“you can get 1 star room in this hotel”

my boyfriend and i stayed there in january 2012 for 11 days, we booked and paid for room in advance and were sure we made a nice choice of 4 star hotel. to our deep disappointment we got one star room in four star hotel. Three days we couldn't have bath (it was a dirty old bath with spots covered by oil paint to cover errosion), toilet was leaking, the room itself was dark; We booked a room with a double bed, instead we got two single beds moved together, not nice if you are used to cuddle your beloved when sleep, the mattresses and pillows were uncomfortable, every morning before 9am a crazy girl without ceremonies knocked the door to check whether a room bar full or not; on 4th day after meeting a top hotel manager they changed the room saying that they have refurbished rooms, it improved our mood (though this hotel dont have double beds at all, only moved together single ones, at least the beds were new and mattresses more comfortable than in old rooms). Receptionists were not attentive to customers at all: only after 9 days staying there we learnt that there were djakuzi, that is far from swimming pool in a hotel building on C level; we never got help and discount booking hotel though again in their broshures it was offered as well as discount in their sister's hotel restaurant . so we should have read all small broshures in the room on the first day of arrival..Are you ready to read them all on the first day? the positive thing was only breakfast, it was nice patio and good chef who cooked for you fresh meal, quite nice waiters who helped you to find a table and served coffe or tea..so really big thanks to them.

Room Tip: above i gave a mark to the first room they gave us and where we lived 4 days out of 11. be sure what...

Thank you for your comment about your stay with us. A shame you made this experience and did not enjoy your holiday 100%. We are glad that you talked to our manager and that you did change the room. The hotel offers different room categories. The best double room categroy would be a double room pool side superior, these are the refurbished rooms. If we know that our guests prefer a double bed, we do push two single beds together, but we can put an extra mattress on top so that it seems a double bed. So do not hesitate to contact us, we always try to solve the problems of our guests.

Kind regards.

We went already for the fith time to this nice hotel, us intention was to go a few weeks in september, but the same arrangement as before was not available. Due to a very good colaboration with Mss. M. Hendrichx ( staff of hotel ) its was possible to go in december for 10 days. This was the first time that we go in december and I was very surprised about the good weather during that period. We have enough reasons to go back, a very good location of the hotel, very close to the shops, and a market twice a week, 200 metres from the beach, rooms cleaned daily and at time if you ask it, very good services of everybody from staff to cleaners, and don't forget the two pleasant joking boys of the swimming pool, Juan and Domingo. We are looking for us next holiday in this hotel into a few months.
Congratulations to the whole Guanahani team.

Room Tip: higher rooms are larger and sunny, and have less A/C unit noise. For myself rooms 401 to 406 are the...

“Impressed”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 January 2012

As a traveller that aims for good 4 star or affordable 5 star hotels this is a very good Tenerife hotel at a reasonable price. This was our third winter break in Tenerife and best to date. We stayed Christmas week and whilst there are some areas for improvement, all-in-all you can't go wrong staying here.

To comment on some areas of criticism in earlier reviews:

There were always sun loungers available even when the hotel was full.

Food was always good, replenished and hot. Servers were always friendly (which isn't always the case in other Tenerife hotels we have stayed at). We weren't keen on the desserts as whilst they looked good many seemed to consist of a lot of spray can cream and therefore not much flavour. Food was generally of a good quality and you could always get served at the cook's hot plate without much or any waiting time. I would say that hot vegetables weren't plentiful however.

Pool was quiet and well maintained if a little chilly.

Jacuzzi on top floor was free to use but too cold to be worth while hence always empty.

We had an unrefurbished room which was a little old and tired looking compared with the nice fresh room and didn't have a proper shower. Also it faced the road so we could hear coaches going round the roundabout but didnt bother us too much. Due to this and the lack of sun on the balcony we hardly set foot on the balcony - but the pool area sufficed.

We had a "promo-room" which I assumed meant that we would get a older room so we didnt push for the room to be changed - an area for improvement would be for the hotel to advise guest when taking a promo room that it means getting a older room (if that's the case).

The entertainment was mixed. Some acts were very good, some were quite good but the group that sang on many nights (house band?) appeared to send people to bed or round the bend. The singing was quite good but the electronic organ was terrible and very very dated - even the elderly didnt seem to like it yet I assumed it was aimed at the older visitors (it is like something out of Peter Kay but isn't funny for long!). However, the lady that sang on christmas day was absolutely fantastic, singing modern songs, opera etc flawlessly - I could have listened to her for hours! Other acts were of a good standard (acrobats, flamenco, traditional).

Location of the hotel was good, maybe 150 -200 yards from the beach, down a hill. If you turn right at the end of the road (when on the seafront) you will find lovely scenery, nice surrounding etc. If you turn left it takes you into the more commercial areas where you are more likely to see street peddlers and shops selling "tat". I would note that this applies to beer prices too i.e head in direction of Playa Las Americas and beer drops to 1 euro a pint, the other way (towards Del Duque and Caleta) is 3 euro.

Free internet access in the hotel and no waiting for a PC (we used one of the 2 PCs every other day).

We found soft drinks and beer prices a little expensive for Tenerife (not compared with UK hotels), although a bottle of reasonable wine at 15 euros was quite good and cocktails weren't too expensive.

Front desk staff were friendly and approachable and helped with all issues including:

We weren't happy with twin beds (albeit I was expecting 2 beds pushed together) but after one bad night I asked for a double mattress which I was told they could offer a double sheet instead. However, to our pleasure when we got to the room it had a double mattress over the 2 beds so we were very pleased!

We asked for a late check-out. Our room was booked but we were given another room to wash up in without charge which we were happy about.

We asked about churches for christmas day and they looked into this for us.

This is the first Tenerife hotel that I would return to (the others we stayed at were all highly rated in Tripadviser too).

Room Tip: Go for pool view rooms

Thank you very much for your detailed comment about your stay with us and for your kind words about our hotel, our staff and our services. We always give our best to make the stay of our clients as enjoyable as possible and are happy to read that we could reach your expectations.
Booking a "promo room" indicates that you are booking a room in the lowest price category, which in our case are our standard rooms that are street facing rooms. If you are looking for a more modern room, you should book a double room pool side superior.
If you ever want to stay with us again, please do not hesitate to contact us regarding a room wish you may have. It would be a pleasure welcoming you again in our hotel in the future.

Kind regards.

My husband and i had a one week stay just before christmas and the only negative comment i would pass is that our original suite did not get the winter sun.My husband asked if we could be moved and no sooner said than done we were in the most fantastic location you could wish for The staff, bar none, were the nicest, friendliest bunch you could wish for, and as the hotel is a lot smaller than its sister hotel across the road, jardin de nivaria, everyone soon gets to know you.We will definately be returning to this hotel!

Room Tip: Suites 501 502 and 503 get good all round sun, are quiet and have good views

“Save your money”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 December 2011

The hotel is in a great location for access to adeje, del duque and a nice walk to either las americas or la caleta. The hotel staff are very helpful and keep the place clean and tidy. The food is very good although seemed to be aimed at german guests other than the obvious spanish dishes. Look out for the rooftop sun terrace which is very under utilised and a great peaceful spot. The negatives are the standard rooms which are dated so ask for poolside/superior (we asked for an upgrade after first day). The outside dining area is lovely but plagued by smokers so beware if you don't partake. Great holiday but expensive for what it offers. Save a few pounds and opt for the Adeje Gran up the road.

Room Tip: Ask for poolside superior.

Thank you very much for your words about your stay at our Hotel Colón Guanahaní. We are glad to read that you had a good stay with us.
Our hotel is one of the smallest hotels in the south of Tenerife, which makes it a bit special. We only have 151 rooms and all our repeater guests love us because we are so familiar. Something you do not find very often in other hotels and which we are very proud of. In many other hotels guests are just a number, not in our hotels though.
It would be a pleasure welcoming you again in the future and we would happily receive an email or fax from you regarding an upcoming stay with us.

We remain at your entire disposal.

Kind regards.
