Porto skala hotel is an amazing little hotel with it's own bungalow/apartments with the most picteresque views from the balcony facing out to the stunning Ionian sea.
The food is wonderful, traditional and well-cooked. The Chef Maria was there every night telling us what she had cooked with a proud smile on her face. The breakfast was quite continental, cereals, toast, cooked breakfast etc but it also had some Greek delicasies like loukmathes, Greek biscuits and Batiha (water melon).
The staff were so friendly, we took the wrong plugs and they let us borrow theirs, no charge. Most places would have made you go out and purchase them. They do a fair euro exchange and always say hello, good morning.
On the way to Skala (about 3km/30min walk away) you have to stop at Sugaro to have a cake! Oh my...the pastries were just to die for. Then walk a little further in and have lunch at Paspolis, the souvlaki is amazing and the service is fantastic. For a night out try Symposium, they have a singer playing the piano and a romantic atmosphere with reasonably priced food and drinks, over looking skala beach. Taxis back to the hotel were 5 euros if you can't be bothered to walk back and dodge the crickets!
For a day trip book Captain Kostis and visit Poros, it's lovely little town with nice views. Also another good day trip to do is to visit Ithaki and it's capital Vathi for 35 euros each.
Kefalonia is so romantic and seductive, the 40 degree weather is covered by a beautiful breeze and sea has crystal clear waters.
