mailed ahead and also requested a sea view... which we received. Our room was lovely. The upstairs bathroom had a jaccuzzi bath, with lots of hot water, toiletries, fluffy towelling robes etc. There was also a nice modern shower and wc on the ground fllor. We had balconies to both floors and a small kitchen area. The maid service was fantastic and the room spotless and comfortable. We stayed late Setember till mid October, so just opened the shutters and there was a nice breeze with excellent fine mesh in case of mossies! We had no problems with mossies at all and were delighted with our room. We agree with the comments regarding the high cost of the safe in our room, 18 euro a week to borrow a key is extortinate

We stayed on a bed and breakfast basis and the breakfast was fine, if a little repetitive. We had a couple of lunches at the hotel and 1 dinner. We found the portions way too large and rather off putting. Less is sometimes more! ( The staff at the hotel were very courteous, helpful and welcoming and the vista from the dining area, particularly at breakfast was beautiful)

The main pool area was nice but we went low season and at the beginning there was the beach towel game.. which we really were not happy with. Some guests seemed to think that they must have the same sunbed each day and would stake claim as soon as it was 9 a.m!

The beach was quite stony and dipped down dramatically, which was disappointing. On the other hand the speed boat (always coming exactly on time) was right on our beach and we visited Katelios and Poros which were both very pretty. We also went on Captain Vangelis's trip to Fiscardo. Again the ship comes right to the beach by the hotel. This was a great day out and the trips can be booked just a very short walk from the front of the hotel to your left. We wanted to do other trips but it was end of season and we did encounter some rainy days.

The Mithos Beach Bar was a lovely place to spend the day, about a 15 minute walk from the Nine Muses. They serve wonderful cocktails too! Our favourite restaurants were the Manor House (Next door to Sally's Bar), the Aquarius and the Flamingo. The food in all three was really delicious, though sadly 2 of them had closed before we left as it was end of season.

To sum up our fortnight, we would certainly recommend the Nine Muses for its superb location. The walk to Skala was short and it was a very friendly town with an abundance of nice tavernas and little shops The ease of boat trips from our hotel was also a great bonus. I think a better time to go would probably be earlier in September, as by the time we left a lot of places had already closed.
