“Best Meal of Trip to Italy”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 January 2011

My husband and I visited in September and found that we did not have time to take the ferry to Bellagio so chose a smaller village. We happened to chose Villa Belvedere for lunch on the terrace. The meal (baked cannelloni) was the best meal we had in Italy! The view was also stunning from the terrace. The setting could not have been more perfect. Next time we will stay at the hotel to have more time to enjoy it.

“Unbelievably BAD treatment”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 October 2010

First, let me say that I have been coming to this small hotel and sending friends for over 10 years .- BUT NEVER AGAIN.
Today, my husband and I arrived, checked in and were shown to our room (19), then went for a walk. Upon our return approx. 1 hour later, we were informed that a mistake had been made, they had moved our belongings to room 11 and given 19 to "frequent clients who insisted that they MUST have room 19 (which does have a lovely view), So, without contacting me (the hotel had my phone number) they moved us down one floor to a room with a view blocked by a tree that they insisted was the same view.
I asked to speak to the manager - a young woman who identified herself as the owner indicated it was a "mistake" in that the other guests were supposed to have room 19 - I pointed out that the reservation book indicated we had 19, she said the "other owner" who made the reservation must have made a mistake when she wrote it, perhaps because it was late in the season. She further stated that the other client had made their reservation "long ago" - so had I. My husband and I were furious at this treatment. There was no mention of compensation of any sort, just "too bad, you must move".
Obviously something has gone very wrong with this little hotel - I recall readfing that either the father or mother (original owners) had passed away - perhaps this is what explains the miserable treatment we received. No real apology, just "you must move so the other people can have the room they want".
Needless to say, I will NEVER return to this hotel, nor will I send anyone here. Too bad it has deteriorated so.

“A charming hotel from which to enjoy the delights of Lake Como”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 September 2010

The key feature of this hotel for us was its choice position right on the lake with only its only small private terrace between it and the water. Our first floor corner room had a large window on the front with a stunning view over the lake to the mountains opposite and an equally large side window giving a different view down the lake and allowing lots of light into our room (but the shutters were adequate for blocking the light if required). The bed was huge and very comfortable, the ceilings were high and the room was spacious.

The staff were attentive and helpful and the bar and lounge were well furnished although we rarely used them as we preferred to be outside. We spent nearly all our time on the Terrace. Breakfast there was wonderful, looking out across the lake, as were pre-dinner drinks watching the sun set and then dinner in the evening. The food was excellent and all in all, I'd recommend this hotel with great confidence.

“Best view in the world. Some of the smallest, least imaginative bedrooms to be found anywhere”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 September 2010

I really wanted to love this hotel. The exterior of the villa is beautiful and the veranda is very special. Obviously the views are magnificent. The main sitting area is attractive in the way your Italian Grandmother's would be. Not quite antique furniture but certainly not new either--which meant that it was cozy to look at but not very comfortable.

The real downside to the hotel is the bedrooms and bathrooms. The bedrooms are small by any standard and very cheaply furnished. My bed felt like a cot. There was one small mattress that was too cheap to be comfortable. My pillow was hard and uncomfortable. The carpeting was the kind you would find in a 1950s yard foreman's office. To put some stats to it, my bedroom was 7' x 18' or 126 sq ft. That is a double bedroom. The bathroom was so small that if I turned on the shower while using the toilet I could accomplish both acts at the same time. Notwithstanding, the views out the windows are some of the best any hotel could offer.

As to service, the young lady (I believe the daughter of the owner) is an utter delight. She is always pleasant and helpful. Her mother was very frowny and never said one pleasant thing while we were there. The breakfast lady was also a bit of a downer. The rest of the staff were very kind and a bit shy.

The breakfast is a delight on that beautiful veranda. The fare is continental. There were always a delicious homemade cake, good selection of yogurts and delicious cheese. There were no eggs, bacon, sausages, etc. Our dinner was quite good but certainly there were far better places to have dinner--for example Al Veluu, Valverde, Locanda dell' Isola Comacina, Osteria La Tana dei Pescatori.

Argegno is a beautiful, little village with fun restaurants, pizzerias, bars, etc. It seems to be a gathering point of locals and tourists alike. Therefore, I loved the location of this hotel and its setting.

I think your decision to stay here is an easy one. If you can content yourself with a stunning view, great veranda and authentic villa and would not be bothered by tiny, no-better-than-dorm-room bedrooms then I think you would be happy here. Without a view of the lake, the bedrooms would drive me to suicide.

“Wonderful suited directly at lago di Como”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 August 2010

Traditionel italian villa, wonderful suituated directly at Lago di Como with own private beach and fanstatic lake view terasse. We have been there several times and it was always just wonderful. The rooms are furnished individually and are following traditional italian style. You will love to enjoy your breakfast buffet, sitting on the sunny terazze and experiencing the magic of the morning hour panorama at Lago di Como - there is no better way to leave everything behind you.
The restaurant is offering good italien diner, served in several courses. Next to the hotel you will have the station for the lake taxi and ferries to bring you to Bellagio, Como, etc.
