“Excellent food, location without crowds, 3Km walk to facilities”

The staff were very helpful, the food was magnificent, some of the best in any hotel I have visited. The location was great for relaxing out of the crowds but it was 3Km from the shops. It took about 35 minutes to walk in but there was a new pavement, courtesy of 1 million euros EU money. The taxi was 5 euros which was the minimum fare. There was a very good Greek restaurant no more than ten minutes walk, Opos Palia, with Greek food not international cuisine.
There were a few little bays close to the hotel with pebble beaches but 20 minutes away was the start of a four mile sandy beach fronting the village. Petrol was very expensive, about £1.55 per litre and cars were £50 per day hire !!!

I like skala have visited here several times over the years, Was quite impressed with our accomodation for what i paid and it had a nice balcony with a great view.Lovely buffet breakfast to start off the day.
Not too close to the nearest town but that was'nt a problem as we had a car so would recommend having one, especially to take in the fantastic scenery of the island as well. The hotel is located in a quiet resort and is very relaxing. Will visit this lovely part again and might consider staying at port skala hotel as well as it was quite sufficient for our needs.

“Lovely hotel but...”

I've got to say the hotel was nice however a few important points to note:

The hotel is not 4 star as advertised, much more like 3 star
The porter on arrival was very moody and often ignored us as we walked past during our stay
Alcohol is extremely expensive. A bottle of budweiser was 5 euros, compared to 1.75 euros at the local shop
Breakfast doesnt cater for british tourists
Evening meal isn't worth 15 euros
The hotel is on the outskirts of the town and a bit of a walk (40 mins at least)!
The beds in the room are quite uncomfortable

Overall we were pleased and the receptionist and restaurant staff were very nice and friendly.

Well run hotel with good restauarant serving breakfast and evening meals which were lovely, great pool and play areas for the children, our room was cleaned everyday and we had clean sheets and towels every day.The views from every room were great overlooking the sea,the staff were extremely friendly at all times, there was a great courtesy bus to and from Scala. If you were going to do any excursions then use Avalon travel in the town of Scala,up by the main square on the corner, great company to use with lovely staff and guides and driver. We had a brilliant holiday there and would certainly go back there again.

“Ideal for a quiet, relaxed holiday away from hustle and bustle.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 August 2010

Having married at the end of July and no honeymoon booked, my husband and I were looking for a late deal, not costing the earth offering us a peaceful and relaxed week away to spend time together.
Booking a week at the Port Skala Hotel meant we got exactly that. Quite along transfer time from the airport but on return we booked a taxi making the journey 45 mins instead of nearly 2 hours. Our room was clean and certainly furnished enough for our needs. The promise of satellite tv in each room was abit misleading as only 2 channels were in English. But hey, we were on honeymoon! Our room was cleaned daily if we wished.
No mention in the brochure of the amount of steps within the complex as it is built into the hill - not a problem for us but may be an issue for less mobile or families with young children.
Food was perfectly adequate although we would have loved to see orange juice at breakfast and bacon and eggs! The evening buffet was always plentiful and I think even the plainest/ safest of eaters would not have gone hungry!
Not a huge amount of sunbeds around the pool area but this said, we never had a problem getting one.
'Mini market' in the hotel again is abit misleading - very small room selling very few items. Not really my idea of a mini market - nearest shop is about a 25/30 minute walk away. Not ideal at night as the roads aren't well lit but too hot in the day.
Staff very friendly and genuinely seemed to want to help. Very bad mobile phone signal along the road the hotel is on (which is quite busy) so limited contact with home.A small charge to use the internet at the hotel helped with this problem.
Courtesy 'bus' into Skala is a people mover only seating 9 including the driver. We did make free use of this for a day trip to Skala but I would definitely suggest hiring a car if you are staying here to enable you to get about and see the island.
All in all we had the peaceful, relaxing week to ourselves that we had hoped for. I think to improve this hotel they could offer some evening entetainment after dinner a couple of nights a week as once dinner is over, there really is nothing to do. Perfect if you are on your honeymoon!!
