“Only go there if you are rich and want to play Golf !!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 October 2011

Spent 4 nights there last week with a large group ... very deceiving really as the Hotel is very grand and room quality was very good in a lovely setting on the slopes of Etna ... we were lucky enough to have a window looking up to Etna ... however that was it as the food was very average and not at all 'typical of the area' ... we were on some of the most fertile soil on the planet and they served up mashed potato and green beans !! ... very disorganised too ... food was not coming out table by table ... by the time some people had received their meals the others on the table had finished !! ... had to constantly ask for butter etc as tables not laid properly and when we did ask it felt like we were inconveniencing them !!... they also flatly refused to let us have jugs of water on the tables at Dinner ... we had to pay for bottled water only ... the attitute of staff was not good at all ... went to breakfast at 9 am one morning (was available untill 10 ) and there was no Bacon ... I asked for some more to be told that it had finished and if I wanted any then I had to pay for it !! ... as we were not playing Golf or spending lots of money we really felt we were being treated like second class citizens ... very isolated too ... nowhere close enough to stroll too ... such a shame as we had such great time in the two Hotels we stayed in previously on the trip in Italy ... it really made you feel that all Sicilians behaved in this way and I am sure it is not the case at all ...

Room Tip: There were some rooms on the 1st floor that had balconies where you couls see Etna

“Excellent hotel to play golf”

Excellent place to play golf, but out of the way for other reasons. The pool is in the wrong place and there is no service at the pool.

“Very odd experience”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 July 2011

Our experience at this hotel was surreal! We had booked the junior suite but when we saw the room we were very disappointed as there was no outside area and felt very enclosed. Considering this place is in the middle of nowhere we would have gone stir crazy if we had had to sit in that room all the time! As a result we asked to see alternative rooms and were shown the suite and an ordinary room. The ordinary room was right next door to the suite and identical apart from the lack of a small sitting room so we opted to move to the ordinary room, despite having paid for the junior suite. Other travelers have remarked about the hotel not being busy and we found this the case too. Unfortunately this was somewhat eerie as there was just no noise at all! We ate there one night and were the only people in the restaurant later being joined by two other couples. There was no music playing and it was a huge room with wall length mirrors which just made you feel very lonely and uncomfortable! The food was bad too so we ended up eating out for lunch the next day and buying rolls and cheese from the supermarket to eat on our patio in the evening! Also the restaurant was overrun with ants crawling all over the floor around our table - most off putting. The hotel is literally in the middle of nowhere. You cannot walk to anywhere for something to eat or drink and given the poor standard of food in the hotel this was a major weakness which has led to our overall rating of 2.

Room Tip: Dont book the suites they are a waste of money

Obviosuly we have full respect for everyone's opinion, but there are some things that we would like to point out about this review.
These guests booked a Junior Suite in a golf hotel for 2 nights.
Our Junior Suites have a spacious sitting room on the ground floor and a bedroom/loft connected with stairs. They all have a window overlooking the golf course or the park. They have never asked in their booking for a terrace which we have in 80% of our rooms but in no Junior Suites.
We have 6 De Luxe Rooms and 9 Suites and they all have sitting room and terrace, but at time of booking they not asked for a terrace.
When they have asked for a room with a Terrace upon their arrival we offered a Suite with 2 rooms and a spacious terrace on the green at a supplement of € 50,00 per night instead of € 70,00 or a standard room with a view on hole 18 and a terrace.
Their gastronomic experience in our hotel is limited to one meal where they ordered 2 steaks.
They have not complained with our staff , so they did non allow to offer an alternative.
I wonder how they can destroy and judge a big menu with dozens of choices of different courses with this ! ! !
We never have ants in the restaurant, however because we are in the country, it might occasionally occur that leaving a window open some can walk in, but this would be limeted only to places close to windows.
They complain about the location, but we are a golf hotel , we can not be in Manhattan !
They also complain about the number of guest there were aorund during they stay ! We are a classic hotel with spa and golf course and we fullfill all promise we do to our clients, we are not a hotel club with entertainment. So this kind of complain is not accetable.
They probably have choosen the wrong tyoe of hotel for their holiday. We have all satisfied guest who come back 2/3 times per year for enjoying golf, spa and relax.
Finally, I would like to ask how this review is classified with 2 star when the value is 3 star,
sleep quality 4 star, cleanliness 3 star, service 3 star.

“Very poor Food for a 4/5 star horel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 May 2011

The hotel served up Potatoe Crochets (2) and frozen vegetables with a cremated Rack of Lamb, we spent 4 nights there and I would not serve this type of food top my grandchildren who are 8 and 4 years old.
The service of the staff was not very organised although they did their best, the blame was from the kitchen.

“Beautiful building, lovely views ..... shame about food & service”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 October 2010

This is a beautiful hotel in quiet surroundings adjacent to its own golf course, with a vineyard to the rear and both an outdoor pool (with views towards Etna) and indoor spa area. "Perfect", you might think. but unfortunately the quality of the food at dinner and the level of service lets the hotel down. Admittedly, we were on a package holiday and so did not sample food served to independent travellers which may have been better, but it is very apparent the staff need further training. On the plus side, the breakfast buffet was excellent.

Also, you should be aware that it is quite a "trek" from the coastal autostrada to the hotel - a long and bendy road which takes in a couple of local towns, not always the easiest to get through at busy times. The trip from the coast will take between 30-40 mins.
