“Absolutley Breathtaking and amazing”

Porto skala hotel is an amazing little hotel with it's own bungalow/apartments with the most picteresque views from the balcony facing out to the stunning Ionian sea.

The food is wonderful, traditional and well-cooked. The Chef Maria was there every night telling us what she had cooked with a proud smile on her face. The breakfast was quite continental, cereals, toast, cooked breakfast etc but it also had some Greek delicasies like loukmathes, Greek biscuits and Batiha (water melon).

The staff were so friendly, we took the wrong plugs and they let us borrow theirs, no charge. Most places would have made you go out and purchase them. They do a fair euro exchange and always say hello, good morning.

On the way to Skala (about 3km/30min walk away) you have to stop at Sugaro to have a cake! Oh my...the pastries were just to die for. Then walk a little further in and have lunch at Paspolis, the souvlaki is amazing and the service is fantastic. For a night out try Symposium, they have a singer playing the piano and a romantic atmosphere with reasonably priced food and drinks, over looking skala beach. Taxis back to the hotel were 5 euros if you can't be bothered to walk back and dodge the crickets!

For a day trip book Captain Kostis and visit Poros, it's lovely little town with nice views. Also another good day trip to do is to visit Ithaki and it's capital Vathi for 35 euros each.

Kefalonia is so romantic and seductive, the 40 degree weather is covered by a beautiful breeze and sea has crystal clear waters.

Room Tip: All rooms have amazing sea views!

“Excellent food, location without crowds, 3Km walk to facilities”

The staff were very helpful, the food was magnificent, some of the best in any hotel I have visited. The location was great for relaxing out of the crowds but it was 3Km from the shops. It took about 35 minutes to walk in but there was a new pavement, courtesy of 1 million euros EU money. The taxi was 5 euros which was the minimum fare. There was a very good Greek restaurant no more than ten minutes walk, Opos Palia, with Greek food not international cuisine.
There were a few little bays close to the hotel with pebble beaches but 20 minutes away was the start of a four mile sandy beach fronting the village. Petrol was very expensive, about £1.55 per litre and cars were £50 per day hire !!!

I like skala have visited here several times over the years, Was quite impressed with our accomodation for what i paid and it had a nice balcony with a great view.Lovely buffet breakfast to start off the day.
Not too close to the nearest town but that was'nt a problem as we had a car so would recommend having one, especially to take in the fantastic scenery of the island as well. The hotel is located in a quiet resort and is very relaxing. Will visit this lovely part again and might consider staying at port skala hotel as well as it was quite sufficient for our needs.

“Lovely hotel but...”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 September 2010

I've got to say the hotel was nice however a few important points to note:

The hotel is not 4 star as advertised, much more like 3 star
The porter on arrival was very moody and often ignored us as we walked past during our stay
Alcohol is extremely expensive. A bottle of budweiser was 5 euros, compared to 1.75 euros at the local shop
Breakfast doesnt cater for british tourists
Evening meal isn't worth 15 euros
The hotel is on the outskirts of the town and a bit of a walk (40 mins at least)!
The beds in the room are quite uncomfortable

Overall we were pleased and the receptionist and restaurant staff were very nice and friendly.
