Having been to Sicily last year I was unsure about returning, but my husband , who is a keen golfer thought that staying at etna golf resort would not be as hectic as Taomina. He was so right. The resort is out of the main touristy area of Taomina but is only a half an hour drive.
The hotel receptionists give every one a warm and proffesional welcome, their English is very good and nothing is too much trouble.
The rooms are very clean and well maintained, the views are a little disappointing some do give a view of Etna and we also had a view of a vineyard, although there was a development of houses being built, but they are a way off and I don't think will spoil the peace and quiet.
We ate in the restaurant a few times and was very surprised how nice the food was, having eaten in hotels in Italy before the food is usually bland, not here. The food is well presented, hot and varied. The maitre'd will translate anything you are unsure of, as his English is excellent. At breakfast there is a large selection of meats, croissants, pastries and warm food. The croissants were fresh and very nice.
If you don't want to eat in the hotel there are restauants and pizzerias dotted around the villages, they are very reasonably priced, much cheaper than Taomina.
We used the swimming pool, it is the coldest pool I have been in, but when the tempretures top 37 degrees it is refreshing. The pool is quite deep and in my opinion not suitable for very young children. The pool attendant worked tirelessly to keep the pool immaculate. There are top quality pool towels available. If there are no sun beds the pool attendant magically will find you one. He does not speak English, so we had great fun practising our Italian.
There is food available round the pool, it is not an extensive menu but adequate, we had delicious toasted sandwiches.
There is an amazing bar lady whose English is great, she is so helpful and works very hard to make sure you feel welcome.
This hotel is a gem hidden away abit off the beaten track , but well worth the effort, you discover the real Sicily.
